I just signed up for free upgrade (new receiver and dish at no charge), first 4 months of hi-def programming free, $9.99 per month after that with 2 year committment, and 4 months of free premium movie channels. That's all I could con out of them ;)

Thanks for the tip original poster. I love my Cowboy fans.

I wanted to let you guys know that if you want to get in on some good stuff from Directv nows the chance to do it...

I saw this link on KFFL

http://www.kffl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173978

I called Directv today and just mentioned that I got an awesome deal from Dish Network and didnt want to leave Directv and the offers came puoring in

Got Superfan $99 value free with the Sunday Ticket.
Got 6 months free of Showtime and Starz
Got free new DVR that is going to be installed tomorrow at no cost at all
Also got my monthly billed reduced from $64.98 to $56.48 for the next 123 months.

If you call the main customer service line you wont get anywhere. Call the customer retention line at 1-800-824-9081

Awesome. I mostly lurk here a few times a day and I am so glad I read this post. I just moved and they planted my new DVR that I paid for and did the whole hook up thing. I thought that they had me over a barrel.

I talked to the guy for about an hour and he really worked for me. He got off the phone and checked with some people and the best he could give me was a new $400 HD DVR and credit me for the one that I just bought ($200). He did give me the option of any of these:

Superfan $99 value free with the Sunday Ticket
Got 6 months free of Showtime and Starz
Any DVR they had for free
Reduce my monthly billed
Spread the NFL package payments over 7 months

He insisted that was all they could do for me. I figured that just like the draft I should go with the value pick and take the HDDVR.

Thank you for this post.

Awesome...spread my NFL ticket payments over 7 months. Free Superfan. Free HBO for 6 months.

I just acted dumb about HD and said I bought an HD receiver 6 months ago but just got the TV this month. I said all the free HD programming I got free upfront I never used because I didn't have an HDTV. Worked like a champ.

Thanks again...

I don't have NFL Sunday Ticket because Cowboys games are always shown in El Paso, but here is what they gave me when I called -

Reduced my total choice plus by $5 a month for a year.
Gave me 3 months of HD service for free, actually reduced it by $5 for 6 months since I already have the HD service and it wouldn't allow him to give me the 3 months free.
6 months of Showtime free
6 months of HBO @ $2 a month.

Thanks for the info!

Remember Guys, if anyone has Verizon as a telephone service, you can go through them on DirecTV and save an extra $6 a month. It's also combined with your phone bill so dyou don't have to worry about seperate bills.

I handled it all through Verizon. Cool thing is, I called DTV for the retention offers and they gave them to me regardless of the fact that I was saving money by going through Verizon to begin with.

Wow, I'm really shocked this worked. I have been putting it off.

I got my NFL Ticket spread out into 7 payments
Free SuperFan
Free HD+DVR system being installed July 3rd
$10 off my monthly bill
They are replacing the older receivers I have on my other 2 TV's
on top of all that I'm getting all the movie channels free for the next 6 months

jaxxons, thanks for the tip, much appreciated.
I got Superfan free for 2006, the new HD-DVR recvr (Mpeg 4), installed next week, and Showtime/Starz free for 6 months, Sunday Ticket spread out over 7 Mo. They offered a second receiver hook up free, but I declined (my wife would divorce me if we did that).
For some reason, I think Customer Retention operators look at your zip code before authorizing perqs and benefits they award. I guess we're all not the same, programming wise.
I may just have to call up again!

I have it. It is unbelievable the clarity. Of course, you must have an HD TV. There are only about seven or ten HD channels right now, but they said they are going to send up another satellite this summer, and that will increase.

One downside, the local channels are not HD, at least in my area. The local stations (they must sign off) shot down my waiver request to obtain Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS out of NY or LA in HD. That means, any games on local channels, that will be blacked out on the Ticket, will not be in HD. What that means, is if you live in the Cowboys Television market, you may not be able to see the Cowboys in HD.

I just upgraded my dish to a 5 LNB 1 meter dish, because the Tampa Bay area is broadcasting local channels in HD. I upgraded my receiver also, but it cost a hundred bucks. But, it is worth it over my last one, which was 5 years old.

They told me the Mpeg 4 HD DVR will not be ready until the fall, so I'm forced to buy a antenna to get my local channels in HD. Also, when I called and mentioned some other people were getting these offers and it was kind of making me reconsider signing back up with them, they didn't offer a thing. Completely shut down, not even the 7 month thing for Sunday Ticket. I have just had bad luck with Directv the last few years.

All they tell me is they don't have any promotions for the free HD DVR, and don't know how anyone could get one. Doesn't matter if I bring up the fact that Dish Network's HD DVR starts at 199, not 399, or that dish has more HD programming for less $. Maybe it's a texas thing.

Dude I'm in atlanta and at first she told me the same thing then asked if I'd be willing to pay for the install of 19 for the HD DVR and I said yes so she was able to do it....

Two quick questions:

1. What's the Superfan package?

2. I'm thinking about dropping my premium channels. Don't really need the movie channels - keeps my bill too high.
But I do want to re-subscribe for the Sunday Ticket. So should I call the retention line to cancel my premium channels, hoping they'll give me a freebie on that one too even as they give me the Sunday Ticket package?

I think I'll try this weekend.

Thanks for the response.
