Im sorry but I dont see why they keep saying Doug Free is the next guy were banking on at LT.

I liked Free at RT but he didnt come up big at LT when he played the part.

IMO we need to get Gaither or draft a LT in the first round this year. I think LT is a franchise position and I just dont believe Free is our Franchise guy.
Mostly they say it because the team believes it. He has enough potential for them to like what they have. It really isn't any big secret or a dilemma. The team likes Doug Free and has faith in him.

Man I can't believe how little faith some people have in Free especially since they are basing it on one game in a very difficult situation. The guy can play and if he is given the chance to practice exclusively at the LT position he will prove it.

I'm willing to give Free a shot. He certainly has raised his game more than we thought he would after last year's camp.

We have seen free in a NFL game at LT. So if you compared that to any draft prospect, we know a lot more. And despite what some say, playing LT and RT is NOT that different. You are trying to protect your QB and block for the RB. Clearly there are differences there but they are not night and day. So they have seen him practice and play at RT, which should give them a good idea at what he can do at LT.

Truth of the matter is Doug Free is BETTER than Gaither. Why in the world would we give up a high draft pick AND pay out a huge salary for someone who isnt as good as who we had. Check Gaithers stats regarding sacks given up, QB hits allowed, then check Free's. Get back to me on it....:D Free is the better player.

:lmao2:

If this team has faith in Free @ LT than show it by cutting Flozell and his terrible contract.

It is hard to switch like that in a game. Free had been playing the RT spot for half the season to judge him off the Vikes game with no practice time on the other side is asking allot.

Free did a heck of a job don't get me wrong but I don't trust him enough to play him a season at LT without more evidence and Flo and Hamlin have to go this season. Losing those 2 contracts is as good as a big signing.

My hope is that we manage to keep our 1st round pick somehow and get Gaither but I doubt Baltimore will let him walk for anything less.

So lemme see If I can get this straight. The team has pretty much been devoid of young offensive line talent for eons. We finally get one in Doug Free.
Besides being listed as one of the sleepers of his draft by certain scouts, all the guy does is go out the last couple preseasons and perform at a high level.

Then, when finally called upon to perform in a starting role he goes out and performs at an extremely high level. He allows one sack in 7 starts, keeps his penalties down, and shows to have major athleticism in the run game. Truthfully, outside of Kosier he is the only lineman we currently have that has the wheels to get on his horse and get into the second level of defenders, hugely important in the running game.

All this and SOME want to relegate him to career backup status??????:D

It seems that one thing this team has learned is that players can (gasp) be developed to realize their potential. Free has been brought along the right way and will be a very good starter for this line for the next seven years. Look for Brewster to have another year or two to develop and he will do the same.

Nope. Just don't want to see him taking snaps at Left Tackle anytime soon for a long period of time.

A couple years from now i'd love to see him take Colombos spot.

But if Dallas had faith in Free to man down the LT spot then they would tell Flo goodbye in this uncapped year. After all if Free is the eventual guy than Flo is nothing but a progress stopper at age 35 right?

If they do it than i'll stand by the decision but I doubt anyone in Cowboy land wants to let the season basically rest on Doug Free's shoulders.

Im one to shoot from the hip, not gonna bother looking it all up as Ive got a pretty good memory for anything Boyz related so I know im close.

Mark Tuinei, originally drafted in round 7 as a d.t, or was he a street free agent???

Larry Allen, round 2

Mark Stepnoski, round 2 drafted by Raiders

Nate Newton...Freeagent usfl refugee

Kevin Gogan...round 5 or 6 I believe

Eric Williams...Round 3

Whats all this mean?? Not much other than the fact that a dominant O.L doesnt always have to come in the form of a 1st round pick. In fact, NONE of our lineman from one of the greatest O lines in NFL history came in round one.

I think they are going to tell Flozell goodbye this summer. IMO, its been a long time coming.

And I dont think they will because I believe they still view Flozell as a better player than Free.

If they draft a tackle in the draft than maybe.

Dont get me wrong, its not that I hate Flo or anything. He's alright. I just never thought he was anywhere near as good as what some think he is.

To me anyway Flo symbolizes whats been wrong in some areas of the team the last decade. He's a guy who COULD HAVE been dominant if he had THE DRIVE. I see him as somewhat lazy. He knows he can get by on natural talent so he takes some plays off now and again. Does alot of REACHING and PUSHING in the run game, rarely looks for a defender at the second level after laying a block on the 1st. That would take wheels, athleticism, and more importantly DRIVE. That type of run blocking is all about WANT TO, I never thought Flo had that.

He is a fine passblocker though when he is on his game and is driven. Too bad he is only asked to pass block a little over 50 percent of the time....;)

Yep. When are the fans going to realize it?
