I'm a dog on a bone....

On Glover actually I was pro keeping him to play both 4-3 and 3-4. Many said he could not do that - they were wrong.....
2006 - its time to upgrade at his age/Cap/size....

I just had to go back to see what you said very interesting indeed.

We get that FA crop?

I'm rockin with ya, not buying Glover a true 3-4 NT - but a guy that can be moved around some. Also, Glenn has a bigger role.

Glover?

How old is he? Always been very small - did you see him getting blown into the end zone on that run play last week. They replayed it and he was driven seven yards off the line of scrimmage. He's a very good player towards the end of a career.

We are sorely lacking size on our front Seven thats for sure and its being exploited.

lOOK AT THOSE dt, de NAMES! WHO?

Ellis can play at 280, Glover at 275 is a problem wherever you line him up. Coileman has size - we are lacking NT - Draft FA.

Hartwell and lots of 3-4 type DE/LB's in this draft. Look for DE's a tad small (Pollack) and LB's with size.

We get a destructive defense next year and solidify QB we can be real dangerous.

hmmm

Maryland and Glover are very similar. Undersized DT's that had a good burst, penetration, disruptive.

I want a 6-6 DT that is a disrupter in the middle - go find him. Starks? lol

What?
Ban someone for discussing what Parcells said today regarding 3-4?

Thats wrong.

Fact is Parcells said he had "plenty" of 3-4 De's. Glover is one of them.............

He said they were lacking the LB's. He said they were looking at DE's that he can move to LB..............

I liked this one too

Does anyone listen?

I have NEVER advocated Base 3-4, I've advocated the ability to play 3-4 15-25% of the time. To be a diverse and not predictable D.

Glovers Play Is On Decline, I'm not staying 4-3 for him

The Defense is broken!!!!!!!!!! He will benefit from a large NT and 3-4 DE's are hybrid DT's in reality. He will excel at 3-4 DE. He's an interior player who will wreak havoc wherever you line him up.

4-3
3-4

We will play both next year!

There are so many more from looking at them Nors didn't think we would be 3-4 full time, Glover would be a DE and in one post he said Glover at LB, Said we would move Glenn or Henry To FS, Replace Glover in many many posts.

The best one is where he said he never advocated being a 3-4 team

Bingo on adding FerGuson as large 3-4 NT

Almost always have advocated 3-4 base defense with some 4-3 looks.

Thats what Bellicheck/Parcells have always done.

Glover is getting older and is too small to play full time 3-4 and his roatation is down. Ferguson will be on field more and more.

I liked Glover to be what he is - a transitional NT. I thought he could and still do play in both schemes! Veteran player.

I was much more critical on Ellis handling transition.

Hammerhead - thanks for making my points!

most all of that was pre signing NT Ferguson and drafting Front 7 beef!

Always advocated 3-4 with 4-3 looks? BS go back and read your posts:

Seems to me the nothing but 3-4 argument came later

Glover is the starter you never expected that Heck you didnt expect him at NT

I liked Glover to be what he is - a transitional NT.

Nice try at the Spin but you said repeatedly he would be a DE not NT and he isnt situational he is the starter lol

I was much more critical on Ellis handling transition.

If by critical you mean wrong then ok

You continue to prove all my points. Thanks

Ferguson NT signed, Aging Glovers role reduced - Fact
I said Glover could play in both schemes. Always contended that
3-4 and some 4-3 as I stated in your cut/paste - spot on

I'm suprised Ellis has handled 3-4 but with Spears, Canty, Rat getting increased reps it could prolong his career.

Thanks again for proving my points!

Okey dokey... I'll do it just a bit differently, at first I'll offer a few alternatives for each pick, in order of my preference, then at the end I'll lay out how I'd do it if everything broke right... but I won't be projecting any trades of veterans...

FIRST ROUND:

Marcus McNeil, OT, Auburn... 6-9, 340 pounds, 5.25 sec. 40
Jonathon Scott, OT, Texas... 6-7, 310 pounds, 5.2 sec. 40
Rodrique Wright, DT, Texas... 6-4, 316 pounds, 4.95 sec. 40

If the Cowboys stay in the first round (if they're drafting as low as I expect them to, certainly after pick 20, I'd think seriously about trading down into the early 2nd round and add another 2nd or 3rd rounder), then I say go for offensive line help...

SECOND ROUND:

Michael Huff, FS, Texas... 6-1, 205 pounds, 4.45 sec. 40
Martin Nance, WR, Miami-Ohio... 6-5, 216 pounds, 4.45 sec. 40...
Max-Jean Gilles, OG, Georgia... 6-4, 340 pounds, 5.25 sec. 40...
Mike DeGory, C, Florida... 6-5, 316 pounds, 5.25 sec. 40...
Bobby Carpenter, OLB, Ohio State... 6-3, 240 pounds, 4.55 sec. 40...
Elvis Dumerville, DE/OLB, Louisville... 6-1, 250 pounds, 4.6 sec. 40...

Gotta upgrade at FS, and I'd do so in free agency and in the draft... put a dynamic player in that slot, and this defense could get scary good, IMO... if the Boys did trade down some, Nance would be a solid addition at WR, or Gilles or DeGory would be quality additions to the interior of the OL...

