Do the WR math

Let's say that Dallas cuts Dez and is hoping to replace him with a draft pick. Let's take a look at the first round receivers from the past several years and let me know if any of these guys excites you?

2017:
7. Mike Williams.
9. John Ross

2016:
15. Corey Coleman
21. Will Fuller
22. Josh Docton
23. Laquon Treadwell

2015:
4. Amari Cooper
14. Devante Parker
20. Nelson Agholor
26. Breshad Perryman
29. Phillip Dorsett

I really think that taking a receiver at 19 would be a horrible idea. I know that it was posted in other threads the % of routes that Dez ran last year. 29% was a 9 route. Coincidentally, he ran a comeback at 3%, really!!?? 3%? That is a great compliment route if you are constantly running the 9 Route. If Dez stays, and I hope he does, let's hope that this new Dak friendly offense is also Dez friendly too.
If, by chance, the do cut Dez, they have already proven that they don't plan to fully replace him with a rookie.
They already added Hurns and Thomas. A rookie would just be in addition to that.

Having said that, I'd prefer to wait until > Rd1 to take a WR

Nonsense, it happens literally every year on multiple teams.

I think Thompson will get a good chance to make the team because he has more to offer than just being a camp body, but you are right that every free agent signed is not a lock.

I cannot recall the last time it happened with this team when they gave the free agent a bonus/guaranteed money. Thompson got a $1 million signing bonus. He is making this roster this year.

I think that is a colossal mistake to assume that either one of those guys would be our number #1 WR. I know that is not what you are saying, but that would be awful if they are thinking that way.

I suspect we add rookie and cut dez

Thompson and brown probly competing for last spot. Thompson brings speed element we lack, but the team seemed to like brown and his run blocking and physicality. Not sure if keeping 7 is a possibility.
Thompson is Brice, he has speed but his hands are 50/50 at best.

I don't think they are.
I was just addressing first year contribution expectations from a rookie WR. If we were looking for total contribution in year one of some they drafted that hoped would be a the future #1 (Ridley for example) they would expect Hurns and Thompson added to that rookie to fill the temporary production loss of a Dez.
So total contribution of Rookie+Hurns+Thompson would need need to match or exceed expected contribution from Dez....and that assumes ongoing contribution from others

Linehan's offense and Beasley being doubled on 3rd down hurt Dak. Other team's defenses figured out how to stop Dak without
Zeke.
So the one who should be targeted is Linehan and Beasley...or really just Linehan...
Yet here all these folks are allowing JG, Linehan and company to blame Dez to save their own butts, and you are carrying there pail for them.

I've already eliminated Brown from that list of our candidates. He's an excellent blocker but beyond that, I'm not really impressed. Thomas got here with Brown's limitations in mind, imho. He'll get the staff's nod over Brown or else, they most likely wouldn't have acquired Thomas in the first place.

This kind of comment is way off base to me, and way too often used. It treats the Dak situation as if it is all about finding a scapegoat, and has nothing to do with Dez's contract.

Hell, we don't even know that Dez is going to be cut - but why wait to b1tch at the team, because if he doesn't get cut we will have missed the chance!

It's ridiculous some fans don't seem to understand there are business reasons that factor into these kinds of things as well. OF course, I don't think some fans care to understand. Some prefer to think there is a little conspiracy within the Cowboys coaching staff to find a scapegoat.

Nice try.. but read the threads on this board and you will see how much venom is spewed at Dez and how much at the coaches.
It’s funny how this time last year no one was crying about Dezs contract or numbers.

Suddenly you have a coach in philly winning super bowls with backup QBs and Dak struggling and it must be Dezs fault..pathetic. When your entire WR Corp struggles at the same time maybe you should peel back a layer and look deeper.

Dez had The same numbers as Alshon Jeffery last year. 1 guy gets a Super Bowl ring and a fat contract, the other guy get a heavy finger pointed at him...
Weird isn’t it?
