DMN: Laufenberg: Think Greg Hardy's a problem now? Consider this scenario

Hardy is gone, unless we see some major turn around in ON THE FIELD production, there no justification in keeping him.

lets see what Hardy looks like with lead. The guy literally walked into one of worst playing situations in recent memory. I am not advocating for guy but saying lets just see what this all looks like with full team.

I don't see how anyone could believe Jerry and Stephen want Hardy back next season. Randy Gregory should be the projected starter at RE in 2016.

I don't see how anyone could think that they don't. They have a bad pass rush and Hardy is one of the best in the league and one of the best even coming off a year off from football. Would they break the bank for him? I don't think so. Long term? I don't think so either. A nice deal? I think so.

Jeebus! The media has been trying to crucify this guy since he signed with us. I don't remember this much outrage when he was a free agent.

charles haley had interesting comments to say yesterday. Said half of current team doesn't care if they win or lose. Said Hardy was of the group that takes it personal to win. Don't be so fast to run those types of guys off roster. I would atleast listen to his agent.

I am not sure it will be a money reason he might not be back. Unless of course he prices himself way too high.

I think if Hardy is allowed to walk, it will be because the Jones have concerns about Hardy.

Well, I think they are media creations. First it was domestic abuser Hardy saying "crass" comments about the beauty of Brady's wife, a woman who essentially gets paid millions of dollars to help sell a product by exposing the beauty of her body. Then it was the 'angry and uncontrollable' (a description in line with domestic abuser) Hardy getting into it with a coach even though he was clearly frustrated that the special teams choked against the Giants. Then it was disrespectful and not a good teammate Hardy arriving late for work once and missing a few meetings as a result. Also, on game day, it seems like the commentators show no qualms about further emphasizing these things if he shows any emotions on the field.

So your belief is that the Jones family really has no idea about any issues surrounding Hardy and instead get all their information from the media?

You really can't be that naive.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that the Cowboys have reached the point where Hardy can't have a few more sideline blowups or fail to show up for meetings if he wants to resign here long term.

No, my belief is that media can be a distraction, so what can be perceived as "indecision" if it exists at all, may not be due to Hardy's behavior. Public perception generated by the media and all the possible negative ramifications that can come with it for the players, team, and organization as a whole, can distract from the main goal of the team. It is a question of whether it is worth it to have one player to affect the rest of the team. Frankly, I think granting the media this power, even unintentionally, is stupid. But it is what it is and is only magnified when the team is losing.

If the Cowboys were worried about a distraction, they would have never signed Hardy to begin with. They would have had to have been galactically stupid to not know his signing would bring ridiculous scrutiny from the media. That the media would watch Hardy's every step. That they'd report every single infraction, regardless of how minor it might be. So unless they are stupid, they knew this was going to happen and were willing to take it on anyway.

At this point, I think it's pretty clear that even the Jones' family has a line in the sand that Hardy can't cross. And he's been nudging closer and closer to it to the point the front office isn't sure he's worth a long term headache. Basically, these last 7 games (hopefully more) of this season are a tryout for Hardy both on and off the field.

He leads the team in sacks, 4 in 5 games.
That is a 13 or so a season avg.
Id take that next year. He hasn't peaked yet either.

Your sarcasm fails to account for the constant pressure he puts on the QB. He doesn't have to have multiple sack games to be doing an elite job.

LOL

Oh, so now during a lack of sacks the last two games, you trot out the word "pressure." Yes, all that pressire. that was a determining factor in our win Sunday. Yes, I see.
I salute him for his continuing elite job.

LOL

Do yoself a favor and do not espend too much loyalty on this . . . batterer. The consensus here is that he will not be back, Jack.:)

No one knows how much scrutiny and distraction the media will bring. They are their own separate, independent entity driven by their own need for profits. JJ has been willing to take that risk in the past in certain cases and see how it goes. But, the scrutiny received is different for each player depending upon the infraction(s) committed, and obviously the team the player belongs to. I don't think I've witnessed more scrutiny on a player than Hardy for a single infraction that had a number of gray areas and was eventually legally expunged. Maybe TO caused more media scrutiny and distractions, but TO had multiple issues with two teams prior to joining the Cowboys.

Obviously, if JJ is "gung-ho" in the beginning, but isn't exhibiting as much enthusiasm after the team has suffered seven straight losses to fall to 2-7, people who are on the outside looking in are going to interpret it in different ways and speculation will arise. But there can be a multitude of reasons for not being so, which may or may not be in agreement with what is suggested by many members of the media, whose job nowadays seems to simply push and reinforce their own agenda.

No offense, but you are being naive. Everyone who had even a little shred of common sense knew that signing Hardy was going to bring ridiculous scrutiny to the Cowboys. It was discussed here ad nauseum when the Cowboys were linked to Hardy.

You guys can continue to trick yourselves into blaming the media for all of this. I tend to think the Jones family and front office isn't as stupid and easily swayed by the big bad media as you think they must be.

Who do you think flushed out Winston at the end of the game when he fumbled the ball? Without the holding call... game over, we win.

With Romo back it's a new season so as hard as you may try to rain on it, it won't work. Hardy is still elite.

Slapping the clipboard.... I dont know. Thats over the line. I am tired of catering to "ohhh so talented players with passion and personality". I think I might of cut him right then and there.

Would you rather he pushed a coach or fought someone on the sideline like Clinton-Dix did?
He has a passion for the game like Haley even described. Better than Weeden or Michael yucking it up and laughing after losing. Give me nasty guys that take this losing streak personal. Also, if the Michael rors are true, expect Hardy to be on point this Sunday.

I said it in the last game thread and I stand by it, I am convinced now that Hardy isn't a good guy. That said, it seems like every time this team brings someone in that's fiery and intense, that person doesn't get along with the rest of the team. I think that says a lot more about the attitude and make-up of this team than those players, Hardy included.

This team is soft. Period.

They may not be swayed by the media so easily, but the fact that Jerry Jones isn't all gung-ho anymore about discussing Hardy's contract status after the year just because the media says he was tardy also doesn't mean that his position has changed and Hardy did something bad and is now on a short leash either. That was my initial point and is pure speculation. There's a lot of factors that go into these things.

very good point. And I imagine the coaches/organization struggles with that too.......

I think Hardy is a beast. I want Hardy on my team.

But there is a line, when all that enegry, is more detrimental then it is good. I think TO made this team worse.

I cant imagine what Belicheck would do to a player if that happened on his sideline; Im not ready to give up on him yet, but its getting real close..... and I think many are getting to that point too. And it seems like Hardy is either totally obliviousd to his siutation, or ............just doesnt care..... either way, its not good...

What Babe said is what I reported was talked about on the Ticket 3 weeks back when David Moore discussed "he is on his best behavior, imagine what will happen when he isn't." I got ripped for reporting it. So Babe get your own material and I've already commented on it enough. Don't want to get in trouble.:)

the thing is he's no Charles Haley

to me he not worth the headache
