Do we follow the Pats and trade out of 1st rd?

I'm expecting the Browns to trade them 2 #1s for jimmy.

That would be stupid. You're rebuilding your team. Draft a quarterback and let him grow with your young team. New England backup don't tend to do as well when you move them out of the system.

Engram is better than Njoku and it isn't close IMO.

I'd take him at 28 and never look back. Dude would be scary in this offense.
With the state of our defense you have people advocating for offense with our best pick.

Shameful.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We're not New England, so attempting to follow their gameplan isn't going to do anything for us. If we had an organization that knew how to find gems in the later rounds consistently, then I'd consider a trade down. With us, 2nd rounders are thrwoaway picks. The only pick who has stuck around, and even his status can be shaky at times due to injuries is Sean Lee. When he's healthy, he's one of the best players in the game. On the other hand, it's hard to know if he'll finish a season. All of the other second rounders are no longer in this organization or about to be shipped out, whether it be Escobar, Bennett, Bruce Carter, etc.

Unless some great player slips on defense, I'm inclined to just go offense and make this offense as dominant as possible. We're at the bottom of the draft, and we're nowhere near one player away from creating a tough defense. The 1st round is the one round where we've been great... so my plan? If some great TE or WR slips, grab them unless some gem on defense happens to slip. I'm not going to draft for defense just because.

I agree. This draft is DEs, CBs and Safeties. But I don't see any Reggie Whites, Deion Sanders or Ed Reeds falling to #28. But if John Ross or OJ Howard fall to us, I'd be on them so fast, Flash would be left at the starting line.

Those two players (assuming Ross stays healthy) would make our offense even more dynamic. Then we can fill the rest of the rounds with corners, edge rushers and safeties.

Like Cowboys fans crying for more free agency big splash moves when they blew up in Jerry's face pretty much every time from 1996-2011.

To me this is the perfect draft to trade out unless Derek Barnett falls to them.
Very deep draft with little top end all pro quality, but tons of very good prospects.

If Coach Belichick could come with them, yes. But I doubt that roster and this coaching staff would lead to a championship. JMO.

Not a chance.

We've had better rosters then the PAtriots.

To be fair... 1 of the problems that we face that they don't is we actually play in a competitive division and they have their tickets punched to the playoffs every year by default.

If a player we feel is a must, then take him at 28. If not, trade down and pick up value. I have zero problem with this actually.

The Patriots win % in their division and out of it are virtually identical. >70% for both. They dunk on the rest of the NFL just as much as they dunk on the Jets or whoever.

This is normal procedure for the Patriots who have always believed that it is rare to obtain value on a 1st round pick's first contract. They are believers in achieving value and will typically send their 1st round for another team's 2nd or 3rd combined with next year's 1st....so they can do it again.

In the five drafts from 2009 to 2013, the Patriots had 4 #1's, 12 #2's, and 8 #3's.....24 picks in the top 3 rounds for those five drafts combined when they would normally have gotten 15.

....In case you wonder how they can maintain their winning trends for so long.

You never know till draft day and I'm okay with any option you never know a steal may drop down to us.
Or there may be nothing exciting there and nobody to trade down with at that point you just go BPA.
Honestly I hope somebody gives us an offer to trade down that we just can't refuse we could fill a lot of holes in this draft

I would love to spend our 28 on Malcom Butler

Not me. You lose the 1st rd pick and he will cost much more. You can control the 1st rd pick for 5 years, too if you choose. I don't think there's much special about Butler to invest that amount of assets. There will be DBs in the draft much cheaper and of comparable talent.

Interesting move on their part.

So does this mean the talent at #28 is also not a sure thing.

Is a trade back coming and if so..

for whom?

Over-valuing #28 has to be avoided.

Opinions?

They value that 5th year option and there will be talent to be had at #28.
