The dude is emotional, but who cares? He's getting killed in the media because of "the incident" and because, even Dallas at 2-7, gets more media attention and cover stories than any other team in the NFL.

Most teams in the NFL could set records during a game, have a huge upset, but they'd still get upstaged by a tweet from Dez' pet monkey.

Let's see how he plays the rest of the year now that Romo is back and teams actually have to force the issue.

"Incidents"

If they are going to keep him for the season/$5 million.... Put a picture of the woman on all the future QBs ... Release the kraken.

Call it a day.

I think I have a very different definition of "leadership", "beautiful footballs", "good football team", and "unacceptable" than the Joneses.

Agree. He is over the legal issues, and his record has been expunged. Many in the media don't comprehend what that means, and want to pile on from a personal to Hardy, hate the Cowboys , I'll get clicks and my editor will be happy perspective...

The blaming the media angle is so strange at this point unless you believe that the Jones' family gets all their Hardy news from the media.

Don't you find it strange that 4 weeks ago, Jones told everyone he wanted to sign Hardy to a long term extension and then just two days ago, he tells the media that an extension is not a given and that Hardy has to live up to some expectations put in place by Dallas?

Reality is, it's not just a media creation here. The front office now has some concerns with Hardy that they will watch for the remainder of the season.

Do you think Jerry is swayed by the media?

Because a few weeks ago he was saying he definitely wanted Hardy back and then just this week, he's basically backed off that stance.

What that tells me is that this isn't a media creation........... Hardy has done things that have given the front office suddenly a reason to pause.

Why not? He was swayed by it in the whole Randy Moss fiasco.

This is why fans have to be very careful or take with a grain of salt glowing, on-the-record statements about a guy being a team player, particularly when there are questions about the player. Cris Carter reported that Hardy had similar run-ins and fights with teammates in Carolina. But all we heard was how "great" of a teammate he was.
And now these reports.

Again - patterns. People can't escape the patterns and habits that define their lifestyles. You may be able to hide them temporarily, but unless there's a radical change in a person's life, those patterns tend to re-establish themselves. This is just a basic principle of life.

Having said all that, Hardy isn't going anywhere this season. And I'm not even sure the Cowboys don't retain him next season. Teams will "endure" players with talent. It's the reason Joseph Randle is no longer on the Cowboys roster, and Adrian Peterson is on the Vikings roster.

But Hardy needs to be careful and very circumspect because, as I heard a minister once say, "Talent can take you where integrity (or lack thereof) can't keep you."

Hey, I wanted to step through the TV screen and slap that notepad out of the ST coaches hand too!

We tie the game with a minute or left and then give up a 103 yard kickoff return to basically close the game?
Hard to make that stuff up.

Aside from this OP topic, I think people forget just how many of those last 7 games came literally to one or two plays.

Hardy has been the only semblance of a pass rusher, that is one big reason why they should want him back. Gregory, Lawrence, etc. haven't proven anything.

Absolutely, Hardy had been the only reliable pass rushing threat. When the game is on the line, though, he has had very little positive impact; I see no reason to fall all over myself (as a GM) trying to re-sign him.

So, what is the scenario we are supposed to consider? I read through the chat and didn't really see any scenario presented.

I think the scenario is that Hardy knows he has to play and be on his best behavior for that next big contract and despite that, he continues to do things that now have clearly given the front office a reason to back off the extension chatter. So if this is his "best behavior" as Laufenberg puts it, what's he going to act like when he gets his big contract and doesn't have to worry about his next pay day?

He's getting killed in the media because he plays for the Dallas Cowboys. The incident just gives the media an excuse. Meanwhile, it's readily apparent that anybody that reads the case with open eyes can see that the media narrative is grossly inaccurate. What we do have an accurate account on is Adrian Peterson beating a 4-year old child so bad that it left permanent scars on the child and that even the most ardent believers in corporal punishment think he went over the line.

Yet, there are no demands that he be banned from the league. In fact, he spent less time off from the game than Hardy.

I fully believe that if Peterson had come to Dallas and Hardy went to Minnesota, Hardy would not be facing this amount of scrutiny and this scrutiny would instead go to Peterson and they would now be calling for Peterson to be banned.

