DMN: DeMarco Murray's future with Cowboys in doubt; RB set to fly to Philadelphia on Thursday

Based on media speculation, it looks as if today is the day Demarco signs with Philly. Of all teams, I'm very unhappy with this but it's absolutely necessary that the Cowboys let him walk. I live in the Philly area, so this signing will be absolutely horrible for me, but it is what it is. The Cowboys are finally playing the free agent game smart by not overpaying for guys like a lot of teams are. They have done this for years and as history suggests, spending a lot of money in free agency is not the way to build a successful team. Good drafting and smart spending is the way most successful franchises handle their business in the NFL. Once the Cowboys get some cap flexibility, then you can afford to splurge on the occasional need but as of right now, they're still digging out of the hole created by bad contracts, bad trades and poor drafting. If last year is any indication, this franchise has a plan.

Stay the course, don't overreact and work your plan. Let Chip Kelly do what the Cowboys have done over the past 10 years, while we sit back and watch the Cowboys finally do things the right way. Thank you Stephen Jones.

I just cannot see the Eagles signing both him and Matthews in this age of the Cap. I think that this is a stunt to put pressure on JJ and Stephen. They will not bite.

If DeMarco flies back to Dallas this afternoon without a contract, this exercise just might be over. Time to kiss and make up with Murray and get this over with.

Or pull the offer and send him packing and stop playing games.

I think the only way the Beagles took this meeting, was the Beagles saying you have told us where the Boys are, we are willing to go higher. But if we do you sign it now, no taking it back to the Boys.

Of course unless their plan is just to drive the price up.

I hope it's not.

Tired of this game. If you want to get paid more, go to Oakland or Jacksonville. And not win anything.

And this tactic of kissing up to a division rival is beyond 'negotiations', it's insulting.

I'm pulling my offer and moving on at this point. Go get paid to lose or sign for less money with a division rival and get clobbered.

I can see,it,now, bradford tears,an acl, handing, off to,murray, who, trips, avoiding, him pulls a hamstring and fumbling, all, while matthews hurts his shoulder trying to,drink gatorade on the sidelines. All 3 to IR in the morning.
Jerry pull the offer and move,on, i loved,dm until HE called th,eagles

Yeah, that was the tipping point for me too. And I hope it was for Jerry Jones too.

Players just don't do that. Negotiating is one thing, this is another.

Thanks for the memories! (especially that TD you turned into a fumble in Green Bay...)

I love DeMarco and hope he doesn't go to the Eagles, and understand he needs to get the best deal that he can, but please go somewhere else. That's just not good news for us.

I very happy for DeMarco. He needs to strike while the iron is hot. This is his last shot to cash in so he needs to take it.
There are no worries, the Cowboys will find a RB or Committee or run the ball next season. Lots of good backs in the draft.

Not much less, if anything.

Much less isn't the point. Let's just say they sign Demarco for 6-7M per (just spitballing here). They'll then be able to sign Murray/Mathews (both of whom are more straight downhill power runners which is what he wants) AND Kiko Alonso for the price Shady was going to cost them alone.

Shady $12.5M hit.

Mathews $4M
Murray $7M

And Murray & Mathews hits would not be that much in the first year.

So you're factoring in McCoy's bonus money, but not Murray or Matthews'?

That doesn't seem fair...

Would love to see Randle, Williams, Dunbar combine for 2,000+ yards to show all these divas they're replaceable.

Can you point to one single way in which DeMarco has acted like a Diva? Give it a break. Seriously.

I'm fine drafting a back and moving on, but there's no need to bash on a guy who was an amazing warrior for the team, gave his all and--at least from where we sit--was a good guy.

Sure he does. And he deserves to. I'm sure the Jaguars and Raiders are offering more money. But he's not signing there. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants to stay in Dallas, but make more money than the Cowboys are willing to pay too.

He can't have it both ways and he doesn't like it.

So he resorts to the classless move of reaching out to a division rival.

And that's when I'm done with him.

Go and 'get paid', go 'feed your family', and then be the next guy Chip Kelly chops in the name of 'salary cap management'.

With the net result being better at linebacker and worse at RB.

And ultimately paying more for Sproles, Matthews, and Murray than the rest of the league is paying for their stable of running backs.

i keep hearing he called the eagles and i've not yet looked it up. part of me doesn't want to, part of me hopes it's not true.

all of me would be disappointed if he did.

i know it's a business but he has an agent who, if anyone, should have called. if it's a ploy,it's not a good one cause many cowboys fans will have a hard time getting over it (hell crayton dropped 1 pass and it haunted him forever) and the next fumble he may just wanna head to the lockerroom and hibernate. ok, we're not likely to throw batteries at him or bottles, he's got that coming it sounds like. whatever is going on it is beyond my control and not worth much of an emotional investment in the end so i'll just move along now.

but philly??? gonna need a crapload of old spice for xmas...

Reading the tea leaves, I think DeMarco feels slighted by Jerry for all he did for the team last year. He may even have
a bitterness concerning the situation. Many people feel a need to strike back at the team that slighted them and this
might be his way to do it. I don't think it will work out for him but, he probably feels he'll get even twice a year.

Yeah, it's just a classless maneuver. And then to talk up the Sam Bradford connection and what great buddies they were, it's just too much for me. It's one thing to negotiate, I can respect that. This blatant public pandering is just disrespectful and low class.

Again, I pull my offer and move on.

Philliy has played this brilliantly - they win either way here ; they get Murray or they get JJ to go over budget an pay a big cap number .

Temporarily they've also created animosity amongst the player , fans, and brass ...

I can tell you Bernie Williams - a great Yankee was on a plane to Boston to sign with the Red Sox until the NYY stopped the flight plans and matched Boston.

I will say it took a little coat off Williams' chrome ..

But that's business ... And that's all this is ...

When Murray is 43 he doesn't wanna look back say damn I shoulda taken the 25m guaranteed - would you ?

That all said ? We've handled this off season terribly.

Losing two LBs in their 20's ? One a homegrown too? Foolishness beyond comprehension .

It'll look even worse when the overrated undersized Sean Lee gets rolled and misses his usual 6 games .
