Jerry is a businessman 1st and foremost. His #1 goal is making money. Not sure where it lands on his list after $, but football is at best a distant second

Mike McCarthy won 12 games in each of the last 3 seasons in spite of jerruh.
Parcells could only stand jerruh's meddling influence 4 seasons until he said screw it.
Who will be the next poor sap that jerruh hires after he sabotages this season?
A puppet like Garrett? Or a guy that can actually make the team somewhat relevant in spite of jerruh?

I think he qualifies as a football guy. 30 plus years involved deeply in the nfl qualifies as a football guy imo.
This reminds me of the scene from the bad news bears when discussing the " New" coach.

The Kid, " He's been round baseball fields all his life "
Parents ; " Does that him a good coach?"
The Kid, ; "yes"

The kid was actually talking about the groundskeeper.

And low IQ Jerruh was the owner who spearheaded the introduction of the salary cap into the National Football League. Which in turn became one of the biggest factors in him descending into complete and utter failure over the last 27 years.

How ironic.
That is because Jerry is a business man. It was a great business decision.

Jerry thought he could still win on an even playing field. Boy was he wrong.

Once again he miss read the tea leaves.

If the definition of a “football guy” is a person who knows how to build a championship roster in the cap era, Jerry does not qualify. We have 28 years of receipts. A successful football guy serving as GM delivers more than team value and jersey sales.

Jerry is a football guy in the sense he played football in college and clearly loves the game. That doesn’t make you a capable GM.

Serious question: Is there a team in this league that would hire Jerry Jones as it’s General Manager? No. And if Jerry the GM had served under a normal owner he would have been fired a long time ago.

Jerry is the GM. The GM is in charge of aquiring the talent for the team to be successful. The team has talent. No questions if the team is talented. So either he is a football guy as illustrated by the talent on the team or he has no say in it and it really doesn't matter if he is or isn't. By whatever method they use to acquire the players, they have been pretty good at it over the last 10-15 years. I do think the business side of the Cowboys interferes with the product of the team itself which is a problem. We sign folks or release folks we shouldn't strictly based on how it affects the brand.

But it wasn't Jerry that fumbled a snap against Seattle. It wasn't Jerry who fumbled against GB, nor was it Jerry that had a catch no catch in the same game. It wasn't Jerry who ran a QB draw with 14 seconds to go in a game, it wasn't Jerry who couldn't stop the run or threw 2 interceptions against GB and it wasn't Jerry pouting on the sideline all game.

The Bears played in the SB in 2006.

Jets played in a conference championship in 1998, 2009, and 2010.

Chargers played in a conference championship in 2007.

All three have accomplished more than the Cowboys since the Cowboys last played for anything that mattered.

You should have stopped with the Browns who are one of only 5 teams to not play in any conference title games in the 21st century along with the Cowboys.

When trying to show examples to win an argument it is poor form to show examples that have accomplished more than who you are trying to defend.
I know exactly who I used and I know what they have done. If you think th crappy Bears and their 1 little SB appeaance washes away all th eother years,.... good for you.
Same with the Jets. In my entire life, they have basically sucked, except for three little seasons.

Any team can have a good, lucky run... yea, LUCKY run. If it werent luck, they wouldnt have disappeared into be crap the next year, just like the bucs, falcons, and others that got in, and then disappeared immediately.

When it comes to being a "football guy" the only difference between Jerry and most of us is that he could afford to buy a team and we can't.
any of us have a d1 national championship ring?

Roseman gave up a haul for Wentz, Schoen signed Jones for $40m per year, Lynch signed Lance for 5 #1 draft picks. Who else u got?

Not sure of what your definition of a “Football Guy” is, but Jerry was co-captain of Arkansas 1964 National Championship game as an offensive lineman. Throughout his time in the NFL he’s learned from so many of the greats that he’s certainly learned even more. So IMO, he’s a football guy more than most here. His only problem is he’s convinced his way is the right way.
Just because he learned more doesn’t mean he’s reached the necessary standard.
The last 28 years have shown us that much (well maybe not you).

This isn't exactly fair, lol. Switch Dak & Mahommes and see which one is the "Football Guy". We'd be going for 3 in a row too
Even Mahommes couldn’t overcome our GM’s ineptitude.
In case you hadn’t noticed it takes a team to win an SB not just a QB!

It was Jethro that chose the coaches and the rest of the support staff. THAT is also the job of the GM. Love how you want to blame the players and not Jethro
It was Jethro who stuck with a clearly over matched HC FOR TEN YEARS

When has Dallas had a talent the level of Mahomes on the roster in the past 30 years? They haven't.
What round was Mahomes drafted in?
When was the last time our “football guy” use a similar pick?

hmm..... did he play on a national championship team? What exactly makes someone a "Football guy," so we can start figuring it out.
If the title of the thread said “Competent Football Guy” would that help you figure it out?
