Why him over Williams?
I wouldn't. Right now I would take Williams over Johnson.

I agree, bring him in to compete. But not at the expense of another RB.
Williams is younger and the coaches really like him. I want to see how he progressed from being on the PS and in TC this year.
See how our current guys do, and the UDFA's brought in. If none of them impress to look at in TC, yes, bring in Johnson, it can't hurt.

Why not bring him in right now to compete? It can't hurt.

Randle was a capable backup last year because we had a workhorse who ran the ball 99.99999% of the time. You may be right about Chris Johnson, I have just reached an unspeakable desperation level with how the Cowboys have completely ignored the position that made them a dominant team last year.

They haven't. They drafted two more OL to add to the position that made them a dominant team last year. :)

With Chris Johnson starting and McFadden on 3rd down, we would be in pretty good shape at RB. I'll concede that I really don't even include Ryan Williams in the mix because he is like a ghost player.

Didnt they draft another OT?

Most job openings at any business across the country means bringing in all qualified candidates and narrowing it down to who's the best.

I see no difference in how we handle our RB platoon.

All of the. I mean he was complaining last about getting reduced carries to Ivory later in the year. Dallas don't need that.

I didn't think they looked that bad... especially considering what he had to work with.

Does anyone want to make the case where Darren McFadden is clearly a better option than Chris Johnson?

I'd be very interested in that debate.

Every RB in football is drooling to run behind this line.

This. You ask any RB who has the slightest chance of being an FA in the next two years and they are going to say that they want to be a Cowboy. They grew up being a Cowboy, all the rest. The Cowboys have one of the best young OLs in the NFL and probably the best run blocking unit in the League. Based on what we've seen from last year, they have committed to running the ball. Murray, a guy who was a good back (not great), went from good to League leading rusher and a 8 Million Dollar plus deal. Every back wants to be a Cowboy and every back dreamed of wearing the Star when he was 5 right now.

He is one of these guys that you see in a very limited role and he looks good. You give him more carries and then all the sudden he doesn't look so good anymore. Just my opinion.

That is the exact reason he should have had more carries. As much as we ran the ball last year, there is no reason we should be in the position we are in now with Randle. We should know exactly what we do or don't have. Unless of course he's shown enough in weekly practices to convince the coaches we're good. Considering we didn't draft a RB I'm thinking the coaching staff is satisified he can handle a bigger work load.

Very few games with over 12 carries, only one rushing td, poor up the middle. I'd much prefer Ivory over him.

But we don't have the option of Ivory.

But I'd be interested in your opinion of Johnson vs McFadden, the guy currently penciled in atop our depth chart?

Who says DMC is at the top of our depth chart?
Maybe the media and some on this board, but it's not true.
They'll battle this thing out.

If not him, then who is listed there right now? Who's the first name the front office brings up when asked about the running game?

If McFadden is anywhere in the conversation, a guy with better numbers and production in every category (Johnson) should be as well.

I'd be willing to bring him in, depending on price. He had a decent average last time he played, if I remember correctly.

Why is it that you guys talk about average on here? Very misleading stat. Dependent on many factors. Cant you just watch the guy play and know if he is good or not?

You can make a trade.

Mcfadden is younger and has a little over double the yards for his career that Cj had in his biggest year. Between the two I think Dmac has a bigger chance of getting to a 1000 yards, and he's a little better on the inside so I'd take him on his tiny contract over a guy hitting 30 moving on to his third team. But I think Randal is top of the depth chart by week two.
