I see you only root for players or coaches you like. If "fans" hope for the Cowboys to lose because of either draft pick order or coaching change then they really are Cowboys fans, they're fans of some players and when they are no longer with the team do you stop being a fan? I'm a Cowboys fan which means I hope they win every game and whether they do or not I'm still a Cowboys fan. Being a Cowboys fan I do so even if there are players or coaches I don't like, I still hope they win. I was reminded by a friend from Chicago who told me that Cubs fans waited 3 generations and over 100 years for the Cubs to win a World Series. For generations those Cubs fans bought Cubs merchandise, went to games and watched them on TV and we have "fans" here who complain about the Cowboys.
.
Nothing personal, but the sad thing is that now we are comparing ourselves to Cubs fans who rooted for a loser for a century. I guess under Jerry Jones we are already 25% toward the 100-year-with-no-championship Cub standard. As we Cubs fans use to say, "Any team can have a bad century."

As a parent I compare the situation to having a child who messed up, broke the law, and has been arrested.

Do I WANT them in jail? No, of course not! Do I think they NEED to go to jail to learn about consequences and to keep them from screwing up like that again? Yes, absolutely.

So while I would love the Boys to have success, I realize hitting the bottom is the only way that is going to happen for them in the long run.

Tough love!

This is my last message to you because your denseness knows no bounds. You just brought up great stars and talent AGAIN! I NEVER USED THE WORD STARS troll! Players in the NFL who have productive careers can be integral in a team. Not once was Pro Bowls mentioned. You were smarting off about players like he did nothing. Every NFL team is made up of a majority of role and good players with stars mixed in. When Campo had 3 straight 5-11 seasons we had no talent. Parcells drafted all those guys who built a foundation that lasted through Wade and even Garrett. I’m not sure why you keep mentioning stars and pro bowls when they just needed talent and fit in general. This is common sense football which you don’t possess. Please go troll elsewhere. He changed the narrative which any google search will show you

Well here's my last reply. You still have a very HUGE comprehension problem. I have said SEVERAL times that the team was upgraded. Now this time you bring up the prior coach Campo and his record, but failed to UNDERSTAND that even with the upgrade Parcells did he didn't win a single division title. You failed to either understand or admit that not all of what Parcells did was so great. He came to Dallas and he brought in two has been to build the offense around, Bledsoe and Anderson. Again it took a lot of convincing by Payton to get Parcells and Jones to get Romo to Dallas but still Parcells went with the has been Bledsoe until halftime of week 7, nearly half the season over before switching to Romo.

Yes Parcells upgraded the Cowboys but as you said Campo's teams wouldn't take that much to be upgraded. You can be the biggest Pacells fan that you want to be but that doesn't change the fact that not everything he did was good or that he produced even any division titles.

Lastly I've been a Cowboys fan since the very first day they were in existence which I'm sure is a lot long than you..

Your claim is only true, if you tally up each member who voted in the undecided category, with a posted comment supporting losing, calculate those, add them to the No category, and having the resulting total more than the total shown in the Yes category.

I am not saying you are wrong but you are also only correct with supporting data in this poll. Not slightly off-topic but I am completely guilty of including a wishy-washy third option. My first impulse is making polls with yea or nay options only. However, creating polls always attract the 'you shoulda added yada yada yada too' comments so I did.

The exclusion of a third option would have left zero doubt at this point. I gotta start sticking to my guns more with polls.:)
Fair point............but only 44% said yes with no qualifiers.

I read virtually every post in this thread and the majority of undecideds were basically "yes, would love to make playoffs but not at the cost of Garrett saving his job".

A very interesting poll, if I may suggest one, would not be if you want to make the playoffs or not, but would be if you want to make the playoffs if it saved Garrett for another season. Those results would be very interesting, I have a good idea what the vast majority would vote but the actual numbers would be interesting.

Exactly...........I think that is how most of us feel, sure we would love to make the playoffs but not if it saves Garrett.

That is the reason I hope we lose out, I dont trust Jerry to not use making the playoffs as an excuse to keep Garrett another year. Not worth the risk, I know Garrett is gone if we miss the playoffs, not even Jerry can sell that. But Jerry might think he can sell keeping Garrett another year if we win the East and especially if we somehow win a Wildcard game. Jerry will say, "you cant fire a coach that wins a playoff game, you just cant".

