Looney has proven to be a not great, but adequate starter over 16 games.Looney is way over valued here...he is not a starting caliber OL. He will get you through some games but will be a weakness through the course of a season. McGovern hasn't played center in a couple years and had his rookie year ruined by injury. You think that is something to count on? I am not saying pick Ruiz in the 1st..I am just saying it is more of a need than people are thinking.
The 50+ sacks given up in 2018 keeps being repeated around here, and most conclude "Frederick was out, Looney was in = Looney bad." Looney was actually only credited with giving up 1 sack that season by PFF.
People forget that Su'a-Filo started 8 games that season and was a huge liability in the passing game. That was also Connor Williams' rookie season where he struggled in pass pro at times as well.
Having Looney + Connor McGovern, who many called a draft day steal and was a 2nd round value, competing for a starting job isn't the worst position to be in.
