I doubt there's a huge demand for him. Just re-sign him...we won't need to shell out that much to do so.

I bet his list of interested teams would triple that of Owens

FYI: Any number times 0 is still 0.

I've already stated that if Owens were to be released from Dallas, his career would be over.

What was the last WR that got signed as a RFA for a second round pick?

The Dolphins would have to pay him so much that we do not match and then pony up a 2nd rounder.

The short story is... not gonna happen.

BP simply doesn't value WRs like that.

The guy BP will want is Canty.

Every team has an austin Miles....Miami won't give up anything for him....Us cowboy fans always over estimate our players...he has shown nothing in 3 years, yet we expect a first round pick.....would you give up a 2nd round pick for another teams 3rd or 4th receiver with almost no career numbers.....maybe we can get a 2nd round pick for Stanback

Hoof has all the answera. You better start paying attention. The guy could turn the Chiefs and the Raiders around in a season if he wanted to.

FROM HIS COUCH if that was needed.

He's that good. ;)

It wasn't always that way, but then he started listening to me... :D

Well, every team has player(s) they draft/sign low with hopes of developing them. Once developed, if they show promise it no longer matters how low they were drafted/signed because talent is talent. Miles Austin has shown more than flashes as a WR, meaning that he has developed as hoped. And he's a solid kick returner. You can say he's shown nothing in 3 years all you want, but all that means is that you're just makin **** up! Miles Austin brings with him a great deal of value. He's the perfect example of the kind of player you want to re-sign, otherwise why draft low-rounderes or sign undrafted free-agents in the first place? I fully expect Dallas will sgn him, proably to a 3 or 4 year deal.

Good for Miles Austin.

He found his way onto a roster after playing ball at a small college. He's worked hard, bounced back from injuries, made progress, and now some think he might just have a future as a starting NFL WR.

That's something.

(You know, last year at this time, many here didn't think Austin would even make the team.)

This guy named Wes Welker who, ironically, was a little unknown player for the Miami Dullphins who showed flashes of becoming something special, much like Austin has done.

The Patriots ended up trading for him when the Dullphins threatened to match their offer. It was a vail threat because the Dullphins were more interested in the pick than in Welker himself who they thought was not worth the contract that NE gave him.

The Dolphins would have to pay him so much that we do not match and then pony up a 2nd rounder. The short story is... not gonna happen. BP simply doesn't value WRs like that. The guy BP will want is Canty.

BP doesn't value receiver coming out of the draft as much as others do, but he does value players he knows and likes. He loves Austin.

The question won't be the pick they have to give up, they'd gladly give up their 2nd round pick for him, but the contract offer that Miles would be willing to sign. Like I said, when other teams start sniffing around, his value will go up and who knows what types of offers he'll get.

As far as us matching those offers, well, I don't think they'll see it as a practical choice unless they're planning to release Owens outright. We have Sam Hurd coming back, Stainback coming back, plus Owens, RW, and Crayton ( and that's before the draft ). Personally I think Austin is much better than Hurd, Stainback, and even Crayton ( in some things ), but unfortunately he's a RFA while the others are not. It's a matter of numbers.

Now, if the Cowboys release T.O, then that's a different ball of wax..

I'd 2nd tender Austin allowing us to work out a longer contract and smile if/when someone hands us a 2nd for him. It looked like he was finally putting it together, but if I would rather grab two trenches guys in the 2nd, or package picks to grab an absolute stud OT/OG in the first. Fix both lines and the rest of the players magically look better.

Not that it means anything, but Welker was far from an unknown with 96 receptions and his excellent returns. I wanted him and couldn't believe that Miami let him get away.

96 reception and 1 touchdown: in 4 years.

Originally he was, basically, a " want " player. The Patriots " wanted " him because he played well against them for 2 years. Welker himself was shocked that the Patriots gave him that offer and said so in a radio interview down here with Joe Rose on WQAM.

The Dullphins saw him as a 3rd receiver/slot guy who could return kicks, just like about most of the rest of the league did.

The problem is that Austin is worth something in between the 1st and 2nd tender. Give him the first and you lose half a million or so and he's unrestricted next year anyway. That half a million is probably worth it, everything else equal but unfortunately everything else isn't equal -- our funds are not unlimited this year. Give him the 2nd and you lose him now and get a rookie as his roster spot replacement.

The other option is to sign him long-term. Isn't this exactly one of our regrets these days -- giving long-term contracts to guys we're not sure about?

I say give him the 1st.

Miles will be lucky to have 25 catches next eyar!

Roy Williams is lucky he signed a big deal, because Miles Austin is the 2nd best wide receiver on our team.

with or without Owens, Dallas is taking a big cap hit. I don't think there's anyway dallas can get into a bidding war for Austin
