Well, since he's wearing #38 next year maybe he's reinventing himself and plans to work harder in the weight program and film room? Probably not.

That "8" is going to make him look even fatter.

I question two things in that report.

1. That RW wasn't in shape last year.
2. That he is not big enough to play linebacker.

He is not much different in size from other middle linebackers. In fact many good middle linebackers weigh less than he weighed 2 seasons ago.

I would suggest a couple of big things are hurting his play severely.

1. He tries to knock everyone out and get on Sportscenter. That leads to big misses as well as big hits. It also leads to gambling on plays.

2. His early success really blew his ego up and he stopped working on his coverage skills. His personality is one that does not deal with critique or criticism well at all it seems.

Other minor issues.
Scheme changes.

We continually are moving him around and changing his coverage assignments. All of these different reads make it more difficult for him to be in the right spot at the right time. Other players can do so but he is clearly not getting it with regards to positional football. Greg Ellis for instance sucks in coverage but he is often just by being in his spot able to stop plays going that way. RW has a coverage deficit but he is also often not in the right spot.

I really hope RW can re-dedicate himself to football 24x7 and get healthy enough to play at his best. He was clearly injured early last year and his shoulder was often a huge question mark.

I am still a fan of RW but I recognize he has been better than he was the past 2 seasons.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but with some work RW can get in better shape and spend more time in the film room/with coaches to improve his recognition of plays. And, he can work on his tackling, of course.

It's really up to him to want to continue to improve his game.

Personally, I think he will re-dedicate himself. Maybe that's one of the reasons he wants to change his uniform number? He knows he can do better.

Anyway, I'm holding out hope for 1 more season.

There's an old saying: "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". There's a lot of truth to it.

I think the only way he improves is if you seriously damage his pride. Either bench him for a long stretch or trade him for a second day pick.

...also maybe losing Woodson had an impact on Roy. Woodson was a great field general on D. Maybe he got lost w/o him and was never able to recover from the loss?

Just a thought.

But all the stats say is a top flight SS.

Anyone watching him play can see his is costing our defense.

That is certainly one argument that many have put forth to explain the decline in his play.

I tend to disagree with this notion as Roy Williams was a major force in 2004 and 2005.

That ship has sailed.

Woodson has zero to do with what is wrong with roy williams.

Neither do Bill Parcells, Mike Zimmer, Todd Bowles, Brian Stewart or Wade phillips.

Its about roy. He is just not the same guy.

This is about the 20th time I have posted this but some people just don't want to believe it. Roy got his money and now he doesn't really care. He is just going through the motions until he is released or his contract runs out. It is as obvious as anything can be and if you can't see it, you need to take off your homer glasses. The team would be much better off without Roy Williams on the team. I think his attitude and lack of desire on the field is a big reason the team continues to decline in December. That kind of thing has a way of infecting others.
agree 100%. somebody posted not long ago how they saw his house on cribs and can see why he sucks now. he is finacially set and he can do what he really wants to do now. which is get fat and hang out at church

Sadly, this statment isn't true.

There are too many here that still do not see that he's costing us when it is so painfully clear, because of this:

But all the stats say is a top flight SS.

As I've been saying all year, sometimes you have to look beyond the stats.

And yet, this year, he played with the first Pro-Bowl caliber saftey since Woody and it still didn't help his game.

I still blame Kelly Rowland for this mess.

Wish we still had Abram Elam.

So did I, until I found out it was Roy that dumped Kelly.

Pathetic..............cut 'your' losses and move on. I question not only his ability, but his heart and/or lack thereof.

Exactly...Cut this clown or stick him on special teams and let him get embarrassed out there until he actually is motivated to be on the defense again.

Anyone see the video Roy did for the SB commercial about not being able to read until the 12th grade?

That was a shocking admission.

For real?

I may have to search Youtube for that one when I get home.

If indeed true, I wonder what the primary reason for that was.

So a first grade reading level can get you into OU?

Well I'm sure althletic prowess in school didn't have anything to do with it. There was a guy that was a senior when I was a sophmore in highschool that went to Navarro JC then Lamar on scholarship, made it on the Saints as a backup linebacker for a year. The man is 47 years old and I know for a fact he still can't read.

Next year is do or die with Roy Williams for me.

Hes one of my favorite players but the proof is in the pudding. Hes just not that great.

Who ever voted him in the Pro Bowl should not be allowed to vote ever again either.

We did things this year to help cover his weaknesses and he still could not over come it.

He could be the best safety in the game. Thats why im so upset about this guy.

I hate to see us lose a guy like Keith Davis because of Roy Williams.

I almost didn't think that was, you know, reading, reading... Or that I heard it wrong.... Because no matter how true, I couldn't believe the NFL would put that on a national ad.
