Exactly. Your heard "a segment" where they are updating what the current status is.

You aren't seeing this issue lead SportsCenter. You aren't seeing it on the nightly network news. It isn't being discussed by the cable news talking heads. There are no headlines in the papers (outside this region). It isn't getting endless hours of airplay on sports radio. No one is calling for the commissioner to be fired. The president isn't talking about it.

The Greg Hardy situation is nothing more than "a segment" on ESPN. That's what the league wants.

This is a story that has gone on for over a year. It's been on and off the front page. It will be on the front page again. If this is what the NFL wants, then I think I see the problem here. This is not going to go away, nor is it going to be forgotten by the NFLPA or the players.

When you see through the league's P R exercise the only conclusion is that the NFL is not being genuine about the subject. It is obvious to everyone that if no-one sees the Rice video, Hardy plays last year and is still a Panther.

This apparent abuse of power from the league is fooling nobody with an IQ approaching triple digits. It is wrong. Whatever Hardy has admitted to the commissioner, it is obviously just a 2 game offense or he would be in jail already. They screwed the pooch with Rice last year, and they are making Hardy pay for it. Explain to me how that is right.

You contradict yourself. You say they "screwed the pooch" with Ray Rice last year. But you also say whatever Hardy did "it is obviously just a 2 game offense or he would be in jail already."

Given that Rice never went to jail, how do you reconcile those 2 contradictory statements?

You are right, bad choice of words. The criminal courts would have dealt with it appropriately whether that meant jail time or probation or whatever. The NFL, obviously grabbing at straws, decided to take one incident and divide it in to four to make him look worse, and their image look better.

Regardless, they have found a scapegoat, and used an ugly off the field incident to benefit their own public image. It is classless. And it doesn't help anyone in the long run.

Dropped charges because the victim got paid not to cooperate =/= being "absolved" by the law.

The NFL is going to continue covering their ***** here. There's virtually zero bad publicity in over-punishing and later losing in court. But, as they found out last year, it is a PR nightmare to under-punish a guy who engaged in domestic violence.

but random speculation as to motive is allowed. i swear to god some people love to take away speculation with speculation.

it's as if "my speculation is right, yours is wrong" is a valid argument. anywhere.

I think that's a little naive. After what they went through last year with Ray Rice, it is perfectly reasonable to understand why the league has the philosophy going forward "we can't let that happen again because it genuinely hurt us with all the negative PR. We genuinely lost fans over that."

you mean they're not losing any by being overly anal also? i'm a lot less interested in their ******** that:

1) is not consistent from event to event
2) takes things further than the established law of the land
3) allows public emotions to dictate how players are treated
4) seems to target off todays perception with no real interest in solving the problem, only the negative PR.

to think otherwise, just as naive.

If Hardy was signed by any other team, you wouldn't give a crap about any of these things.

That statement applies to just about 99.9% of the faux outrage we see on this board.

what a convenient ******** blanket statement you can apply to anyone who doesn't see it the way you do. for you to imply this about me i'll simply say you can go "please" yourself.

straight to ignore - i got no time for someone who tells people how they feel.

Apparently the truth hurts some people - very much.

Don't get pissy just because you can't handle it. I've said all along the problem when fans of a certain team feel they are getting screwed is the fans of the 31 other teams don't give a crap. If anything, depending on the team getting screwed, they enjoy it.

If Hardy was signed by any other team, no one in this forum would care how fairly or unfairly the league was treating him. And if he was signed by Philly or the Giants, we'd all be laughing about it.

You can make that statement for yourself, not for anyone else.

he can. he can say what happened in the trial and it must be true, he can say how the "witness" was paid off and it must be true...and if you disagree with him, you are just a homer. i think the people who actually know me, know better. and if you don't know me by now...roogah will never never never know me...

Full disclosure, there was a lot of traffic over this subject before the Cowboys ever signed Hardy so I don't think it's fair to say that there would have been no interest because the facts do not support that. Would there still be interest to the level we are currently seeing on this board? That is at least debatable but that too is subjective. The truth is that we will never know.

Agree to disagree and move on IMO. That statement can't be proven so it can't be stated as anything other then opinion.
