OK, let's take the n-word out of the equation. Still, regardless of your culture, the homosexual slur isn't generally something high-profile people can say with a camera in front of their face and not have a negative outcry.

No matter your point of view, this video was done in very poor taste.

No one's mad that a black man rapped. People are upset that a Dallas Cowboy dropped all kinds of words that are generally considered bad -- and did so while wearing a damn autographed Cowboys helmet, no less.

Also, for the poster that referenced the ridiculous Barbie Carpenter video -- yeah, he just looked like a darn fool doing that. But had he cussed up a storm, talked about Jerry Jones' money, and rhymed Romo with the homosexual slur, the reaction would have been much different.

This video certainly isn't the end of the world. And I'll give you that he's basically a "kid," although I question at what age we cut off that term as a defense of poor decisions.

But while it's largely harmless, it's still ridiculously stupid and just adds to the long list of embarrassments that continue to seep out of Valley Ranch. I'll agree that what he did isn't the sort of thing that truly offends people, but it is an embarrassment.

First it was culture but now it's his youth? I'm having trouble keeping track of all your excuses for aberrant, anti-social behavior. Or maybe you think that anything short of a crime is acceptable. If there was any off-season in recent memory that cried out for "low profile" actions, it was this one.

Hmmm.

Compared to what's out there, Google Me is pretty tame. It's offensive, but not overly so. He restricted it to an audio format and kept any franchise visuals out of it, so that's a plus in his favor in my opinion.

However, Freestyles|Get Money should get his arse kicked. Expressing yourself is fine, but keep the franchise out of it. I doubt that Jerry Jones will come down on him hard because of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't strongly "emphasize" that Bennett "reimburse" him for the use of his franchise's logo within a video since he is a paid employee of the franchise.

That would be sweet. Of course, it won't matter to Bennett. He's a hardarse, plain and simple. Some people just are.

Now, on a personal note, it's very frustrating to hear the use of the N word in music, rap, hiphop, whatever. Rappers are some of the most imaginative people on this planet. Why they continue to use the word as a crutch when it's not necessary in the slightest in order to earn millions is, quite frankly, unfathomable.

Even so, I'm almost willing to overlook the use of it if it were used in moderation, but the one thing I will never condone is the use of the B word in music. It denigrates women to sheer nothingness. Even the N word holds some value. The saddest thing about the B word is that a whole generation of men continue to use it and some women have accepted it as who they are. In other words, they accept that some men consider them to be of zero worth and that's just as wrong as it is painfully sad.

Hopefully, any female who finds herself attracted to Bennett and is perhaps blinded by the dollar signs will have had the opportunity to hear how he addresses women. I feel that would save themselves some pain of getting caught up and finding out too late how he really feels.

Oh well. 2009 has all the makings of a negative media frenzy of epic proportions with Terrell Owens and now Martellus Bennett willing to lead the way. Yee haw.

Oh, Bennett is without a doubt highly talented, comical and quite charming in many interviews. He also comes across quite intelligent in how he's able to turn phrases and describe what occurred on the field.

Which makes this video that much more stupid. This isn't some ignormaous that doesn't know better, IMO. He's young, yes, but not a dolt. He made a bad decision.

It's by no means the end of the world. He will, after all, probably learn. It's just that these embarrassments never stop.

It's one small -- sometimes not so small -- thing after another. From Irvin's reality show, to T.O.'s, to Jerry's funny shirt to Bennett's rap, to Pacman's never-ending drama, to...and so on. It truly doesn't stop.

You can say the media eats us alive. But we continue to provide them reasons to. This franchise makes their job sooo easy.

Bennett doesn't deserve to be crucified for this, but I also don't think he needs any apologists on this matter.

It is what it is. A bad decision -- albeit one with essentially no harm committed -- that provides this franchise another embarrassment.

What gets me is the greater context of his rap and how it adds to the list of unwanted attention. What's next, Jason Witten growing a 'stache and starring in a porno? Bobby Carpenter undergoing a sex change? Tony Curtis making waves for more playing time?

The most ignorant thing about you defending him is that you are trying to say it was done in the 'spur of the moment'.

It wasn't.

It was a thought out process.

He thought about the lyrical content.

He thought about the helmet being in the video to rep the Cowboys.

He thought about the bottle of champagne.

He thought about doing all this and then putting it on the largest video sharing website in the world.

This wasn't done in a the blink of an eye where his excuse could be that he 'wasn't thinking for a split second'.

It's more to the fact that he had a plan and then followed thru with the plan.
