Donovan Ezeiruaku has the most pressures on the Dallas Cowboys with 10

Now with a legit CB added - he might get that extra split second he needs.
Right now the defense is ranked 29th in "time to throw" against this season at 2.54 seconds. The average is 2.35 seconds. They should already have the split second they need when compared to other teams.

While I like the trade, and have no issues with Porter, not sure this addresses the fact that we thus far haven't been able to, as a unit (not an indictment on Eze), generate enough pressure. As many have said, they may not be done improving the defense. I hope so because lowering how much time the QB has in the pocket is a much bigger concern than giving them the extra split second (imho of course). Yes, I do understand the injuries and fact we can't effectively cover right now effect that number somewhat as well.

there is pressure, and then there is EFFECTIVE pressure
So much so. Exactly.

Everybody is amazing but were historically bad. Make it make sense. Downs is a beast, Barham is a beast, Q is a beast, EZE is a beast, we just added another beast in JPJ. Who am I missing?

Yeah pressure rate alone typically doesn’t tell the story. I want players creating pressure, but also need to know how quickly they’re getting pressure, how many guys are you sending, and how many blockers does the offense have? I mean you can get pressure 100% of the time if you send 6 guys vs 5OL
Exactly.
Your explanation here and our previous discussions on pressures give me pause on pressures as a stat in general.

I remember our one past discussion on quick pressure win rate and whether the outcome of the play should be considered when crediting a pressure.

To me, this metric lacks genuine consistency and a clearly defined explanation as to what is and isn't a pressure.

With all of this said, its just my own personal opinion that the subjectivity variable is just too broad when PFF tries to measure pressures. It's like a gray area stat to me.

My opinion.

As far as pressures, I just to know how many result in an incomplete pass, or even a check down below the sticks on 3rd. Your job as a rusher is to effect the passing game. If your non sack pressures arent doing that, what good are they

I will add that for young players like Ezeiruaku and Lawrence, it can be a way to chart growth. Unfortunately for us right now, Ezeiruaku is our best rusher. He is on pace for 6 sacks generously (thats counting an half sack as a full btw). Thats not going to cut it

Pressures allowed for OT's is a better use of the stat
Exactly bro. Your first paragraph had myself and Thunderpimp in a deep discussion from last year's Dallas v. Packer game.
To put it simply while Micah practically lived in the Dallas backfield and set some kind of record for pressures, Dak still got rid of it too quickly and dropped 40 points on them.
So where's the credibility in that?
That's what I said.

The funny thing was after being denied all game long in that game Micah did finally get a sack on Dak at the most crucial moment to prevent a Cowboy TD in OT and allowing Crosby the chance for the game ending and tying FG.

The actual sack was the difference between a tie and a loss.
Not all the pressures.

It’s a tough one. Sometimes pressures are extremely valuable, sometimes not. I do hope the advanced metric industry moves away from generic “pressure rates” and back to the breakdown of Hurries/hits/sacks model. An all encompassing stat is easier to share on twitter though so I doubt that happens.

Raw pressures might matter against weak or young QB's. To emphasize @gtb1943 point, and experienced Pro Bowl caliber CB isnt going to be effected because he know where the ball is going and its out his hands before he feels any pressure. Guys like that you need to either out down or get to them fast enough to where they check it down

Yep, you're on the same page as me bro. It's like you mentioned earlier that there should be some "outcome of the play" taken into consideration to give the stat any value.

I mean, does anybody really care if an edge beat his man and ALMOST sacks the QB while the QB is still able to make a TD pass?

Are they really gonna measure almosts as some quantifiable metric even though the overall net result was still giving up a TD?

I'm with you, trust me.

in todays NFL how many "Statue" QB's are there? Pressure on Brady was a good tool, pressure on todays QB is just the start of the scramble drill that has a better than 20% chance of getting your CB burned if you don't get him down.. Pressure changed the "Pocket Passer's" clock, it just tells Lamar, P Mahomes, Allen etc its time to get outside the pocket and do some real damage.
i’m surprised i never considered this. thanks

i honestly think sone of it’s been fluky, and some has been untimely. the pieces are there.
