For me not as simple as yes or no. I would like to have Thomas but it would have to be within Cowboys salary cap structure. If he wants top dollar then go somewhere else, if he wants to finish his career as a Cowboy then it needs to be in a cap friendly deal. Pretty much take it or leave it

BTW.....Just a reminder, we chased Earl for over 15 months, even offering the Seahawks a 2nd round pick. They refused to trade or release him. Forcing him to the final year of his deal which he missed almost the entire season with an injury. As a free agent, he was determined to be the highest-paid NFL safety WITH OR WITHOUT the Cowboys, which led to his contract with the Ravens. The lesson of the post.....he chose $$$$ over signing with his favorite team. Greed can be tricky..

we chased him because jerry wanted to chase him...Jerry made personnel decision for garrett with/without his recommendation.....MM hasn't endorsed ET...let the coaches choose their ingredients and hold them responsible. shoving a player down MM's throat is only going to create conflict ala parcells.....

If other teams are hesitant to sign him which in turn brings the price down and the Cowboys get him for a decent price with some stipulations in the contract...sure.

Bottom line with most players and teams when there are issues with players...is the player worth the hassle and money .

If they are a declining player or they don't want to deal with the player issues than it is not worth it to a team...See TO. When TO was still a great player, teams were willing to put up with it. When he started to decline they were not.

I would say ET is still a good player...so now it comes down to money and security. Are they secure that he will be a good player without serious issues and get a good return on investment....if so sign him, if not do not.

Agree 100%......I've already said in other threads IF MM doesn't want ET, he will not be here. So far, he's said ET will be Stephen and Jerry call but any player has to be a good lockerroom fit.

Thomas seems to be the name everyone has heard and thinks of the thomas from 5 years ago. he is on the wrong side of 30, coming off injuries. to say he has lost a step is an under statement. and now seemingly he has lost his focus and drive and just seemingly wanting to have one last large contract.....he is not focused on football, given he has missed meetings apparently to get his car washed, has gotten into fights with teammates and just got cut by the ravens, a superbowl contending team. we are a young team, we don't need distractions given even if he is better than thompson, he may not be much better at this point in his career. Plus, it seems that nobody really wants to sign him, everyone who has a need just like us has said, no thanks...including SF, Atlanta, NO.....

but hey, people on this board like to play madden football, they just make a trade on the game and turn up the ratings and fantasize.

Earl Thomas was statistically a top 5 safety last season, and people think he is barely better than Darian Thompson? Doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't have to be the best safety in the league to be worth adding to the team.

Exactly. If people don't want him on the team just say that. But people are trying to say he's barely better than what we have on the roster when he was still a top 5 safety last season. Most likely he will get signed after week 1 when his salary wouldn't be guaranteed.

It is as simple as this. We have cap space. Sign him to a 1 year deal for reasonable money. And maybe carry an extra S in case you have to cut him.

But if he was to sign for very cheap and is easily releasable if he acts like a fool, then I would not be opposed to it. But based off his actions and production in the past few years, he does not deserve premium money and/or guaranteed spot.

Seems most folks in favor of signing ET are perceiving him as the same guy he was 5 years ago rather than the guy that just got himself fired by the Ravens. It's a nice fantasy but in reality, he is no longer that guy.

I haven't seen one fan claim he is the same player he was 5 years ago. You seem to perceive him as washed up, as if he didn't just go to the Pro Bowl with the Ravens. Earl Thomas today is better than what we currently have, and that's a fact.

I agree in terms of the Ravens, however, I believe him being cut had everything to do with his attitude, actions outside of performance on the field. Still gives me pause but I do believe he would still be a significant upgrade to what the Boys have now.

Makes me wonder if they would’ve kept him if they didn’t have a legit free safety ready to start
