So, the depth behind Austin just got thinner.

Glad we didn't take a vet now?

I think Landry gave a guy into his third season to show something.

Jimmy Smith did zip with us for two years, then got well, went to the Jags and did 22-268-3 TDs his third year.

But that's the most unusual case, one of the very few guys who did nothing for two years and did good his third year.

Other QB-to-WR conversions have shown something, or a lot, the first two years.

Never mind the outrageous Hines Ward. Just look at Crayton:

Crayton:
2004 (rookie): 12-162-1
2005: 22-341-2

Stanback:
2007 (rookie) 0-0 in two games
2008: 2-24-0 in eight games

Stanback is a stan-up dude. I hope he's Jimmy Smith. But if M. Johnson or Ogletree show just a little and can tackle someone, just once on ST in preseason like Hurd does, put one of the rookies on the 53.

But Jerry will probably make an ill-advised trade again for a WR if we need one anyway.

This is one of the most minor injuries he has had by far, if not the most minor.

I don't think it's good for him to miss any practice time, esp. since he's missed a lot in his transition to receiver ... but this shouldn't stop him from showing that the transition is complete in camp.

If we don't get an indication that he's more than a project now, whether it's due to injury or whatever, that's when I'll join in on it being his time to go.

I can't really fathom why anyone is intent on him being cut from an 80-man roster before we possibly get a chance to see that. If it doesn't work out, then he goes the same way as 26 other players (possibly more) will do during camp.

Yeah cutting Oglesby was stupid last year as the poster above said. He put up some fair numbers for the Ravens in the years before we picked him up.

My memory recollects he about won single-handedly the two preseason games for us that we won last year. ...

His problem: I think he was handicapped in the middle of the field because of lack of speed, but he had great quickness and anticipation in a short field/red zone. So he should have been a ST guy (I can't remember if he was good) but at least he would have been active as a "red zone DB" (has there ever been such a thing?)

Anyway Oglesby put up 26 total tackles last season for a D as awesome as the Ravens were. That would have ranked him around 15th or so as far as tacklers last year for the Cowboys, a little behind Spencer but ahead of Jenkins. ... they had as many/more solo tackles but not as many total tackles as Oglesby did last year.

Nice going Wade, Jerry and others. Let's keep Brad Johnson instead of Matt Moore. Let's keep Stanback, Free and other high-drafted spares, instead of Oglesby. They made good decisions to pick up Moore and Oglesby, but then cowered because they would have had to keep more proven talented guys that had done a hell of a lot more in preseason, over guys that were evidently kind of spare and had bigger contracts.

I thought Jerry said: "No pet cats here ..."

Nowadays I wonder if Tom Hicks, for gods sake, is the best GM in Dallas ... at least he may have finally got it ...

If he gets injured again, he will not be a Cowboy for long.
One year injured is understandable, but this man finds ways to get hurt every year.

Get rid of him, not because he's injured, but because he's quite frankly "not a football player"

Just how many MORE injury passes do some people want to give this guy?
As far as I am concerned one more and he should be GONE. If he does not show a LOT during TC he should be GONE.

His return depends on what they find at arthroscopy and if they can repair it via with the scope which is most likely.

But he does have to overcome his fragile label even more so now. He won't get any slack.

Wow... he just can't stay healthy. I have a strong feeling he might not be on the roster this year much less get past TC. The only thing that keeps him on the team is JJones trying to save face that the pick used on Stanback was not wasted.

I disagree. He's on the team because he's one of the fastest and most athletic guys on the team and they're hoping he can help us at WR. I think he can if he can stay healthy. That I'm not sure about.

Nothing shocking here. I expected him to be hurt at some point this summer. He simply got started earlier than usual this year.

dmq, enjoy your sarcasm.

Since the dark ages known as the Lacewell, Jerry-letting-coaches-have-the-say-in-drafts-instead-of-scouts era, that is, since 2003 draft:

4 Tashard Choice Georgia Tech
5 Orlando Scandrick Boise State
6 Erik Walden Middle Tenn. State (at least on a roster)
6 Nicholas Folk Arizona
6 Deon Anderson Connecticut
7 Courtney Brown Cal Poly-S.L.O.
7 Alan Ball Illinois
5 Pat Watkins Florida State
4 Marion Barber Minnesota
4 Chris Canty Virginia
7 Jay Ratliff Auburn
7 Nathan Jones Rutgers
7 Patrick Crayton NW Oklahoma State
7 Jacques Reeves Purdue
4 Bradie James Louisiana State

Yes, we can find guys other than "reaches" in the fourth round. And, god forbid, the Pats/Steelers/Giants/Eagles etc. actually BUILD their team on day two. How do they do it?

I'd give him ONE more shot if he can be healthy by camp to compete for a job. If not? Bye.
