These are some lofty projections for a guy who racked up big numbers vs mostly Mountain West defenses ........ then goes for 3.5 YPC and fumbles twice in the biggest game of his career against a real defense. The Emmitt comparisons are laughably premature. Emmitt played against top tier defenses multiple times every year in college and played his best when the most was on the line. Anyone want to guess what Emmitt or Barry Sanders or even Saquan Barkley would do to Mountain West defenses when they were in college?

Drafting this kid #12 is stupid not only in terms of projecting his Mountain West numbers into the NFL but also in terms of cap value wasting a rookie contract on one of the least expensive positions to pay.
Sound like you will complain about it until he starts helping us win some games.

I can tell you that I can't find a single Boise State O-lineman listed as an early draft prospect.

There might be one on some list of draft prospects but i haven't found him yet. I haven't found any yet no matter how low I look on these lists.

Isn't that odd?

This guy rushes for over 2600 yards in a single season......the 2nd most in college history.........got his first 1000 yards after five games......took six more games to get to 2000..........where are the obvious behemoths that cleared the way?

Jeanty will be taken long before the #12 pick.
At least 2 qbs and that could change to 3 and at least 2 olinemen will go in top 10. Travis Hunter will go. Mason Graham and Abdul Carter should go. Tet McMillan should go. I suspect that another corner should go and Burden could go. That's 11 right there. Jeanty could very well drop to 12.

The counter to this is that he never faced a legit big time run D until he saw PSU and he got shut down.

So while he may not have had great OL blocking for him, he also rarely ever faced a defense that could present problems.

So the question is did he feast on mostly bad defenses or was he really that good overcoming bad OL play?

The fact that is a question along with the fact this team has other pressing needs as well makes it hard to justify taking him at 12.

Value is defined by production not by position. A running back that forces opposing defenses to keep seven in the box, and is a homerun threat, is every bit as valuable as a stud DT.
Not in todays NFL. RBs are far more reliant on what's around them than any other position IMO.

Take Barkley. He was a good RB for the Giants. Then he got put on a team with a much better OL, better QB, better WRs and suddenly he looks better than ever.

People thinking Jeanty is somehow going to change the face of our offense are likely going to be disappointed given the fact we still have some OL questions, the QB is in flux and outside of Lamb, we have really zero passing threats outside.

He got over 100 yards against Penn State and that's with his oline being over matched. It isn't hard to justify taking the bpa at 12.

On 30 carries.

He was shut down by PSU and made largely ineffective all game outside of one 26 yard run.

I think that he had more yards rushing against Penn State than any other back all season.

Dowdle inside the 5 had been replaced earlier part of the year for Zeke . That kept his TD totals down but I recall several TD catches in the end zone .

Would have had another TD catch if Lance had actually thrown it to him last game instead of the dirt .

Dowdle also seems to have a fumbling problem near the goal line that has to get corrected

If he’s there at 12 I pounce and won’t look back. He’s will transform this offense.

Again total rushing yards doesn't tell the entire story given he needed 30 carries to get 104 yards. Plus a lot of teams split carries and don't feed a back like BSU did in that game. But if you look at the OSU game, for example, Judkins and Henderson were may more effective than Jeanty. Judkins had 14 carries for 96 yards, 6.8 ypc, and Henderson had 10 for 54 yards, 5.4 ypc. Compare that to Jeanty's 3.5 ypc in the PSU game.

Oregon also split carries - James had 20 carries for 88 yards, 4.4 ypc, and Whittingham had 82 yards on 15 carries, 5.5 ypc. Again, both were more effective than Jeanty.

In the USC game, Woody Marks had 111 yards on 20 carries, 5.6 ypc.

How bad his OL play was vs how well he over performed balances out the inferior competiton.

I want no part of a RB in the 1st…but the fact people are questioning his ability on here is absolutely mind blowing.

He’s arguably the safest pick in the entire class.

Jeanty is a top 6 player in this draft period. The only possible negative is the number of carries he already has. Nothing in the Penn State game changed his draft status. He should be bpa at 12 and maybe he does go higher. Nothing wrong with taking bpa at 12. His character traits make him a solid choice.

One, he's not the safest pick in the draft. Frankly, that's Abdul Carter to me. Graham would be my #2.

Two, people aren't necessarily questioning his ability. What they are doing is weighing multiple factors:

1) People act like he's a generational talent. People are talking about how he would "transform" this offense. Is he really that good? To me, he's the best RB in the draft but he's not a once in a lifetime type talent at TB and frankly, the drop off to the next tier of RBs isn't that massive.

2) This team, with the way they build, can't afford to use a top pick on a TB and think that's what puts us over the hump. We literally tried this logic with Elliott and while he was quite good, we never got the return on investment there. And that was with, at that time, one of the most dominant OLs in football and Cowboys history. And even still, Elliott never got us beyond what was our previous ceiling - make a SB run.

This team has continued year after year to have some of the same issues, specifically along the DL. I can't justify pulling 2016 all over and using a prime pick on a TB, ignore our continued biggest problem and then think this won't end any differently than the strategy to draft Elliott.

Except when your franchise sits out FA and relies solely on the draft to fill holes, you can't use the 12th pick on a RB if there are high quality DL sitting there.

We will just get the same results we've gotten for years.

Now, if you can tell me that we will spend some money in FA and bring in a really good vet DT and maybe another pass rusher? OK, then I can live with Jeanty at 12. But if we don't and the board falls a certain way where Jeanty is there at 12 and then a couple of similarly ranked DL prospects (or maybe even rated slightly lower). It's a no brainer. You go defense there.

It doesn't look like they will sit out free agency this year. They certainly can use 12th pick on bpa. We will see what happens, but it appears that Parsons want to sign ASAP and he is putting pressure on Jerry to sign some free agents.

LOL, don't be duped.

Believe they will spend money in FA when they actually do spend money. And we'll know. FA starts long before the draft. If they do jack squat again, it's even more obvious they can't use the 1st pick on a RB if there are competent DL sitting there. Again, don't ignore that this model of grabbing a TB early wasn't tried already by Jerry and resulted in basically nothing better than what we had seen over the previous two decades.

Which is why I said arguably. Carter has 1 year of production and still needs to improve his instincts at the position change so I love him but people could argue “1 year wonder.”

1. I don’t think he’s generational - but in a weak class he’s clearly one of the best 3ish players.

2. Agree

I think you missed my point…I said I wanted no part of a RB in the 1st. My point is he’s a top 3ish talent in this class and I’ve seen multiple posters literally act like he isn’t good bc of his game against PSU. Completely insane IMO - if anything his 100+ yards and 10+ broken tackles solidified how good he is for me considered the talent difference between the teams. He’s about as can’t miss as you can get barring medicals or off the field stuff we don’t know about.
