Hoss, I'm debating between a Ruger Mini-14 and a Model 94 for a "trunk" gun. How is the Winchester as far as any rust issues?
You have to keep any gun clean. I do so I don't have any rust. I know though that typically the Model 94 does attract rust if not cared for regularly.

That and the fact they are out of "new" production. I'll probably go with something like the mini 14 in stainless if I decide to go with a rifle in the vehicle.

Theebs, then your best bet is to live next to the police station. One should always be careful about saying never. Better to have something and not need it then need it and not have it.

Yeah, I want to move next door to burm. He definitely sounds like he knows how to take care of property and would-be criminals.

You can have proper self defense in your home without it actually being a firearm.

I resemble that remark

(there is no truth to the stories that I occassionally drop blanket wrapped bundles in the desert that contain bodies- I would not waste the blankets)

A crucifix in one hand and a picture of Bob's abs in the other will not do the trick. Better buy a gun.

absolutely.

I have a blue belt with a red stripe in Tae Kwon Do...from when I was 12.

Ninjas can dodge bullets!!!

seriously though. WHen my son gets a little older, I am thinking around 8 I am going to sign up again for tae kwon do. One of my goals is to achieve the black belt in tae kwon do I gave up on when I was a kid because of baseball.

small pieces of wood should be scared because we are coming for them in the future.

There are some people who shouldn't have guns. (Criminals for one) But guys like Theebs, who professes a desire to not have one and maintains that position is doing the right thing. You should only have a gun if you are prepared to use the thing.

As for me, My wife and two daughters, 17 and 13 know how to fire a gun. They know as much as can be taught to them about them.

One thing I know for sure. If anyone tries to come into my home when I' not there and they encounter one of my girls, they are leaving feet first.

They have been instructed to shoot anyone coming in the house that wasn't invited in. They have been told to shoot until the person has stopped breathing or twitching. Whichever comes first.

But theebs is right, he shouldn't have a gun if he feels a certain way about them.

My inspiration, my oldest daughter just turned 13 in February and boys are noticing her. I need to be scarier. I made a goal of 400 on the bench by the time she turns 16.

saw this and put it together with the thread about her getting her license, was wondering if you ever hit that 400 mark Hos?

Then he needs to get a mean dog- preferably more then one. Because lets be brutally honest: in case of home invasion there is no defense but a fire arm. If they are armed they will shoot any dog that comes at them; and I doubt they would invade if they did not have guns. If multiple dogs are coming at them they probably would not be able to get all of them. Outside of that what kind of defense could be effective against guns?

The single best deterrent is locking your doors and windows and having your alarm set.

Do that and there's no need for a gun.

my feelings on the matter are that the bad guys have guns, they will always have guns and you never know what or when you will be in a situation with a bad guy so as the boy scouts say always be prepared. if they have a gun they are prepared to use it and frankly if its between me and you my mentality is it WILL be me, everytime.
