Looney is way over valued here...he is not a starting caliber OL. He will get you through some games but will be a weakness through the course of a season. McGovern hasn't played center in a couple years and had his rookie year ruined by injury. You think that is something to count on? I am not saying pick Ruiz in the 1st..I am just saying it is more of a need than people are thinking.
Looney has proven to be a not great, but adequate starter over 16 games.

The 50+ sacks given up in 2018 keeps being repeated around here, and most conclude "Frederick was out, Looney was in = Looney bad." Looney was actually only credited with giving up 1 sack that season by PFF.

People forget that Su'a-Filo started 8 games that season and was a huge liability in the passing game. That was also Connor Williams' rookie season where he struggled in pass pro at times as well.

Having Looney + Connor McGovern, who many called a draft day steal and was a 2nd round value, competing for a starting job isn't the worst position to be in.

Great post. I also just read something similar stating that year we were still top 15 in pass protection.

Part of the sacks are on Dak.

Dak also deserves part of the blame. How many times did he hold the ball too long?

Dak improved dramatically last season in getting rid of the ball quickly.

XSF because a folk hero. He played admirably for a guy we picked up off the street. But that doesnt he was a quality player. He was absolutely horrendous in pass protection

whats weird? character??

Yea, went to Michigain and kind of just quit on them then transferred to UCLA and kinda quit on them and was going to transfer again. All of this was because of a GF type thing, lot of rumors on what it was really contributing to all of it but there's a reason he was a top recruit and far better than anyone on that poor UCLA team and only saw some playing time and production this past year.