For the hopeful optimists out there anything can happen if you make the playoffs. The 2011 Giants were 6-6 and riding a 4 game losing streak when they faced the Cowboys in week 14. The Cowboys had the Giants down by 12 points in that game and had they won the Giants would’ve been pretty much done that season. Unfortunately they came back to win and ended up finishing that season 9-7 with an elimination game victory over the Cowboys in week 17.

They went on to the playoffs and won the Super Bowl. Although it looks hopeless for the Cowboys the way they’re playing anything can happen in the playoffs. The playoffs give you hope and I would rather have some hope than no hope by sitting home. I’m not about the hope we miss out like many fans are hoping just to get rid of Garrett. It’s not in my DNA to do that, never has been and never will be.

Currently, the following is my interpretive breakdown of the actual 17 of 77 (only 22% of votes cast in the category) undecided members' comments thus far:

I voted complicated, as it is. I want more football, but can’t stand to stomach another JG coached football game either. The final 3 is going to be more than enough.
Hell no!! This team is going no where in the playoffs with Garrett!! This could back fire. Emotional old Jerry could decide to keep Garrett, his son in law.
Does making the playoffs exclude Jerry from firing the entire defensive staff and starting over? That goes for ST and other 1st time coaches who have struggling players who used to be dam good (Colombo). Changes in the coaching ranks need to be made regardless of how we do on the field, but if losing now guarantees those changes then so be it cause we likely ain't winning much anyway.
Nah, I don't need to see another playoff loss, especially from a wild card team coming into Dallas and handing us our butts. Give the new head coach a better draft pick
Of course I want to see my team in the playoff race, but I'm also realistic about the status of this team. A playoff appearance is nice, but it is clear as day that the coaching staff needs to be sent packing, and this team gets a fresh start, hopefully with a competent head coach. That's what is most important right now.
Yea I would change my vote to a flat no. lol
Could Be Yes Or No Comments (8)
Who says you have to root for the eagles? Root for Dallas to do what they've been doing and the earliest departure for Garrett. To answer the OP it's neither a yes or no. My answer isn't even complicated it's just that indifference has set in. The opportunity for Garrett to reach his ceiling again just does nothing for me.
Team Tank will insure we lose by one score accidentally on purpose....
I'd certainly never be against us making it into the playoffs. But I don't want Garrett to stay here. Also, I don't want us going one and done and screwing our draft position.
Don't care. Have found better things to do than watch these games through to the end. I can handle losing but watching players like Jaylon dog it game after game and not only avoid censure but allowed to appeal for accolades is making me hate this team. Gallup drops, finesse blocking, poor tackling, player regression, simple schemes paired with poor execution, and Witten still getting 80% of snaps makes me hate it too.
I don’t believe just making the playoffs, which will only be as Division Champs, will have any bearing long term. The only way Garrett stays is if the team is in the NFCCG which is very, very, very unlikely. I’ll take Garrett another year if that’s the case. As far as worse draft position by virtue of making the playoffs, the team can and will get a starter quality player drafting in the early 20’s as opposed to mid-teens.
I would be content if we lose out, that way Jerry has no choice but to make a change. That said, I will root for this team for 60 minutes every week.
I will not be able to root for the Cowboys to lose each week, but unfortunately, unless they do, the total and complete change that is necessary for this team and organization won't happen. Whichever outcome will cause the Joneses to back out of the football operation and leave it to a competent, sane and most of all, sober professional is what I want.
But Parcells changed culture, brought in talent, etc. At that time we were bottom feeders with crap at QB, low talent, etc. He got us going up again. Problem is a lot of the talent was wasted after the fact.

Note: In my opinion, @TexasFrog was (strongly) sidetracked in an unrelated topic discussion with another member and did not REALLY elaborate on his thoughts for voting the poll's third option. I would suggest he leans towards a No vote if I were to guess.

