He looks to be caught between being too light and muscular to be a typical Olinemen but not big and muscular enough to be some muscular phenom like Tyron Smith. I remember when Tyron came out most people thought he looked to much like a body builder and did not have the bulk required to be a good Olinemen. He has proved otherwise. But in many ways he was the exception to the rule.

C.Williams looks like he is inbetween those two types. Not thick enough to be like the other Olinemen but not big and strong enough to be a Tyron either.

I am sure he will improve as the season goes on and I imagine he will wind up bulking up some in the the offseason.

I have seen some here say that maybe they should move him to RT and move Lal back to OG.

However I think towards the end of preseason after the Fredbeard news...for a practice or two they tried Zack at C.

I think the idea was that he is probably good enough to play the position but he would also be there to help the OG.

Just something to consider.

to answer the question I would say yeah
he has a thick lower body he can get the chest and arms with weights
I think he will be ok but going to struggle at times vs premiere power dtackles

does he have the frame to get bigger and stronger or is he nearly physically maxed out?

the team wanted to start him, but we all know he is weak and needs a year in the weight room.
my only concern is if the year in the weight room going to do it.
Needs to get bigger and stronger, and study Puttyism

Lets remember he is a 2nd round pick. I like the kid, but he needs a year or two to get experience and get bigger. They have thrown him to the wolves. There was always going to be growing pains. I think by the end of the season it will be paying dividends.

Fans forget, and I tried to tell them these things. This is a rebuilding type team that is growing. Youngest in the NFL. People need to stop worrying about expectations that wont happen. This is a much different team then even 2 years ago.

If he isn't big or strong enough to play, why is he starting and why did he spend a #2 on him?

1. Marcus Martin went down with an injury but I doubt he was serious competition in the FOs mind.
Pretty sure once he was drafted they wrote his name in ink for the LG starting spot.
2. Just be glad our 2nd round pick is actually on the field and not on IR/dealing with a long term injury. lol

C.Williams will be good..he opened up against one of the best front 4's in the NFL, relax people. I thought he played great, gave up a few bull rushes which was expected (some have the wrong expectations). He has the frame, the feet, the mind & heart. Guy has the whole package. Needs to get stronger in hips/legs. Patience people.
He's a rookie, he'll get better each week.

No, I don't. Did Seattle go on the record as saying that, or is that a media concoction?
Yeah..probably the same media that connected us to Dallas Goedert. Everything I saw/heard was that the Seahawks just wanted our 50th pick, since they didn't have a 2nd rd. pick. Would they have used it on a lineman? Maybe, but Connor Williams has too much pedigree for them. Seattle loves their converted TE hybrid project linemen.

Remember this "undersized" O-lineman? How did it work out for him and the team

I know many people hold Larry Allen close to their hearts (as do I), but Stepnoski was my favorite lineman. He was David out there fending off Goliaths. I remember this story (someone please correct me) that he wore a very old/worn-in jersey (probably seasons old) that was so tight it barely squeezed over his pads. The reason being was that it was harder for the nose-tackle to grab a hold of him.

Nope. No judging.
More about questioning a guy who is playing a position he is too lean for. And since the thread is about his frame and if he can transform it to a Guard from I clearly made the observation that he may not have the desire to get big and ugly.

How many times do you think Larry Allen shaved his arms and legs?

His ability to play football has shown itself and that’s why we are even speaking about him.

Nice try though.

What the actual **** does shaving arms and legs have to do with wanting to play football or not. Jesus Christ. You know a TON of NFL players shave their arms and legs, right?

Weaknesses:
  • Not strong at all
  • Underweight
  • More of a guard build, but a weak guard
  • Physically has a hard time playing tackle
  • Durability
  • Short arms for a tackle - 33 inches
  • Weak base
  • Gets bull rushed
  • Susceptible to power moves
  • Struggled with speed guys
  • Plays soft
There are a lot of problems for Williams in the NFL. The biggest issues is that he is not strong at all. He plays soft and gets pushed around. He lacks strength in his base and speed rushers can give him problems. He has an issue with sustaining blocks as defenders can break away from his blocks.

As we reported in the Hot Press, Williams was receiving some mid-round grades from evaluators during the season. Some teams have Williams higher, while others really dislike his game. The main issue that sources said was hurting Williams is the lack of strength. One AFC team in need of tackle help said they gave him a late third-round, early fourth-round grade. Another said they gave him a fourth-rounder and could easily have graded him in the fifth round. I spoke with a NFC general manager who scouted Williams in person this season, and they were disappointed in Williams overall. They felt Williams lacked strength and thought him overhyped. This NFC general manager said they thought Williams was a fourth-rounder for them. Some sources felt he should move inside to guard.

For the NFL, Williams is a tweener guard/tackle. His height and lack of length would fit better at guard. However, his lack of strength would be very problematic on the inside as strong or heavy nose tackles will give him problems. His feet and athleticism would fit better at tackle, but he lacks strength there and speed rushers can give him problems. In the 2018 NFL Draft, Williams will probably be a second-day pick, although many mock drafts project Williams to go in the first round and it only takes one team to fall in love.

he is listed as 6'5" 311lb ...

There's no way he's 311. Tyron Smith is 6'5" 312.
