It's not about "sticking up" for anyone, it's about getting the facts straight. If Spears had jumped on Ellis when Bulger was on the ground but somehow got credit for half a sack (a.k.a., a Merroidman special), I would have said so.

He was already going to the ground without aid fom spears.

Every single Ellis play

Greg Ellis is listed as an OLB, but he was in a three-point stance every time he was on the field against the Rams. That's because he was used solely in the Cowboys' nickel package.

"I wanted more," Ellis said after the game, "but I'm glad Wade stuck to the plan."

Ellis managed to make a major impact despite participating in a grand total of 14 plays -- 10 third downs, two second-and-longs, a first-and-goal and a second-and-goal.

The results weren't pretty for the Rams with Ellis, who had 1.5 sacks and two hurries, lined up at left defensive end. Those 14 plays netted 29 yards and a turnover. Follow the jump for the Ellis play-by-play:

Third-and-7 -- Quick slant off three-step drop to Torry Holt for 11 yards; Ellis blocked by TE and RB.
Third-and-19 -- Incomplete pass; good pressure by Ellis against single block by RT.
Third-and-15 -- Draw to Travis Minor for loss of 1 (tackle by DeMarcus Ware); Ellis blocked by RT.
Third-and-8 -- Incomplete pass; Ellis blocked by RT.
Second-and-10 -- Personal foul facemask committed by LT Alex Barron vs. DeMarcus Ware, who blew by Barron in a 1-on-1 matchup; Ellis blocked by TE and RB.
Third-and-23 -- Quick slant off three-step drop to Isaac Bruce for 24 yards; Ellis blocked by RT.
Third-and-5 -- Incomplete pass; Ellis slants inside to create room for blitzing CB Nate Jones, who hits QB Marc Bulger.
Third-and-8 -- Sack by Ellis for -7 yards; beat RT with speed rush and hand chop. Ware shifted to ROLB before snap and got good pressure after beating RB block.
Third-and-10 -- Incomplete; Ellis blocked by TE and RB.
First-and-goal from 7 -- Sack by Ellis and Marcus Spears for -3 yards; Ellis bull-rushed TE.
Second-and-goal from 10 -- Ken Hamlin interception; Ellis dropped pass into coverage in middle of the field.
Second-and-11 -- Hook off three-step drop to Holt for 8 yards; Ellis doubled by RT and RG.
Third-and-7 -- Quick slant off three-step drop to Holt for 12 yards; Ellis cut by RB.
Third-and-7 -- Incomplete; Ellis blocked by RT.

Now that kids is an example of breaking down film. Unlikely that TM took this from a TV Broadcast. Take some notes on this lesson - all of you quasi-journalistic wannabes.

You're kidding right?

That is exactly the type of combination of TV broadcast and NFL.com gamecenter.

Not to knock McMahon's effort, but there are guys on here, who have done it longer and much better. You don't need a journalism degree for that, you just need observational skills.

Much better? I have yet to see isolated players' performances broken down like this. Everyone gives generic rhetoric based on watching the game on Fox or ESPN or NBC. The only thing missing in his breakdown is an analysis of Ellis' take off on the ball, his use of pass rush moves and his read-react time.

You see, you don't necessarily need to be well versed or trained in technique to see those types of things. Tivo on my brothas, tivo on... BUT I can't wait to read La Novela Basura de La Semana by the various guilty parties here on the Zone.

Rock on!!

That might or might not be true (it's impossible to know), but it's irrelevant. If two guys grab the quarterback when he's standing up and take him down, they each get half a sack -- especially when they grab him almost simultaneously. There have been plenty of examples of a quarterback escaping from one guy or throwing the ball while he's being taken down.

You haven't been a member long enough to read such breakdowns by the members here.

Why does it bother you to read people's observations on a messageboard? I mean, nobody is propping these guys up as major football experts, but their opinions are respected, because their opinions are presented in a well-thought out manner.

And if you wonder why I respond to your skepticism, it's because you've yet to provide an alternative opinion on anything they've posted. Just piss on the whole post, but offer nothing of substance in response.

McMahon didn't do anything special, at least not based on what I've seen posted on this board over the years. It was cool, but like I said, you don't need a degree for it.

I understand and I'm glad for Spears to finally get a half of a sack. He would have probably gotten the sack by his self if Ellis hadn't already beaten him to the QB.

The 3 point stance thing was actually said by Ellis, that they wanted to keep him going forward, cause going back as a OLB put stress on his achilles.

Since he doesn't want to play OLB anyway, sounds good for him.

Well, it's literally true. The poster has only been a member for 3 months. Why would anyone expect him to have a knowledgeable opinion on the quality of posts here over the past several years?

Having an opinion that doesn't fall in line with yours doesn't make anyone a "poser" or poster - as you so eloquently put it. Enjoy your weekly game film review. I'm still allowed to criticize the method.

He hasn't been made to feel unwelcome. Maybe you're a little sensitive to mod interaction.

Exactly my point. Not knocking the guy, but that's why I ask him to challenge the opinion rather than piss on the post in its entirety. Since we're all on a messageboard with only the TV broadcast to view, the method is irrelevant, the information that is posted is.

No ma'aam, I belive I just did offer the alternative opinion with appropriate backup. He listed every play, the result, and furthermore how the graded or isolated player effected or was involved or not involved by being accounted for by the offense.

No one has done that in their posts titled GAME FILM REVIEW - no one. The argument that I haven't been a member of this particular message board for several years - this lame seniority card that you and several others find so clever by pulling out really has no scoring on your argument's side whatsoever. Nor does it affect me at all. McMahon did in very short order what none of the repeat offenders of the GAME FILM REVIEW gang have done yet this season or last.

If you really want to put something in your war pipe to smoke, we can go over this week's offerings from Grizz, YRich and others - comapred to what Tim did. Their time and effort are not at question.

Dude, if you want a play-by-play breakdown of the entire game just look here:

http://www.nfl.com/scores

That isn't what Grizz, Rich, and others even intend to do.

Again, put in some more time when your post. HE GAVE Ellis' result on the play. Those who do game film reviews would be better off using nfl.com as resource when they break the film down. Maybe then, they wouldn't leave out sacks and tackles for loss - or even a wrong shoulder by a DE on a pulling Guard to blow up the play and allow a scraping LB to make the tackle.
Adios, Desperado - who today, boys and girls, is a little too itchy on the 'ole trigger finger.

The effort on providing the link was dually noted, though.
