I would have liked it if our third pick was not a TE (despite his skills it was not a position that needed immediate attention, so don't get them in a twist -- again -- NAV!!!!)

Also, we should have looked at FA for a third-string RB (again, though Choice has his advocates and his college record seems stellar, TE and RB [after Jones] did not seem to be immediate needs to be filled in the earlier rounds of the draft.)

But in the first round, F. Jones and Jenks are solid. Those two alone constitute a high B or an A.
After that, it wasn't much to write home about.

Here is an example of why you need a good blocking TE. I love Witten but he got blown up on this play. Yes the nose guard comes in but the back is suppose to be gone instead Witten takes everybody out because he got blown up.

The late start to Day 1 and the early start to Day 2.

yes these were terrible times......2pm Sat and 9am Sun....*** who thought of that.........

And was very disappointed in the fans (myself included) for being so hard on Jerry and the staff for doing what we have wanted them to do for years take best player instead of trying to reach for need...we had a great draft ....we have a very good team with VERY few spots in question and we filled most......there wasnt ANY receiver in this draft who was gonna come in here and take anyones job in camp......be glad we finally have a team so good that we are now just adding depth....we will get a WR in time....

1) Schefter spoiling the picks (adios, drama).
2. ESPN letting several picks go by, and then analyzing them en masse. Pure laziness.

I was dissapointed that the boys didn't trade up in the 2nd and taken Phillips.
Scandrick would of not been needed and a NT or FB could of been chosen instead. Plus Roys replacement would be in uniform.

For me at first was the Mendenhal -Jones debacle...But really the low point was selecting a TE over a WR and letting the Giants take MArio. That has to be the low point, What was Jerry thinking? a TE? Time to give up that Gm hat Jerry.

Initially, after having missed the draft do to a family event, I was shocked to say the least. So shocked I just erased it off my DVR because I was not going to sit and watch that unfold. Even as a whole this year, the draft really didn't do much to impress me. With a little time though I am coming to accept our picks. I think they'll do alright for us.

Still think it would have been wiser to have grabbed one of all the WRs still left on the board when we picked at 22 over picking Felix. Had we been going for a clear-cut everydown back, I would not have had a problem. I just don't think we needed to reach so high for a supporting player for Barber. Now if we knew Barber was in fact just a part time back, then that would be another thing. But I just don't think we know that one way or the other yet, so we could have taken a risk at another position and let this one cool for another year I think.

At first it was the Mendenhall/Jones thing. But after thinking about it and then reading more about Jones, I good with it.

But the thing that really got me was passing on Manningham and letting him go to the gints. I think that will haunt us down the road.

Stacked with receivers better than the bums in this draft!

Yeah... we should have taken Manningham over Bennett.
Even though Bennett is a MUCH better prospect with MUCH better character.

Exactly how is a better prospect? HE will be playing at least in a back up role behind Witten and maybe a 3rd string position behind Curtis. Manningham at least would be in a position to make some contributions right now.

As for the character, if we were so concerned with it we should have ditched Pacman.

Contributions where? As the 4th or 5th or 6th receiver? lol

Did you pay attention to how much the cowboys ran 2 and 3 TE sets in the red zone last season?

The 2 TE set is a big part of the Cowboys red zone offense.
I guarantee you Bennett will see more balls thrown his way than Manningham would have. Wouldn't you say that's the reason Garrett took him?

Pluse - the signing of Bartell will give Witten more opportunities down the field.

Jason Garrett wanted the guy... i'd be willing to bet he weighed more than both of us how much Bennett would contribute as opposed to Manningham.

lol.. or are you saying you know more about our offensive needs than JG?

Bartell is the better prospect because they are comparably ranked - but Manningham has huge character concerns.

Plus i saw a few analysts saying thet if Bennett had stayed in school another year - he'd probably be the 1st TE taken in the draft next year.

So obviously the dude has great up side.
Greater than Manningham who has more "down"side.

I don't ook at him as a bcak - the same way i don't view Felix Jones or whomever our 3rd corner as a back up.

He'll contribute. If not this year - next year.

So you think that Manningham would not have been able to beat out Miles Austin? Are you kidding? He barely beat out Jereme Urban last year who was cut. MAnningham has great talent. His problem was lying to coaches at the combine about the drug tests.

As for the TE. Witten had 96 receptions. Fasano and Curtis combined had 17. 4 of those were for TDs.

And if you are telling me that if it is so important to the red zone offense, how come we traded Fasano almighty?

I'm sure we could have added another TE later in the draft that could have given us the 14 catches for 143 yards and a TD that Fasano gave us.

Am I saying I know than JG? No. But seeing how this IS a Cowboys message board I feel free to express my opinion.

lol

My only disappointment was I overcooked the rib's and ran out of my favorite beer. Far as the draft went I think we took care of our biggest needs by far and actually set ourselves up for doing some wheeling and dealing next year to hopefully acquire a good wide receiver, or a monster inside linebacker.
