It's not even looking as good on paper as other teams in the division improve and some players on the roster are proving themselves to be paper tigers. I don't even think guys like TO as given studs anymore.

Wow, worst year ever? Seriously?

Just a few years ago, 2004 was way worse.

2004 was only bad because people had ridiculous expectations for what realistically wasn't a good team. The Cowboys, despite being a bit overrated in the "talent" department, are good enough to do some damage for real and they're not.

Most disappointing for sure.

I've never seen a Cowboys team with higher expectations underachieve as much as this one did.

TO doesn't have to be a 'stud' anymore, although I'm not sure tha he still isn't.

Look at this team's offensive playmakers compared to anyone else in the entire league.

Nobody's got the skill position players that the Cowboys do.

They've just got to figure out how to use 'em.

Yes. I go back to the Ice Bowl -- lots of years following the Cowboys. Last year, in my mind, was easily the worst. Easily.

I don't think they're 'overrated' in the talent department.

They just underachieved with the talent they did have.

People had unrealistic expectations in 2004? I don't remember that. Most people knew we overachieved ridiculously in 2003, and weren't going anywhere with Squatting Vinny at QB.

I thought it sucked because we were 6-10 and the team literally looked like it quit the entire last half of the year.

Maybe that's yours and the "knowledgeable" fan's perception of it, but I remember a lot of "THE BOYS ARE BACK" talk after the run in 2003.

Yeah!

At least this year they waited until the last game!

Losing the final game at Texas Stadium outweighs 2004 all by itself for me.

Having our destiny in our own hands 2 straight weeks and blowing it.

The drama.

The expectations.

It was a bad year for me personally on top of that. Horrible year.

They just underachieved with the talent they did have.

We'll just disagree on that then.

On offense: We have a supposed Pro Bowl center who can't snap the ball and has mental meltdowns a fairly regular basis. While I think he's most overrated player on that side of the ball, the entire offensive line gets too much credit. They have games where they live up to their reputation, but far too often I feel like Tony Romo makes them look good with his mobility pass game wise and they get pushed around in the run game. I don't think anyone will deny that for a supposedly massive/road grading line, they don't do a lot of that. The skill players are pretty talented, but they're also without their issues. Patrick Crayton drops it entirely too much for supposedly the most sure handed guy on the team. Owens' drop problem is well documented and he can't seem to beat a press anymore. The little we did see Roy do last year should impress no one. All of that can go back the way they've been used, but if they're that talented it should be shining through more than it does. You don't hear about this kind of foolishness nearly as much with other teams.

On defense: Ken Hamlin is just flat out stealing money. Anthony Spencer to this point is a bust in my eyes. Greg Ellis is clearly washed up and lacking in atheticism at this point. Anthony Henry beaten like a drum fair regularly. Terence Newman is getting to the point where his health is making him liability and he was awful when he tried to gut it out. And really that's just talking about guys that play big roles on the D.

Yeah, by 'skill positions' I meant outside the linemen. Despite their physical talents, I think most of our linemen have been susceptible to the ill-timed 'brain fart'.

As far as the skill guys go, I'll stand by what I said earlier. I think the talent is certainly there, it's just a matter of using it properly. But we can agree to disagree there.

The defense is certainly underperforming, given the money and draft picks invested in it.

Fortunately, Wade has been freed of the pressures of being the head coach and can now focus solely on 'fixing' the defense.

I agree with Hos. Last season was brutal by all perspectives.

The off-season is all about hope. Each off-season brings the hope of a better year to come with new players and roster improvement. This off-season I have NO hope. I feel as if this team has been placed on probation and all we can do is let next season run it's course.

Jerry may think the new stadium will excite the fans but that will burn off quickly if the losses mount and the fans see another display of a bunch of heartless, gutless losers.

I don't have a worst moment although some are really up there. The Ice Bowl was very difficult. The Balt loss killed me. Before that the two Cleveland losses hurt badly esp how badly we lost. Those seasons felt difficult because 'we couldn't win the big games or the big one'. Lilly took the Balt loss badly. I'm glad he got a SB win. The Rams loss at home hurt badly. 86. But this last year was really brutal all year. They lost it after game three and just really never got back on track although the defense did for the most part.

They all hurt.

I did put this up. Last night. along with the jimmy johnson interview from wed.

It is in the thread named Americas team or jerry's dream part 4.

This interview made me even more pessimistic about the future. I am not sure we will ever win big again with jerry calling the shots.

I dont think anyone is realizing there is a new jimmy interview with hansen from a few weeks ago where he says he was the GM and it was in his contract and now the live interview with jerry from last night..

its all in this thread..

Thanks for posting, Jimmy Johnson hit the nail right on the head when it comes to Jones.

I think Jimmy hit the nail right on the head!

Wow, CA... So you really think this is the most hopeless this team has ever been in? Worse than Quincy and Vinny at QB? Worse than 1-15? Worse than Tex forcing Paul Hackett on Tom Landry? Worse than Landry's last team that drafted #1 overall? Worse than the late 90s team that was obviously slowly deteriorating from its Super Bowl days? Worse than Campo's 5-11 team that had no cap room or high draft picks?

I just don't see it. We've won 22 games the last two years and have a still-pretty-young QB who has plenty of talent and many years left. It's not like half our team left in free agency or something.

Things may not be perfect, but they aren't that bad, either. To each his own, I guess.
