Eagles open to trading Murray

How exactly were we offering him more than he was worth on the market when he signed a much larger deal to play in Philly and he reportedly turned down two even bigger deals in Oakland and Jacksonville?

Jacksonville backed out because the price got too high. Oakland was probably offering him more though.

Please someone catch me up. Haven't paid any attention to NFL since Cowboys last game. I do know that Kelly went somewhere else! Who is the new coach and what kind of offense will they run? Would it be better or worse for Murray? Finally why is Murray unhappy overall? I think if it was me and a new coach coming in, I might want to play for 1 more year, with that kind of money on the line!

The Eagles are pretending the Kelly era never happened.

Lurie's toady Roseman is back in charge and handing out extensions like Oprah does new cars.

Pederson is from the Andy Reid school, so that is what he brings.

Murray is a reminder of their regret.

I was under the impression that he could choose to renegotiate and play for less with another team. That still wouldn't let Philly off the hook for his cap hit against them, as I understand it. I could be wrong about all of this, although me being wrong is a very rare event. :)

He could renegotiate his contract with them but don't see why he would do that since that would mean less money for him. They would still be on the hook for bonus they gave him
But restructuring doesn't change the amount of the contract, just converts money in a different way so that wouldnt help their situation if they traded him

The upfront money they gave him stays with them
The base salary goes with him

He is owed 4 years and 31m with 9m guaranteed. If a team trades for him then they are now on the hook for the full amount.

PHI would have a 4m cap hit, saving 4m.

But if PHI cuts him they owe him another 9m immediately. He would then be a FA after clearing waivers and would be free to sign with anyone with new terms. It is possible that he has offset language that would allow PHI to re-coup part of the 9m depending what the new team paid him.

Your right. I should have said we were offering him more than he was actually worth for the production he was capable of bringing to the market. He obviously was paid market rate, and then underperformed market expectations.

He'll stay in philly becuase nobody will take that contract. Too much to cut him also.

Made an emotional decision and now he regrets it.

At least he gets 9 mill a year for his mistake. Must be nice.

He wasn't even paid "market rate". AP, Lynch, Foster and McCoy are paid more and he outrushed all of them.

Wasn't a huge fan of Murray even in 2014. I think a great back has a season for the ages that year.

I want speed and vision at the position. Murray struggles in both areas.

Time to turn the page.

I don't really want him back, to be clear. It ticks me off that he went to the Eagles with a chip on his shoulder, as if we'd done him wrong.

I do think he fits in well with the team leadership here. And his running style complements what we want to do offensively fairly well. But don't get me wrong, he was readily replaceable and there will be more than one player out there who'd be an upgrade to DM in Dallas this offseason, alone.

Market rate is whatever the market paid. The market had a sense that Murray's totals were a function of his line, but it misguaged how significant a factor it really was.

Having one good year doesn't mean he's better than those guys.

His contract indicates that and his performance last year showed it.

He was the reigning AP Offensive POY, the league leader in rushing and was a 27 year old FA.

He had much more than 1 good year. He had 5700 yards and 29 TDs for DAL in 4 years. His "bad" year in 2014 is still better than McFadden's best year that everyone here is going crazy for.

His misuse in PHI is not indicative of his ability. Kelly took him solely to hurt DAL and it worked in that regard. His style was perfect for this team. We just low-balled him.

Murray didn't go to the highest bidder, so it wasn't market rate.

And you are wrong about the OL. They owe as much to Murray as the other way around.

DMC's best year last season is not as good as Murray's so called bad year.

Same OL.

That train has sailed, he made his bed now him and the Eagles will lay in it. Dallas will draft a young stud along with this young line and get back to rolling. The eagles got about as much chance to trade him as they do of selling beach front property :lmao2:

Hard to say what Murray was offered, but if you want to make the case he was underpaid by the market, go ahead.

The OL doesn't owe Murray a thing. They block, he runs. If we hand him the ball enough, he gets a lot of yards.

DMC isn't Demarco Murray, but then I never said he was.
