He really is the anti-TO. Yeah his play has been ehhh lately, but this is the kind of guy you WANT on your team...a real TEAM Player.

I still hold out hope that he can get his crap together.

Some folks gave Stanback more of a chance than they have Roy.

Right but what was Stanback's salary? Roy is making way more money than any other WR on this team and you can argue he's playing the worst ball out of ALL the WR's. It was easy to give Stanback time to develop as a 4th round pick with a low base salary.

And, rightfully so.

To be fair, Stanback didn't cost us 3 draft picks or a multi-million dollar cap hit, nor was he ever brought in to be the #1. Stanback was a project. Roy was to be a finished product.

Sorry bro, but that boat won't float.

Correction. Roy's making way more money than every other WR on this team COMBINED.

Yeah, but Stanback was a young guy, it was more a matter if he continued to develop as he matured. He didn't, he's gone.

Roy has been in the league what? 7+ years? He is what he is -- a guy who had a couple of decent years in Detroit (even though some schmo named Mike Furrey caught more balls than he did in one of those years). Plus, I'm pretty sure we didn't give up a first and third rounder and a load of Jerry's money for Stanback.

Not that I put that on Roy -- as I said, I knew he sucked and I thought Jerry had learned his lesson with the Joey Galloway fiasco. This is Jerry's fault but again, I also recognize the very astute job he's done with most of our other players so I'm good with this one mistake, albeit a very costly one.

I must say that I truly cannot believe how hard some people are bending over backwards to make Roy look like a great asset to this team.

I have absolutely no agenda on Roy. I do want production from our players on the field no matter who it is. I know that some claim William's salary is irrelevant to this conversation. That's an agenda, and it's dead wrong. Absolutely dead wrong. Don't tell me that you can be successful in the NFL by paying players beyond their contribution. A player here or there? Sure. In the short run? Yes. But not as a rule. That makes all salaries relevant.

I'm really glad Williams is working hard to not be a distraction. I'm really glad he works hard at blocking, or selling routes, and being a team player. That is all very much to his credit. But it doesn't justify an average salary of $9mil.

I expect no increased contribution this season. What we've seen is probably what we'll get for now. Maybe he is capable of more in the future. If so, please bring it. I really don't care. I just want someone in that #2 role that can pull their contractual weight for the long haul and meet the teams needs.

I don't care at all what we gave up to get the guy. That is truly water over the dam and a sunk cost. What isn't sunk are contractual $ going forward - which I am not familiar with on Roy. But if players cannot pull their contractual weight going forward, you look for better options. That's the way it is.

Off the top of my head the folks that ought to worry would be...
Roy
Hamlin
Flo

I think its fine to hang with a guy you believe in. Give him time, and help and grace. But ONLY to ultimately get your payout from him. At some point players must pull their contractual weight.

I hope Roy can do that in the future. Right now, I'm not convinced he can.

Something is telling me Roy Williams will turn it up a notch. Garrett needs to throw a little more his way.

I'm just not completely certain how people are still getting wrapped around the axle about a guy that's added 7 TD catches to Miles Austin's 11, as well as been a team player.

For weeks I have tried to avoid threads about Roy even though I would love to speak my mind. This time I am. You cannot put a price on a team first player. He is respected by the entire team even if the fans and media don't. His QB loves him (I do think he lacks some confidence in him and it is Roy's fault and he acknowledges it). On Crayton's TD he played a role of drawing the defender out of the Zone. He blocks. I am sorry to all of hsi many detractors, but these things matter. He contributes to our wins. I would love to see the stats too, but I want the wins.

Those are good points Hos. However, I think a lot of the fans frustration is as much directed at Jerry as it is Roy.

Those qualities you mentioned are all great qualities but you don't trade multiple draft picks and make a guy the highest paid WR in the NFL because he blocks and is respected by his teammates. You pay him to catch the ball, run great routes, get open and overall make the kind of plays Miles Austin makes.