THIRD ROUND:

Matt Bernstein, FB, Wisconsin... 6-1, 265 pounds, 4.7 sec. 40...
Jason Allen, FS/CB, Tennessee... 6-2, 200 pounds, 4.45 sec. 40...
Todd Watkins, WR, BYU... 6-3, 195 pounds, 4.35 sec. 40...
Thomas Howard, OLB, UTEP... 6-3, 240 pounds, 4.45 sec. 40...
Donnie McCleskey, CB/FS, Cal... 5-10, 195 pounds, 4.45 sec. 40...
Chijioke Oyenegeche, CB, Oklahoma... 6-1, 205 pounds, 4.35 sec. 40

The sheer number of interesting prospects in this round is one big reason why I'd contemplate trading down out of the first round, in the hopes of adding two players at this point... Bernstein seems to me to be a Parcells-type FB, he can run the ball and catch it too... Allen would have been a first rounder if he hadn't hurt his hip pretty bad this season, perhaps he could be this draft's Chris Canty... Watkins is the fastest of the blue-chip wideouts in this draft... Howard is blazing fast for a LB, I think of him as a bigger, more physical Dexter Coakley... he has a big-play rep...

FIFTH ROUND:

Ryan Cook, C/OT, New Mexico... 6-7, 340 pounds, 5.3 sec. 40...
Kwakou Robinson, DT, Virginia... 6-4, 325 pounds, 5.0 sec. 40...
Will Allen, OG/C Texas... 6-6, 310 pounds, 5.3 sec. 40...
Reed Doughty, S, Northern Colorado... 6-1, 210 pounds, 4.5 sec. 40

If the Boys want to get bigger at center, Cook is the way to go... Allen would also make a nice backup, with his ability to play center and guard... Robinson has experience working in a Parcells-type defense under Al Groh at Virginia, though he's not really a classic NT... injuries have kept him from reaching his potential in college... Doughty is leading the nation in tackles the last I checked, averaging right at 15 a game... he's had over 400 tackles in his career, and has some cover skills, racking up 12 ints thus far in his college career... he's one of my Super Sleeper Specials...

SIXTH ROUND:

Barrick Nealy, QB, Texas State... 6-4, 230 pounds, 4.75 sec. 40...
William Winston, OT, Texas... 6-7, 350 pounds, 5.35 sec. 40...
Zac Tubbs, OT, Arkansas... 6-6, 350 pounds, 5.35 sec. 40...

I strongly believe that the best value to be found in the late rounds of any draft is to be found on the offensive line... but Nealy is a really intriguing QB prospect on the I-AA level, leading Texas State to a 7-2 record this season (including a competitive, 44-31 loss to Texas A&M at A&M)...

SEVENTH ROUND:

Toby Ziegler, WR, Northwestern St. (La.)... 6-1, 195, 4.4 sec. 40...
Jerad Estes, RB, Midwestern State... 6-1, 210 pounds, 4.4 sec. 40...
Patrick Cobbs, RB, North Texas... 5-9, 200 pounds, 4.5 sec. 40...
Jose Garcia, OG, UTEP... 6-2, 316 pounds, 5.3 sec. 40...

My draft to this point hasn't really paid a lot of attention to the offensive skill positions, hence the choices here... these picks have a nice "local" flavor to them, too, 3 players from Texas, 1 from Louisiana...

So, if things shook out more or less the way I see them in this analysis, here's what I'd do:

2a) (trade down): Michael Huff, FS, Texas...
2b) Martin Nance, WR, Miami-Ohio...
3a) Matt Bernstein, FB, Wisconsin...
3b) Thomas Howard, OLB, UTEP...
5) Ryan Cook, C/OT, New Mexico...
6) Barrick Nealy, QB, Texas State...
7) Jose Garcia, OG, UTEP...

Hmmm, I just recognized that I have the Boys drafting 2 Miners here... yeah, I'm a little biased... LOL...

I believe this draft addresses a lot of holes on the roster, and I believe the players recommended are currently rated by the "experts" about where I have them listed... of course, what the Boys do in free agency will have some impact on their draft decisions, but at this early date, I could live with this mock...
Good take - I like Carpenter a LOT -

Dang it. We agree on something. Carpenter is by far my favorite draft prospect right now. A custom fit for this defense. Make Fujita a reserve.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a mid round back picked up either. A RA clone.

Bobby Carpenter is my choice in the first round too. He's big and talented and is a perfect fit for the Dallas D. A real playmaker. But another guy I REALLY like is Elvis Dumervil. He had two sacks as a soph, 10 as a junior and has totaled *20* so far this year, 4 shy of Suggs' record. He's only 6' tall, but he weighs 256 pounds, has freakish long arms and a quick first step. (Freeney is 6-1, 265.) I think Dumervil may be a steal in the early second, a real impact-type player at the OLB spot in Parcells' 3-4.

Blue goes in 1st to early 2nd.

I like Ngata, Carpenter as targets first 2 rounds. I can also see us trading plaers or future picks to get 2 1sts. Imagine 2 MEGA drafts back to back? The future is NOW

Im thinking we are trading out of the first too. Instead of getting a 2nd, 3rd and late pick we get a 2nd,4th and a 1st next year.

2a. Chad Jackson WR UF
2b. Mike Huff FS- UT
3. Max-Jean Gilles, OG, Georgia
4. Matt Bernstein, FB, Wisconsin My favorite pick in this draft
5. Chijioke Oyenegeche, CB, Oklahoma
6. OG/OT depth
7. Dline depth/Developmental QB.
I also think we will chase after either Chris Hope or Will Demps.

God, I can't say enough about Michael Huff. I saw plenty of him at Nimitz HS in Irving, not far from here. But that kid keeps impressing every time out. He is a FS (can also play corner) and leader of a pretty darn salty UT secondary. Gene Chizik and Duane Akina, the Texas DCs have such confidence in the kid and his intelligence, he is allowed the freedom to check out of defensive calls and change coverages that were sent in originally.

Huff plays smart and he plays fast. Great ball skills too.
