Draft picks are more valuable than players at this time of the year. They'll slap the 2nd round tender on him and he won't get any bites.

I think Austin will be a #2 receiver in this league never a #1. Hakeem Nicks however has #1 written all over him.

Another way we could look at it is if we get a early 2nd and then draft your boy Sean Smith.

ohhh..Don't tease..:laugh2:

I'd take a 2nd rounder for our 4th WR in a heartbeat. He's looked good in limited action, but I don't ever see him as a guy I'd want to be my #1 or #2.

If I knew we could get Sean Smith because of letting go Austin would make that happen, then I would do it in a heartbeat. That's the only way I let him go..

So we've already devoted our #1 and #3 pick this year to the WR position, and now people want to devote another #2?

Wow, Matt Millen would be proud.

Besides, all that draft pick is going to do is waste away behind TO and Roy Williams because the Cowboys brass don't have the sack to go with a young and unproven guy, just like Austin.
What?

You know you don't have to actually give up a second round pick if you make a "second round tender," right?

Yes, I'm well aware.

I was addressing the posters who were suggesting drafting a WR in the 2nd round. As if we haven't paid out the nose enough for the WR position around here.

Hoof has all the answera. You better start paying attention. The guy could turn the Chiefs and the Raiders around in a season if he wanted to.

FROM HIS COUCH if that was needed.

He's that good. ;)

I realize no one will offer a 1st.......

Thats why you tender him to a 1st. So you can keep him and not have to match some ridiculous contract that some other team will throw at him.

Not necessarily. Especially when we're talking about teams picking late in the draft, but still need talent

value will start slowly rising in the upcoming days. Teams like the Dullphins ( hey Armando Salguero: call me next time  ) Titans, Ravens, Seattle, Bengals, Buffalo, and Cleveland are going to start contacting his agent, if they haven't already done so through back channels.

If I'm Jerrah, I'd seriously look into tagging him with a 1st round tender ( I believe it's only a 600k difference ) but with looking into the posibility of trading him even if I don't get a 1st round pick. For example, if the Dullphins, Ravens, and Titans are all showing major interest, a price of a 2nd round this year and a 4th round in '10 is not unreasonable.

Another reason to tag him with a 1st round tender would be to discourage teams from offering contracts that would put the Cowboys in a difficult situation, therefor taken away leverage in posible negotiations.

No one will give him a contract while giving up a 2nd round pick. Good grief.

Next amazing news from Salguero:

Dolphins | May have interest in Canty

that was mentioned before, but they used two high picks on 3-4 DE's in this past draft, so I really doubt they'll pay huge bucks for Canty

Yes. Just like the year after we drafted our 3-4 DEs in Spears and Canty, there was no way we were going to get another guy. Oh wait....

Yeah, the difference is that he could get a known commodity. Rather than someone who *might* be able to make a transition to a 3-4 D and the pro game all at once. He's already shown he is willing to spend on the D-line and Miami is even a bit behind where we were in year 2 of the 3-4 as they didn't get lucky and hit on a late round guy like Ratliff or a solid young player like Kenyon Coleman.

Dallas would be foolish to let him go... They need to sign him to a long term deal and dump T.O.

BINGO, lets start doing something right around here

I doubt there's a huge demand for him. Just re-sign him...we won't need to shell out that much to do so.
