Here's my thinking. After a disappointing loss in our last home game and then not showing up at all with the playoffs on the line, there is no way the coach should have been brought back this season. No way. Show me any other team in professional sports with the expectations of the Dallas Cowboys where the Head Coach was retained after the team gave up like that.

Nothing has changed. This team is talented but does not seem prepared and many players aren't showing much heart. 99 times out of 100, it's the Head Coach. Firing Wade now sends us a message that this is serious and no one is safe. It also gives Garrett his ''shot" to show if he can make a difference. If he turns the team around, great. If he doesn't, hello Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, etc.

We are the fricken Dallas Cowboys, not some mediocre franchise. It took a decade of losing before George Steinbrenner got over himself and hired a real GM and a real Manager. We are looking at 12 plus years now.

Great post, thank you.

I get really tired of all the "Jerry has never fired a coach in mid-season so he won't do it now" posts.

Jerry has also never had a brand-spanking new billion dollar stadium that will be sitting at 50-60% occupancy late in the season if this team continues to tank.

Jerry has drawn extra attention to himself this year with the stadium.

If the team tanks, he risks becoming the laughing-stock of the league. He will start cutting dead weight coughWadecough faster than a hot air ballon over the middle of the Atlantic.

I've accepted the fact that losing s not as big a deal to you as it is others here, and I don't flame you or seek out your posts. Why must you challenge anyone who feels differently than you? Why can't we all have a little mutual respect for others' feelings and the way they deal with losses? Winning would fix all this and those of us here being "negative" are not responsible for the losses. The loss this week didn't bother you, fine. That doesn't bother me. But why does myself and others being upset bother you so much? I don't get the lack of respect for others opinions. None of us are all right and none of us are all wrong and a little repect for opinions would go a long way to making this forum more friendly and productive. imo.

I tried to fight this battle too, and you simply can't get through to the people who find enjoyment in questioning the fandom of other Cowboys fans. They have an inferiority complex, and it makes them feel better to point at others and highlight what they believe are shortcomings. If they can create the illusion of people being inferior to themselves then they don't have to deal with the tragedy of their own existence. In the end, you just have to put them on ignore. Its the only solution.

What if the defense performs but the offense fails...

While it probably isn't fair, that's just the way the NFL is. The two people always blamed are the head coach and the quarterback, except in Valley Ranch it's the QB, head coach, offensive coordinator, and owner. I just think this team has taken the personality of their head coach, which is SOFT.

Wade Phillips is not getting fired.

Jerry Jones does not fire Head Coaches during the Season, never has and probably never will.

We would be 2-3 and the loss would be against an AFC opponent.

Besides, I am told that most teams that change Head Coaches during the Season typically don't do very well.

Sheesh, some folks act like we are 0-4 and have been blown out of every game.

The team is showing the exact same patterns of poor performance as last year. Nothing changed at all after the season ending meltdowns. Same lack of desire, same poor fundamentals, same mediocre results.

You guys are over exaggerating some things. We were two plays from being undefeated. Came within an inch of winning both games, the only reason there's nothing to worry about is because you've got to start finishing games, but besides that, there's nothing to be too concerned over.

No he won't be fired until the end of the season. Not only would that mean an interim head coach it would also mean we lose our defensive coordinator.

Forgive me if these points have already been made. I didn't read the whole thread.

During last week's minicamp at Carrollton's Standridge Stadium, Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips was chatting with longtime radio voice Brad Sham. It had come to Sham's attention that veteran linebacker Bradie James was suddenly likening Phillips to TV's old Dr. Cliff Huxtable.

Compassionate but stern. Fair but firm. Soft yet...hard.

"You remember the Bill Cosby character, right coach?" Sham asked.

"Sure," replied Phillips with a chuckle. "Hey, hey, hey!"

This, my friends, is the stumbledoofus charged with leading America's Team out of its dark ages.

Phillips' colossal confusion between The Cosby Show and Fat Albert may be dispiriting— though, ultimately, not at all surprising...

I would think if we lost to the Chiefs... hmmm. I'll say yes Wade goes, Garrett to HC and we find out what he can do in that role. If he fails miserably, he gets axed as well at season's end.

When the smoke clears, I really think Jon Gruden might be the next head coach. But let's see how it plays out.

They gave the Ravens a run for their money week 1. The Ravens scored that last TD with little time left.

This franchise will implode if we get beat by the Cheifs. I dont care if it is by 1 point, we better win the dam game.

No way Cupcake can justify a loss to the Cheifs, none.

Does Wade get fired if we lose to Washington?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to Oakland?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to the Giants?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to San Diego?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to New Orleans?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to Washington?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to Philadelphia?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to in the Wildcard?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to in the Divisional Playoffs?

Does Wade get fired if we lose to NFC Championship game?

Does Wade get fired if we lose the Super Bowl?

I dont think we have to worry about these last 4 questions. Kinda hard to lose a game you are not playing in if you get my drift.:D

Who will be our D coordinator if we fire wadE?

We are 29th in pass defense. My kitty cat could call the defensive plays and get the same result.

Wade takes up two jobs (HC and DC), which basically makes him "unfirable."

Agreed.

I just dont see 100,000 folks coming out to watch a .500 ball club.

I just dont see it, maybe Jerry is betting they show regardless???

yeah I gotcha. Does not mean you can't keep up hope. And it was more to make a point of the potential ridiculousness of it all. Because even if we are in those games, you know it'll come up.

Bingo - though let's be honest, he's only really doing one... DC.

If they find Wade wandering the freeway naked holding a picture of Jerry, he won't be fired. Period. Firing Wade means the season is beyond salvage, and if it is beyond salvage, Jerry will not 1) fire Wade with the tacit admittance he should have done it last year and 2) do anything that will admit he was necessarily wrong, since he can just let Wade's contract expire this year.

If Dallas loses to KC I'm firing MYSELF. (Of course I'll just reapply in two weeks.)

No, because none of the likely candidates would take over during the season, and hiring an interim coach - Garrett? Sherman?? Campo?? - would not solve this season's problems.
and frankly, the defense isn't that big a problem compared to the offense. If anybody should get fired for a poor performance, it should be Garrett.

maybe he's *TRYING* to get fired so he can go to Washington. Hmmm LOL jk