I think the team is a bit in a wait-and-see mode and is more likely wondering if this plays out more like T.O. or if it plays out more like Josh Brent. If you recall, a team official actually said that the team didn't have a problem with TO as a teammate or a player or his behavior. But whether they liked it or not, the media was so much after the guy that it became a distraction regardless of what he did.

I think they are waiting to see how that plays out with Hardy this year. If it starts to die down or not.

Missed meetings could happen for a variety of valid reasons. He may have gotten the okay because he may have had some personal matter to attend to. He may have gotten the okay because he was rehabbing injuries instead (remember, he got hurt in the Seahawks game which is partly why he hasn't quite been himself). He may have been rehabbing and missed the meeting and the coaching staff wasn't on the same page and then they found out he was rehabbing and they were fine with it because they would have been okay with it if they knew beforehand.

This stuff happens all of the time all across the league. Just the Dallas media loves to jump to conclusions and treat them as fact.

Don't get me wrong...I disagree with this tact that Jerry and Rich Dalrymple use. They can't allow the media to dictate how the organization does things. If you have a great player and he is drawing unwanted attention over something that happened over a year ago and is doing really nothing wrong in continuing this distraction....then Jerry and Dalrymple need to do their job and diffuse this nonsense. Otherwise nothing every changes for the better and the media will just sink their claws into whatever player they feel they can make a media circus out of.

Why not? He was swayed by it in the whole Randy Moss fiasco.

That was more Chan Gailey and WR coach Dwain Painter. They basically talked him out of drafting him because he was a "bad character guy" to take Mack Brown's babysitter Greg Ellis.

Even Jim Garrett and Walt Yowarsky were jumping on the table for Moss.

People that are suggesting that Jerry is using the media to lower Hardy's asking price must not know who his agent is. Their is a price tag for a person of his abilities...either you want to pay it or you don't. When you make a conscious decision to construct a team that is HEAVILY reliant on superstars....and ride those superstars(we put the ball in Murrays hands almost 500 times last year then did not want to pay him) as opposed to challenging your coaches to utilize the entire roster and put ALL of players in position to be successful.....playing hardball with these superstar and insinuating you can win with "anyone behind this OL".....you lack an understanding of your team.

Pretty poor analogy. Jones never had Moss employed on his team. He's now seen Hardy up close and personal.

Well, he also saw Michael Irvin up close and personal too who had character issues at the time too, but he was a play maker. I think this idea that Hardy has crossed some line that warranted Jerry to take a step back to long term signing in not even two months of play is pure speculation that is based only on how he has been presented in the media.

And yet, Jerry gets in front of a microphone two days ago and clearly states that in order to get an extension Hardy has to live up to expectations put in place by the team. This less than a month after he was saying they absolutely wanted him back on an extension. Two months ago, when the media reported that he had missed a practice, the Cowboys quickly announced it was an excused absence. Media reports he missed a practice last week and Stephen says they don't talk about internal matters and then Jerry comes out and says it wasn't only Hardy but some others and it would be unfair to just single out Hardy. So he basically confirmed what was reported. Hardy missed a meeting and it wasn't excused. If it had been, I suspect the Cowboys, like they did before, would have announced it was excused.

The idea that this is a media creation is bizarre. Jones and the front office see Hardy every single day, up close. They know who and what he is better than any media member, so why the hell would they make decisions based on what the media says?

And at this point it's clear that Hardy has made the front office think a bit harder about extending him and that while one incident itself isn't an issue, the constant need to deal with Hardy, even over minor incidents, is starting to add up.

They very well may extend him. No one really knows. But it's pretty obvious now that if Hardy continues to have some sideline issues, misses or is late for meetings, or has some other issues, it's unlikely he's coming back. Jones' statement two days ago pretty much made that clear.

You know - the second he ever asks for help in his personal life is the day that perception of him changes and that includes Jerry and Stephen. Until he extends himself to try and better himself I think he's going to be gone.

Teams are swayed by media all the time. They are also swayed by he agenda of the NFL.

Why didn't Jerry bash the NFL over the punishment the gave him for signing players during the Un-capped year? From what I read, even Danny boy was more livid than Jerry.