Finally

Yes Comments (3)
I do, but not because Philly loses out. I want Dallas to win out and actually earn it. Beat the Rams and Eagles, then keep the starters in and beat the Skins. We need some momentum if we are to have a prayer in the playoffs. Before I get bludgeoned, I dont expect that to happen.
I'd rather the Cowboys go then the eagles.
Of course, but not at the expense of Garrett staying. It is a catch 22 for me......screw it-make the playoffs, it is an extra week of Cowboys football

I would agree that Garrett as coach was a verbal factor for 11 of the 17 undecided members, which is a solid 64% majority of the 22% of 77 members that voted in the category. That said, this poll was not created for anyone embracing conditions for the team making the playoffs. It is a simple poll seeking how strongly or weakly overall opinion was for the team getting into the postseason. Period. My curiosity wanted some form of rational confirmation on continued claims that 'everyone', 'all of us' or any other type of exaggeration is always transparently bogus.
A very interesting poll, if I may suggest one, would not be if you want to make the playoffs or not, but would be if you want to make the playoffs if it saved Garrett for another season. Those results would be very interesting, I have a good idea what the vast majority would vote but the actual numbers would be interesting.
I suggest, and strongly encourage any member, to post a poll like the one you propose, or any other type of poll for that matter, to find out answers they seek for themselves. CowboysZone provides that tool for anyone wanting to become a site supporter, so it is easily achievable for practically everyone (which is, ironically, proper usage of the pronoun :muttley:).

Thirty years of Jerry Jones oversight of his franchise in matters of coaching hires and drafting should not instill any definitive degree of confidence in anyone. Just my opinion. So, I have zero opposition in anyone making a "better" poll centering on expected "better" outcomes in the hiring of another head coach and draft picks because of wished for "better" accompanying odds. People should knock themselves out and just do it.

Me? I do not wish upon a star. My opinion on the team winning and losing games have remained unchanged for 43 years. I want the team to win every game. And I will let fate decide the rest, just as it has decided everything else in all matters, whether those matters are related to the franchise or not.

Well..... Jimmy was let go after the finns were smoked 62 - 7. Maybe a playoff blowout will bring in a new coaching staff?

NOTHING would sum up this Dallas organization like yet another NFC East title and a One-&-Done appearance in the playoffs

so yes, I want them in the playoffs. Will they prove me wrong? I hope so, but not likely.

If the Cowboys some how win this game vs the Rams, it just further endorses my belief that this team has so many deep seeded issues.
A team with so much talent that just looks at the upcoming schedule and decides week to week if it even worth the effort to show up and play.
After evaluating this team all season, we will loose this game today vs the Rams, but we will show up so highly motivated next week and crush the Eagles.

My heart says yes, my brain says no. Forget the heart. This team has something seriously wrong with it. It needs to be corrected. If its attitude brought about by a lackluster coach and owner, that is going to be hard to change without some significant personnel changes. The Cowboys may have to shop some players around the league in addition to hiring a new coaching staff. I believe at least some rebuilding is going to be necessary over the next two years anyway. They have about 30 payers who will be free agents this year and next. Be prepared for major change in the roster.

But it goes beyond that. The Cowboys division is changing. The Giants suck this year but they are closer than anyone thinks. Danny Dimes needs more experience and will probably be greatly improved next year. The Giants are also building that defense again. They have some DTs the Cowboys could use. If the Giants draft someone like Chase Young, and they will have a good shot at him, they could have a stout defense for the next 4 or 5 years. If they can sign Leonard Williams, and another CB or two, they could be very tough.

The Commanders are also building a foundation for the future. I am not a big Haskins fan, but if they can get him another receiver, improve a little on the OL and add a LB or some secondary help, they could also be very tough in the next couple of years. The Commanders are solid at DT also with Allen and Payne. That duo is just going to get better.

Both the Giants and Commanders will be drafting very early and will have a chance to add an impact player somewhere on the field. My guess is the Giants will go with Young if he's on the board, otherwise they will go with a top OT. The Commanders need a replacement for Trent Williams.

The Eagles are on a slide, IMO. Jason Peters is old. Jenkins is 31, Kelce is 32, Graham is 31. They also have injury prone WRs. They have more cap space than I could have imagined considering where they were last year and they are willing to use it. They are also willing to trade picks for players and have done so effectively.

This is a long way of saying, the Cowboys had no first round pick last year and I believe, if they lose out, they will have a quality pick this year - and a big chance to select a true impact safety or maybe even a DT. I say let the Eagles win the division at 9-7 and lose in the first round. The Cowboys need fresh meat for the defense and losing is the best way to acquire that talent since Jerry doesn;t believe in signing free agents.

Can never wish for us to miss the playoffs. Anything can Happen. Remember the Gnats? No tanking for the Draft. Would you like another Taco with that loss? We can lose or potentially win that playoff game. We were really close to beating some good teams this season.
