@CBS11BillJones: suspect Cowboys will try to deal Kyle Wilber to a 3-4 team...try to get a pick for him...just speculating....doesn't seem like a fit in 4-3

I have been saying for a while now that Wilber just doesn't fit in this defense. He's too tall and lacks the movement skills for a Kiffin 43 OLB, and he's too small to play DE for us.

Albright is in the same boat... but he's big enough where he might be able to play some DE (ie. Ware's backup on the weakside).

It doesn't surprise me at all to see us bring in a 6-1 230 lb guy... which is about right for a 43 OLB.

Far too early for that. Now if he can establish himself as a good special teams player, then he'd likely get interest down the road.

Someone should make a thread about Romo having the 12th best line. Aaron Rodgers has a horrible line and he still dominates.

Maybe you should go off and do that while the adults talk football, thanks.

Just build a great defense because Romo is going to screw up.

So you come into a thread about a linebacker signing and then proceed to crap on Romo, huh?

You are a poster that Reality warned about!!

How long before we hear Mara has complained to the league about this and wants the league to disallow the signing because the Cowboys didn't have the cap room when the agreement was made? Would that really surprise anyone?

There's nothing against the rules about agreeing to terms with a team.

If the kid is a football player & you have coaches who coach, then they can find a place to put him where he can succeed. Bill Jones is silly, the kid is in his 2nd year & was drafted in the 4th round. You don't just give up on the kid, & he can easily provide snaps on special teams while trying to find his role on the team.

Mara will make some new ones!

Would kind of ruin that whole new three-day window thing. Free agents can meet with teams and agree to deals during that time but can't sign until free agency begins.

Good move. Love having competition at the SAM spot. Sims, Durant and Albright are all quality depth players and all improvements over Connor and Poppinga last year.

Exactly. Figure the contract isn't too high and Sims, Durant, Albright and even Wilbur can battle it out for the SAM. Then we'll have other guys in place to back up at the other spots (although all of these guys would be a pretty severe drop off from Lee/Carter).

I wonder if it's more likely that Sims isn't really in the running for SLB, but is more of a backup in case of injury. Seems to me that he's the only one who could be capable in the middle.

Then there's McSurdy... although anything more than a special teams guy is probably wishful thinking.

But bottom line in an even swap, I think Durant is an upgrade from Connor.

That rule was pretty funny. Made up just so there's some plausible deniability for things like all those signed-at-midnight deals of the past.

Anyway, hope the signing of Durant works out, sounds like the right kind of deal to me.

We will have to thin out the linebacker corps by the end of camp, so it's possible he could be traded then if he proves to be a poor fit.

Right now, we have Lee, Carter, Durant, Sims, Albright, Wilber, Lemon and McSurdy.

I think the last two are the most probable to be cut because they are both slower players and might not fare as well in coverage. but both are instinctual players.

We also have Cameron Sheffield, but I don't know much about him.

And it probably still got broken. Teams want to be the first and only stop for FAs, so they will always look to get a jump on their opposition.

So the offseason FAs so far are:

Spencer
Sims
Durant

And no real losses due to FA though we did have some cuts.

So far, it really isn't horrible.
Could be better--though I'm trying to think what FA so far would radically upgrade our team and be worth the price.
Could be worse.

Well, we lost F Jones, Jenkins, Phillips and V Butler. I guess it depends on what we consider "real" losses. They're contracts were up and they are FA's now, but we knew that going in so no SURPRISE FA losses as of yet. Of those 4 guys, I think Jenkins will be significant. When he signs elsewhere, he'll be starting and probably play pretty well. In an prefect world, I wouldn't mind having Jenkins around. Phillips got a nice paycheck. Even with Hanna's rise, it's chalked up as a loss.

But basically, if by real, you mean losses that would significantly hurt us and we'll miss, then I agree.
