Does Ware Have One Good Year Left In Him?

Nope, he's been done for a couple of years. I'd be more than happy to have him back at 50% of his current salary.

I don't think Ware is worth 6 million dollars, nor do I think he is going to take a cut down to 6 million dollars.

He's still relatively young, I guess a 2nd, plus a later round, along with a 3rd for Austin. With the second you could land a solid G along with other goodies. Honestly.

Ware has no trade value due to his contract. He would not get paid 12.25M as a free agent. Teams will definitely not give up draft picks for the right to pay him 12.25M.

If his salary was guaranteed (it's not), the Cowboys would have to give the other team draft picks just to take on his salary.

Teams would sign him and then re-do his contract. No one will pay him that kind of money.

Ware has trade value in my opinion. I believe the Cowboys will let him shop himself around and find a team willing to sign him to a new contract and whatever compensation the team will give the Cowboys. The Cowboys can agree to the compensation and make the trade and the new contract goes into effect. For example, Ware talks to ATL and they agree on $7M/yr for Ware and ATL offers the Cowboys a 4th rd pick in the 2014 draft and a conditional 2015 pick based on Ware's playing time and perhaps a pro bowl appearance. Say, the Cowboys get a 2015 3rd rd pick if Ware plays in 70% of the defense's snaps and it's upgraded to a 2nd if Ware makes the pro bowl or something. Ware's salary will be what he agrees upon with his new team. The Cowboys eat the dead money and still come out ahead by about $6M or so for 2014.

In a trade, the new team inherits the players contract.

The only way he would have trade value is if the Cowboys got him to lower his contract before the trade.

Why would Ware agree to that?

All he has to do is say no to a pay cut from the Cowboys. He either gets his full 12.25M from the Cowboys or he is an unrestricted free agent. If he had been shopped around, he would already know that ATL would pay him at least 7M. They might pay more if they didn't have to give up a draft pick. There is also the possibility that another team that didn't want to trade for him would offer him more than 7M as an unrestricted free agent.

The Cowboys must do something with his contract in March. His non-restructured cap hit is too big for them to wait around like they did with Doug Free. In Free's case, they waited until teams had spent their free agent money and he was unlikely to get any better offers than the pay cut the Cowboys offered.

From what I gather, Ware's base for 2014 is $12.25M and none of it is guaranteed. So, if he is cut, he gets none of the $12.25M. So, Ware has millions of reasons to consider a pay cut. Ware WILL accept a pay cut unless Jerry Jones does something stupid and restructures Ware again. If Ware is cut, no team is paying him $12M for 2014. His market value is somewhere in the $5-7M/yr range at his age and if healthy imo. Ware can either accept that amount to stay in Dallas, get a trade for a team willing to pay him that amount, or be a June 1st cut (assuming no Dallas restructure).

Like you said, Ware might just say forget it and say restructure or cut. Ware then becomes a FA and can do whatever he wants. So, yeah, maybe there isn't much trade value to a player other teams know will be cut.

It would be nice to trade him, but it looks like it will be a restructure or June 1st cut. I hope it is the cut.

Robert Mathis went from 8 to 19.5 sacks in his age 32 season. Never had more than 11 his whole career. Heck, Phillips and Abraham both the best season they had in years. Bruce Smith had 14 sacks when he was 34.
Do any of you guys think its out of the realm of possibility for him to have some sort of a rejuvenating year next year?

What type of numbers you think he will put up next year.

(Yes, in a Cowboy uniform)

No.

We need to part ways.

Ware right now is playing a position he's not suited for.

He was an undersized DE in college and he was converted to 3-4 lber.

He was never a NFL DE.

So you can try to move him in and out and try to manage his snaps and hope he lasts the year..

..but in the end..you will have a guy taking time away from another player we need to develop.

The saving we could get against the cap would pay for like 3-4 guys we desparately need to improve.

The team has evolved now to where the window of this team to win is gone.

Jones' idea of having 3-4 guys on each side as top players and paying them the majority of the cap..

while trying to coach up the rest only worked with Aikman, Irvin and Smith..

All top draft choices..

Not marginal players.

The Cowboys can't wait until June 1st to cut Ware. It frees up 7.5M if they cut him in March. They need this money to have any chance to sign free agents.

The only reason for him to take a pay cut is if he (and his agent) believe that the Cowboys pay cut offer is higher than what other teams would pay him.

Let's say they offer him 6M and he turns it down. They cut him. He goes into the open market and the best offer he gets is 5M. He could still come back to the Cowboys an say that he would take the 6M. The Cowboys would not know how much other teams offered him. If they wanted him at 6M one week, would they suddenly not want him at 6M a week later?

I don't want to bash on DeMarcus every day but I think a once a week comment about how he is old and getting older and riddled with injuries that take away the multiple dimensions of his game is to be mentioned. Did I say over priced? Yes, I just said it. release the dragon!

If Jerry is like me then I think he likes him less every week that goes by. I don't like him at 4 million.

Didn't they each have their roles reduced from being an every-down guy to coming in on passing downs as pass-rush specialists, or at least had their PT reduced? Mathis went from playing 52 snaps per game in '12 to 46 in '13. Maybe playing less downs keeps them fresh(er) and more efficient and productive per down.

No..its release the Krakken...haha.

But Ware will probably be offered a restructure with an incentive deal that puts him back at his old deal if he can play.

If he refuses..he's gong somewhere else.

That saves face for the Franchise that they didn't just dump him but afforded a way for him to earn the money back.

It's not Ware's fault with his injures..

..but on the other hand..its not the team's fault they can't afford to pay him like they have the last 2 years.

Not with the dwindling production.

No the player can work out a deal to be completed post trade once they absorb initial contract

Kinda hard for me to believe we areat that point.

Unless Romo returns 100% and avoids more injury to his back..

..its closed.

Same thing on the defensive side with Ware.

The defense has already begun the adjustment of not having Ware dominate or be the featured player they move around to work on the offense.

Add Lee struggling and having Hatcher leaving and Spencer..

..how much before implosion do you estimate?

Its just what I see.

Don't like it..but its sort of like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Don't you think?

It's the Krakken!,,... Good to be corrected. lol why I thought it was the dragon is beyond believe.:eek::eek: Let us all hope that Jerry doesn't feel the need to keep him at all but I know he will offer him well above what DW deserves. Release the Krakken:D
