DMN: Message to Spears?

Yeah, they told him backups play mop up time. For every Spears, Parcells drafted a Hatcher or Ratliff. I think his draft record has been pretty good. Look what he started with.

NO cupcakes FO U

what about the spencer apologists? he's did squat tonight

I hyped Spears up-and-down this board prior to Dallas drafting him and I'm dang disappointed at the to-date yield. I honestly thought he had all the tools for the 3-4 end spot. It's a helluva thing to guess wrong in the early rounds - but it happens every year.

Sure hope the kid catches lightning before Dallas is forced to make a decision on him.

I'll do ya 1 better. I did it for BOTH Spears and Carp when i was on the -Forum Maybe i'm just a homer? Although my heart sank when we didn't take Jackson.

If Spears flops we can officially consider the number 96 a curse on DEs picked in the first round for the Cowboys.

1994: Shante Carver wore #96
1999: Ebenezer Ekuban wore # 96
2005: Marcus Spears wears # 96

I admit to thinking the same thing when I saw him out there.

He's barely made a play against backups, either.

And one more thing, Hatcher looked great rushing the passer.

yep hatcher looked healthy which is all I cared about.

He looked really quick off the ball.

Marcus spears just turns me off, I really have soured on him more than any other player. It all started when I listened to his tuesday night radio show with brad sham last year and he said the defense was too hard and no one else has to do what they do around the league.

BOO friggin HOO

he needs to play extrodinary this year for me to even care about him. He better play the run well because he is going to lose his job by the time we go to chicago if hatcher is healthy.

Stephen bowen looked quick tonight also.

I forgot to mention it in the thread I just put up, but you're right, Theebs, Bowen did look good.

I'm with you on Spears. He's quickly becoming one of the very few players on this team that I don't like at all. And I remember praying for teams to not take him as we got down to #20 in the draft... I was really excited when we got him.:

But yeah, something about his attitude just stinks. He needs to show something, pronto.

Let's see...we give up a shot at Steven Jackson for Julius and Marcus. Anyone like to take a mulligan on that one?

I read today in SI where an opposing scout said Jackson will challenge LT over the next few years as the most productive back in the game  since he has the best hands of any back in the league and he avoids the big hits. :bang2:

Jackson also has bad BAD OLs look GREAT-like he did at Oregon State.

Being a longtime LSU fan-Spears was a beast during his playing days there. Why he hasn't panned up in the NFL is beyond me. A bust, yeah. But WHO could have foresaw this?:banghead:

maybe we should move spears to nt or maybe he just does not fit the 3-4 and would be better suited as an inside 4-3 guy

He was under Nick Saban's system in college-can't see why he's not a 3-4 guy.

I was saying it last year at this time and I'm saying it again, Spears would be better off at NT.

Classic case of giving up a great player for 2 average players. Sometimes trading down is good, but sometimes you just have to take the guy that has superstar potential. Hope we aren't saying this about our last draft, lol, even though I really didn't want Quinn.

We know about Spears, but man I hope we don't have another in the making in Spencer. He is so invisible out there, he is still young and learning, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt right now. But if those two can't dominate guys who will bagging groceries next week, well, that isn't too exciting.

Remember guys that BP was NOT going to pick Jackson; he wanted Kevin Jones. No matter what your fantasy's were, we were never going to get Jackson.
