The 5 year option thing is so ridiculous IMO. Not getting an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick just so you can have an extra year on a contract is stupid thinking. I would do it if a team offered something valuable

In this case I'll go along and say yes, move down. Unless they go OL in the 1st. Then you'll want max affordability due to position.

It's a smart draft to trade down in, if you can get value for doing it. You give up a 5th year option, but you probably don't lose much in terms of the quality of players you're selecting from.

I wouldn't have any problem with it in theory, if they didn't move down too far.

That costs you the pick, plus $10MM in cap space. When you ought to be able to get a comparable player just by sitting tight. Right after you just passed on the opportunity to add good CBs with no trade required in free agency. Why do that?

I would not mind it if we can get good value, and we don't think anyone at 28 is worth it. Maybe a Frederick type guy falls, if we don't feel like we can get a starter , or future starter at 28, I would move. Trust me I live for the draft, but getting an extra two or three, that would make day two exciting...just no one that's hurt, all I ask.

it's not stupid, Zach Martin is playing this upcoming year on the fifth year club option......or would you rather him as a free agent with no cap room to sign him....the fifth year option is huge for teams...

The Patriots don't have an amazing history with first round picks so why would we follow their lead?

The Pats are built with players all throughout the draft and UDFA.

I am firmly against trading out of the first unless it's a deal we can't refuse or if our board makes sense (example: the best players on the board are a QB, RB and C). I believe that fifth year option is a big deal.

Much depends on how the Boys set up their board and how many they have 1st round grades. If one of the guys (15-20) that they have 1st round grades fall to to 28 then I believe they take him regardless of position.

If not, they could trade down if a team wants to come up. Remember most club really value that 5th year option so that alone overvalues the trade. It would not be out of the question for say Cleveland to give 33 and 65 to move up to 28 say for a QB.