What is frustrating is that Roy showed the same negative traits in Detroit that he is showing now and yet Jerry was so bound and determined to get him that he ignored the obvious warning signs that were present.

There are a lot of reasons no other GM in the league was competing with us in the trade.

Right now it looks like just a really bad trade for Jerry and the Cowboys and one of the worst decisions he has made in his time as owner of the Cowboys.

Hopefully Roy can get it together during this playoff run and next year and begin to make a contribution.

Garrett is replacing Romo at QB this weekend?

I had no idea.

I was so aggravated after his drop in the Washington game and grinning about it that I said if I was Romo I would never throw another pass his way this season.

Obviously that was just frustration talking; however it seems like Romo had the same thought.:(

The last thing I would conclude after 24-0 is that we need to throw to Roy more.

What he said...

I'm befuddled by Roy's lack of production since he came to Dallas, can't even begin to explain it... I mean, look at his stats with the Lions-- in 60 games for them, he had 262 receptions, for 3884 yards and 29 TDs... so it would have been reasonable to project that Roy, in the 15 games he played for the Boys this year, should have put up 65 catches for 970 yards and 7 TDs... even factoring in the Boys having more playmakers than the Lions did, thus cutting into Roy's production some, we could have reasonably expected 60 catches for 900 yards and 6 TDs...

Yes, I'm confused; you can't convince me that Roy just suddenly lost his game... I just think he's lost his confidence... what makes me think that more than anything is the drops he's had in critical situations this year; Roy has always had very reliable hands prior to this season...

And although this season has been a disappointment, indeed his Cowboys career to this point has been a disappointment, I still think he's capable of putting up some good numbers for the Cowboys in years to come... he might not ever justify the draft picks that Jerry put up, and it might be fair to expect him to renegotiate his contract into a sum fair for a 50-60 catch a year receiver, but I still think he can be a vital part of our passing game...

Maybe he can show us some of that in the playoffs...

Yeah, but I think he hurt himself because it took him a while to go from "Romo just throws the ball better to everyone else" to "I'm doing something wrong here."

Yeah, I was disappointed when he went down that road... in his defense, I think he's gotten defensive because of all the criticism he's taken from the Metroplex mediots, and even the national mediots, since he's come to Dallas...

But he's saying the right things now...

So you are saying Romo would never throw that ball to a wide open Roy Williams and Sheldon Brown should have been covering Crayton 1 on 1?

Yeah, that's brilliant. Purely myopic, but brilliant.

Hos, by now you should know that some folks will never let go of their A-G-E-N-D-A...

I have been hard on Roy for his drops and his attitude during the interviews.

He seems to be getting the mental aspect straight over the past two weeks. The physical part should follow soon. He was pressing too hard to prove he was all everybody wanted him to be and disprove the naysayers, which were many. Once he gets past that and just goes out to play football he will be fine!

I think you've nailed it-- Roy's been putting pressure on himself... he needs to relax, and just play the game...

What's my agenda, man? Like I don't want Roy to succeed? Please elaborate as to what this "agenda" is as a hardcore Cowboys fan who wants the team to succeed so badly.

The most significant reason for the decent coverage is the same as it always is -- it's because Roy SUCKS at route-running.

Yeah, lots of players who suck at route-running have put up 1300 yard receiving seasons...

Comments like that only demonstrate that your self-proclaimed knowledge of the game is not what you think it is...

cowboys2233;3200715 said:
He's been exactly what I thought he'd be.

I see-- you expected that a man who averaged 70 catches and 1035 yards for every 16 games played for the Lions would only give the Boys 38 catches for 596 yards in 15 games for the Boys this year...

Pardon me if I suggest you're full of crap... there's no way ANYBODY thinking rationally could have projected that Roy's career averages would fall off so drastically when coming from a perenially bad team to a significantly better one...

Neither did Roy... we gave the Lions three picks, got back Roy and a pick...
