DMN Blog: Nick Folk understands why the move was made

I am going to say it right now. If we draft a kicker in 2010 I am going to need a restraining order.

I just don't understand people who think like this. Listen, I hate kickers too. I think the NFL should abolish them, but the fact remains that very good teams have very good kickers. They are HUGELY important in todays NFL.

How many bums can you draft in the 5th, 6th, 7th round, where you could have taken a top flight kicker?

I'd draft a kicker every year until I got one that was money.

please, kickers are a dime a dozen.

Lemme get this straight.

We don't draft WRs because they are too hit and miss.

But we'll draft two kickers in three years?

Ho kay.

Yes and one of them can only kick FGs well and one of them can only do kickoffs. You would think that if you were going to draft a kicker, you'd draft one who could do both to save a roster position.

Well, we're finding and developing WRs without a problem. But we can't find a kicker to save our life, so I guess it makes sense.

Eh...as long as Buehler is doing what he's doing, he's worth a roster spot. He adds about 400 yards a season as compared to 2008.

What a dumb title. Of course, he understands why the move was made. He missed 10 FGs this year, that's 30 points; and entire game of scoring. How could anyone not understand that?

Absolutely a ridiculous statement. Could be the dumbest opinion I've ever heard on here.

Best of luck out there Folk. I recommend a trip to Tibet to focus with the monks on the mountain, and rediscover your Inner-Kicker...you used to have it, you have lost focus, concentration, determination, and most of all, and worse of all, confidence.

I hope you can get it back. You're a good guy, you totally rocked for us for two years. We wanted you here for a decade. We sure didn't want to be in this situation of "which kicker next?"

You HAD it Nick. Get it back. Not sure what happened with you (the injury?) but you have got to exorcise whatever demons are haunting you in order to get back to being Nick Folk, clutch kicker.

Both really happy and really sad to see you go. But for THIS YEAR that is left, I'm happy to see a new kicker brought in.

Best of luck to you. Despite your recent problems you have earned my respect.

why?

kickers ARE a dime a dozen, pissing away a draft pick on a glorified soccer player is what is stupid.

Too bad we couldn't stash him on IR. Thems the breaks I guess! :(

4 years ago, we lost 3 games because of missed EASY field goals. It was the year before we drafted Folk. Those three we missed meant the difference between getting homefield advantage in the playoffs, and NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. You know why? Because Jerry was on record as saying he wouldn't pay big money, or draft a kicker.

They weren't a "dime a dozen" then, and they're not now.

Do you think Belicheck thinks kickers are a dime a dozen? they won 2 maybe 3 superbowls because of CLUTCH KICKS. Kicks with the absolute game on the line. Kicks that crappy kickers could easily choke on.

If kickers were a dime a dozen, we wouldn't be looking at reject skins kickers right now.

Ridiculous.

Welcome to the world of Jerry.

Even the highly drafted Mason Crosby is on the verge of flunking out of cheeseland.
You do realize this statement cuts against your claim, don't you?

Ridiculous.

The fact that we are using a skins reject shows just how replaceable these kicker clowns are.

Your boy Belichick obviously placed so much value in his kicker that he gave him a huge contract extenstion...oh thats right, he let him go to the Colts because KICKERS ARE A DIME A DOZEN.

You mean the guy Belichick replaced with a kicker he drafted in the FOURTH ROUND?

Seriously, are you trying to prove your point or prove the opposite?

It doesnt, Im saying kickers are a dime a dozen and even highly drafted players like Crosby are not exempt from failure and replacement. Follow along.
