His game splits from last season are pretty horrific, and I think he is going to want to be a starter. Unless he's bringing something to special teams I'd stay away.

I am all for upgrading the position. I think Randle at best is a capable backup. I hope I am wrong. Who knows about Ryan Williams. Looked good in preseason. But there is a graveyard of running backs never to be heard from again who looked good in preseason.

I just wouldn't sniff around Chris Johnson. He hasn't passed the eye test the last few years. And bringing him in at a low salary, I think is a a recipe for disaster.

Randle was a capable backup last year because we had a workhorse who ran the ball 99.99999% of the time. You may be right about Chris Johnson, I have just reached an unspeakable desperation level with how the Cowboys have completely ignored the position that made them a dominant team last year.

With DMF's injury history and the odds of Randle stealing more underwear, it would probably be a good idea to bring in another vet to be safe.

If none of the 4 work out at the start of training camp, my bet is Will McClay will have suitable replacement on standby.

Yeah, as long as we have a solid oline.. any joe schmo can run behind this line and be successful.

Which splits are you referring to?

Of course he would want to be a starter– who wouldn't?

I'm sure he'd be good for several long TD runs given the holes he'd have, but I'm not sure he's an overall fit. And yes, his best is behind him.
Early in his career, he was actually a good short yardage back when given the chance. But not anymore...and Garret wants that.
Otherwise, yes, he'd be good for 12-1300 yards easily in this offense. He's never once played with a good QB.
That ship has probably sailed though.

I don't see a problem with kicking the tires on CJ for a training camp look. If we can get a motivated Johnson who wants to join a team at a possible chance of winning a super bowl ring then why not???

I much rather have Chris Johnson here than Ryan Williams

Randle should have had more carries last year.

He is one of these guys that you see in a very limited role and he looks good. You give him more carries and then all the sudden he doesn't look so good anymore. Just my opinion.

I think we need a little more information before pursuing Chris Johnson, although I would love to have him if he can at least pretend to be a RKG. I'm going to see Lana Del Rey Saturday night, and I would be really surprised if we are gunned down after the concert. In other words, it certainly is possible to avoid that sort of thing by hanging with a better crowd. Google "chris johnson photographed with arm in sling" to find the New York Daily News article and a picture of Chris and two of his buddies. I can't link to it due to nsfw hand signals.

He had a weapons charge against him in Florida earlier this year for having his licensed and registered gun under his seat instead of locked up in the car somewhere, but that charge was dropped. In Tennessee where he played for years, if you have a pistol permit you can carry it openly, concealed, under the seat, in the glove compartment, etc. He did give the cop permission to search his car after being pulled over for rolling through a stop sign, and I don't think that is something anyone should do. No probable cause, just fishing, so just say no, IMO.

No way. Ever since he got that contract, he has steadily declined. He has a big bag of nothing right now.

Why him over Williams?
I wouldn't. Right now I would take Williams over Johnson.

I agree, bring him in to compete. But not at the expense of another RB.
Williams is younger and the coaches really like him. I want to see how he progressed from being on the PS and in TC this year.
See how our current guys do, and the UDFA's brought in. If none of them impress to look at in TC, yes, bring in Johnson, it can't hurt.

All of the. I mean he was complaining last about getting reduced carries to Ivory later in the year. Dallas don't need that.

Bring him in! He is an upgrade over DMac. He has averaged over 4 yards a carry and has always been healthy.

He is a better alternative than DMac right now. It won't hurt at all.
