DMN Blog: How do you like Martellus Bennett now?

Not at all. I'm saying that they could have drafted him if they had really wanted to. It might have meant not being able to draft stud OLB Erik Walden in round 6, but I'd be willing to live with that.

I think it has plenty. There were decent to good receivers to be had, and yet the team took a bust lineman who can't play while they continue to ignore the receiver position.

Again, they could have had either one if they really wanted them. Draft position is an excuse.

Jackson looks like he'll be a key contributor in Philadelphia while Bennett will always be TE #2 in Dallas - at best.

Drafting Marten in 2007 had nothing to do with not drafting Jackson or Sweed in 2008. Two different drafts.

Draft position is not an excuse. It is a reality. It takes two teams to make a trade happen. How much did you expect Dallas to trade in order to land Jackson? You brought up a 6th rounder, but it may have cost more. I am not going to fault Dallas for not being able to pull a trade up. There is no way of knowing if they tried or not. It is unreasonable to think that it would have been easy to just make a trade up happen.

You having an opinion is fine. That does not mean that either your opinion or my opinion is right in the end.

Absolutely right. I agree 100%.

You brought up Dallas drafting Marten in the 3rd round in 2007. There were 8 wide receivers drafted in the 3rd round after Dallas picked Marten. Of those 8 only James Jones of the Packers did anything. Two more were drafted in the 4th round and did nothing. Dallas could have drafted any one of those wide receivers to try to address the wide receiver position as you desire and in the end may have still failed to do so. Those guys drafted may eventually pan out, but it is not as if they are head and shoulders above the receivers Dallas has brought in as undrafted free agents.

No, but Jones has shown up as a playmaker for Green Bay and Marten hsan't contributed a thing, even in preseason.

There were other candidates too like Jacoby Jones, Mike Walker, Higgins, Steve Breaston, David Clowney, and Courtney Taylor who's said to be pushing for a starting job in Seattle (due to injury).

I guess this team's recent track record with receivers is a sore spot with me.

Sure, but both drafts contributed to where we are today. Thin at receiver, and loaded at backup TE!

Hey, it may have cost a 4th rounder!

And if that 4th rounder meant we'd have a receiver who can contribute over a 3rd string running back I'd be OK with that, and I really like Tashard Choice.

The point is that the team could have gotten it done if they had really wanted to.

This team has never been reluctant to make trades.

Bennett still has a five year old head on a man's body. So I do not like the pick until he matures and starts playing the part he was drafted to play.
