If he was a more developed prospect, I would be ok with keeping him, despite the injuries. Always being hurt has really set back his development though and, after this latest injury, I can't imagine keeping him once the regular season begins. If any of the late round WRs/UDFA guys show any long term potential at all, then they should get the roster spot.

Let Stanback compete for a roster spot on next seasons 4th and Long.

Okay, I have not read the thread yet. Given the title and the player. I can only imagine the reactions. Take a deep breath...plunge right in...

Get rid of this guy.
Exactly it drives me crazy that this guy and Carp are still on this team.

Why'd this crack me up?
Because superpunk is seriously funny. I look for his posts every day. Especially if I need a laugh.

Will Isaiah Stanback even be healthy after another training camp and pre-season?

If he can stay healthy and start showing something on the field, I can see Izzy again making the cut with a rookie receiver as insurance on the practice squad.

But will he be healthy?

It's certainly hurt Stanback's development, but he has been able to practice with the team most of the past two seasons while dealing with the shoulder issue by not immediately going on injured reserve.

How much has that practice helped? No idea.

But a lot of players would have opted for surgery right away and just focused on being healthy for the following year.

No reason to write the guy off just yet.

I do think it's more than fair to say that this puts him behind, so to speak. In my mind, he has to be clearly better than another guy to make this team. At some point, potential just goes wasted.

If a guy like Manny Johnson, Travis Wilson, or Ogletree do well, I hope they get a great shot at making this team. I wouldn't want someone held back because Stanback has such amazing potential and was drafted in the fourth round a few years ago.

Another Surgery, Setback For Stanback
Posted by nickeatman

If this is supposed to be the year that Isaiah Stanback proves himself as an NFL player, it certainly hasn’t started well.

The wide receiver has suffered yet another injury setback, needing surgery on Thursday to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, owner Jerry Jones announced out in Arlington.

Jones, speaking out at the new stadium where the Cowboys lit up the 600-ton video board for the first time, did not have a solid timetable for Stanback’s return this season.

Stanback, who came to the Cowboys in 2007 with a Lis Franc foot injury that kept him out the entire off-season and most of training camp as a rookie, has since battled constant shoulder injuries, resulting in two separate surgeries.

The latest injury apparently occurred this week as the Cowboys begin OTA workouts at Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium. The Cowboys are forced to practice at the nearby high school stadium because of the accident that occurred at the team facility on May 2 that not only destroyed the tension structure, but damaged the other two grass practice fields.

Stanback was expected to compete for a backup receiver spot, along with Miles Austin and Sam Hurd. In two seasons, Stanback has played in just 10 games and has only two receptions.

Meniscus surgery isn't that bad. I just had one exactly one month ago. I was up and walking 2 days after the surgery and started running and cutting a couple days ago.

With how much he will be working it out and the technology he has at his disposal he will have a much quicker recovery. No big deal IMO.

I wouldn't doubt a lot of football players have damaged meniscuses.

I don't think the MCL is a big deal either...but the frequency in which this guy gets dinged is. When do you say "when" with a guy like this? IMO, the answer would come after this year's training camp. If he's healthy and performs, give him another year on the roster, if not....

Why ya gotta be all level headed in a sky is falling thread?

j/k Chicken Littles

Maybe we can trade Stanback to Jeff Ireland and the Dolphins for Dexter Coakley.
