Do you keep Garrett

Fair enough. I will give you Garrett/Arizona.

To be perfectly honest with you. I wanted it this way.

I wanted EVERYTHING to be on the line.
The last game of the season.
Against the Giants.

The Cowboys of 00's and now '11 and on have yet to show their mettle!

Get in!
Get it on!
Get it done!

I would actually feel worse if it was locked up and these frakkin players were just waiting for next game.

NOW, its do or die. Better to go into playoffs after really beating Giants and getting in.

Well, obviously it's nice to still to be in a position to make the playoffs, but the coaches have let this team down a few times and that ties back in to the question OP asked to start the thread.

It's hard enough to win in this league when your own coaching is NOT compromising your chances. I don't care if we have the best coach in the entire league. Rick Carlisle is not the best coach in the NBA, but he put his team in a position to help them win over and over again during the Mavs playoff run last year. That's all we need here really. We have some pretty darn good players, regardless of the excuses about the roster that people want to make in order to shamelessly defend their hopes for Garrett.

Of course you keep him. If we blow a 4th quarter lead it'll most likely be because of our poor defense. They simply lack the talent to play well for 60 minutes.

Your post is a moot one.

You could probably find one error from each and every coach in the league that cost their team atleast one game this year. Ok, so maybe not every coach but more than just Garrett.

Despite Garrett's goofs or great play calls that were executed = WE ARE IN POSITION TO GET IN - JUST WIN!

We have great players but I do have to questiont some of them and their overall football ability, their playing 60 minutes ability.

Enough about the coaches - players play. They need to do a better job of it.

Yes we have some really good players, but we also have some really bad players. Also :laugh2: @ the Mavs/Carlisle comparison. The Mavs had the deepest team in the league which is why they won. The Cowboys have no depth whatsoever.

And Jason Garrett has had to make do without the benefit of a real NFL offseason and the training period that allows.

True...and, I might add, Jerry needs to buy Garrett a new watch!

Actually, the Mavs bench was full of retreads and players that other teams did not want. The coaches got the most out of them. They supposed to lose to the Blazers in 6 according to everyone.

Garrett was an awful NFL player and I'm pretty sure he does nothing to make Romo a better QB. That's a shame.

 not again

Yes. And hire Sparano.

He was so successful in Miami, after all. They couldn't deal with the success and had to fire him.

/sarcasm off.

Actually, I would hire Sparano as OL coach and running game coordinator. He did a good job for us in 2006/7.

A better question for you is, which one of these would hurt more?

1. Another 4th quarter collapse and loss that leads to his firing?

2. The Commanders hire him, draft a QB and win Super Bowls?

I'd be okay with the first option.

What makes you think Danny S. would fire Shanny and hire the RHG ?

To be honest, I wouldn't have ever hired him and he's done nothing to make me think he deserves the position since, so I'm not sure I'd hesitate for one second firing him.

Garrett wasn't an aweful player, he was pretty decent backup QB. Great players rarely ever make great HC or manger while number of mediocre players became great HCs or Managers in NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL

Oh it should be pretty clear that Garrett hasn't done much to help this team from a coaching perspective, so I was just trying to figure out if he has any value whatsoever here. That answer is probably no.

He hasn't accidentally shot one of the players or traded away Romo and Ware, so I guess we have that going for us...

You've made that point several times, and it's a fair point. We're all entitled to what we think makes someone qualified to be HC. My question to you is, what makes someone deserving? Previous success as HC? Better success as an assistant? Please note that I mean this in all due respect, and am not trying to incite anything. Just interested in your opinion (and anyone else's for that matter).

19-0 seasons.

I'm not even half joking.

If there was a coach like Andy Reid available, I'd help pack Garrett's things. I want to give Garrett the benefit of the doubt though. Although, the truth is he's been here five years already and still hasn't put a stamp on this team. Unless what we're seeing now is the mark of Garrett, which could very well be true.

I think he has had only a limited role in player selection.

Based on the first draft it looks like he is going after tough players with a good work ethic.

The thing that handcuffs Garrett is he has to be part GM here. Not many coaches are good GMs. I think it is a flawed FO structure just as a HC without an OC is a flawed coaching structure. He has really handcuffed himself here. I really hope someone can talk him out of it.

Why should we keep giving him a pass and believing differently? It has been the same chaotic mess since 2007 and nothing has really improved. Romo is an all-world QB who continues to keep the team afloat and that's about it. We have a HC that no other team would touch with a 10 foot pole at this point in his career. That's not a good thing.
