So you think that Manningham would not have been able to beat out Miles Austin?

Not a given.
According to JJ - he has high hopes that Glenn will be back.
So Manningham won't beat out TO, Glenn, or Crayton.

So basically - he'll be fighting for the 4th, 5th, or 6th spot with Stanback, Hurd, and Austin.

And after spending a high 4th round pick on Stanback - added to the fact that the coaching staff absolutley love this guys potential...
one spot belongs to Stanback. Bet that.

Basically - the other spot could come down to special teams play.

Manningham better than Austin & Hurd on special teams?
Who knows - all i know is - as bad as coverage was last year...
Hurd and Austin were 2 of our better guys.

And why would you spend a 2nd round pick on a special teams guy?

Fasano and Curtis combined had 17. 4 of those were for TDs.

And if you are telling me that if it is so important to the red zone offense, how come we traded Fasano almighty?

lol

Uhh... haven't you read like any articles about Fasano busting routes... and his potential shoulder problems... and the rumors that Jason Garrett didn't think he was a fit for his offense?

You do reallize it is also a TE's job to block right?

Thats why the 2 & 3 TE set is so great fro Red Zone...
you can run out of it effectively- you can pass out of it effectively.

Having those other TEs in ther gives Witten the opportunity to get out in the route more.

That alone makes a 2nd and 3rd TE more important than a 5th or 6th receiver.

I had a few disappointments. But probably the biggest was seeings Jerry's trading streak end. If he could have kept it going we could have had 80 picks in next years draft.

I'm sure we could have added another TE later in the draft that could have given us the 14 catches for 143 yards and a TD that Fasano gave us.

Thats pretty much the idea. Get a guy you think will be better than Fasano was.

You're sitting there in the 2nd and you have the opportunity to grab the top TE on your board...
or the 6th or 7th best receiver on your board, with questionable character,
and a guy that will be possibly competing for 4th or 5th or 6th receiver spot! lol

I would almost garantee you Manningham wouldn't have had the 14 catches, 143 yards, and TD that Fasano gave us.

He definitely wouldn't contribute to the running game and red zone offense.

For me at first was the Mendenhal -Jones debacle...But really the low point was selecting a TE over a WR and letting the Giants take MArio. That has to be the low point, What was Jerry thinking? a TE? Time to give up that Gm hat Jerry.

JERRY a TE? W T F:banghead:

The draft picks we made were all solid

the most disappointing thing was the coverage...ESPN's looks better on the screen, but the coverage itself was pathetic

Liked all of the picks. My low point was only being able to watch a half hour to an hour the entire weekend and most of that was when we were doing all the trading on Sunday.

Anyway, you are assuming Manningham is nothing more than a 5th or 6th wr.

You must not know much about the guy.

Anyway, lol.

Good night.

Manningham had more than one problem:

1) Failed at least two drug tests in college
2) Lied to NFL personnel about the tests and had to write an apology
3) Said he had no regrets "about how he handled the whole thing"
4) Scored a 6 on the Wonderlic test that was characterized as "real and deserved" by a league source (according to PFT)
5) Ran a 4.6+ at the Combine
6) Had a reputation of dropping passes in big games and giving up on routes
7) Was suspended by Carr for being caught with unprescribed Vicodin
8) Was criticized by Carr publicly for his play
9) Was reportedly taken off of multiple teams' draft boards altogether

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Gosselin took him off the top 100 list by the time the draft rolled around. Norm was as unkind as I've ever heard when asked about him.

He may be great in the NFL, but until this point, he's raised a series of flags.

Ummm, he was picked at the end of the third round. #95 overall after we traded back right before that. Are you kidding?

I agree. He had tons of issues. That wasn't my point. As a matter of fact, he was taken off many draft boards. But when you have the luxury of drafting for positions like we were you can take a chance. He most certainly would have beaten out Austin and probably Hurd and then developed from there.

He might have, but given his interviews, I'm not sure he "gets it" yet. They may very well be gunshy about drafting young receivers who don't "get it" after the Antonio Bryant experiment.

It had to be running out of beer before the second round was done.

Next year you and Sarge should come over to my house. I have one firm rule - when we're outta beer... it's time for the wife to run to the store for lottery scratchoffs... "Oh, and pick up a case of beer while you're there, Hon."

<she falls for it every time - dang, I sure love that gal...>

The low point was the really silly whinning of Cowboys fans. This was a very productive, and good all around, draft for the Cowboys and yet people are still upset.

I am not, at all, upset that we missed on Mario. He drops passes in the big games (Ohio State), he wasn't nearly as fast as advertised (Apparently from workouts), he lied about being busted for pot, and later had to admit it, and he got like a 6 on a general IQ test showing that he's really not all that smart.

I'll be surprised if he even gets on the field for New York cause he's probably not bright enough to even learn the playbook.

dont insult your fellow posters dude. Theres no need for that. They are complaining, not whining. Why do people only call things whining when they disagree with it? Its a discussion board here, thats what people are doing.

Although I personaaly think we had a very successful draft, I think my lowest point was seeing Washington getting those to big recievers. Not saying they are the answer to their prayers. Just don't like the thought of playing them twice a yr.

My only real gripe, besides not being able to watch it all, was Berman and the others talking over the Commish (or his represenative)when he announced the picks. I thought thier timing during the broadcast was wayyy off..they just HAD to have a commercial, then come back to tell everyone who got picked. Crap.:bang2:
I thought the Boys picks were pretty good. I wanted another WR but they must be planning a Trade before camp opens up.
Being in Houston, i've seen Bennett play quite abit, and i jumped for joy when he got picked. 2 TE who can catch, block, and run? Awesome:bow:

Thought the boys did extremely well, but must admit that I almost lost it when Dallas traded out of the 3rd. However, it wasn't Manningham that I was hoping for, rather Andre Caldwell.

My biggest disappointment. Easy, having to watch the draft on ESPN, and having to listen to then talk about how smart they are instead of actually covering the draft.....

Good night.

The BEST that Manningham could be this year is a #4 WR, and that is assuming that Terry Glenn can NOT play this year, if Glenn can play, Manningham is at BEST a #5 WR.

And Jerry Jones is on record as saying that they didn't feel that the WR's later in the draft were any better than they guys that we currently have on the roster. Are you saying that the Cowboy scouts do not know much about Manningham either?

As for me, I do know about Manningham, and as a whole while I like him as a player, but he is SUPER raw and needs alot of time, and is not a better player right now than Miles Austin even though Manningham does have a much higher upside. Manningham is very frail for a WR his size and have very questionable hands as well as having a tendency to take plays off when the ball is not coming his way. He also has tried to add weight to his frame before and only had it adversly affect his play on the field by slowing him down and taking away the ONLY think he is able to do right now, and that is get to deep balls. Manningham does NOT run good routes either.

The ESPn braodcast in general was dissappointing and I had a glimmer of hope that when we traded our 3rd rounder to the Lions that it was combined with our #1 next year for the rights to Roy Williams..
