I think this team is different than that one. This team has a lot more fight. Do you think that the 2023 Cowboys would come back from 21-0 down? Or beat the Chiefs four days later?

I'm betting a lot of us said that at the time as well like this might be the best team we had since twenty fourteen or whatever things are being said when you are in the moment it's called recency bias it's hard not to get emotional and feel like something is better even if it's not....

I gotta tell you this though we were in a better position in 2023 I mean we may have been behind the Eagles by a little bit but we were still a winning team at the time we still had a shot at the playoffs regardless but what happened is that momentum got us the division back it got us a first round buy I mean this is a different team for sure that was a better team when you look at the record..

That's why I'm trying to compare this year to 2018 it started the same way cowboys were under 500 they needed to make a trade after the trade they went on a run they got to the second round of the playoffs that's where we hope this is going because 2023 did not go the way we wanted it to go that was an embarrassing out 2018 that playoff we beat what was it the Seahawks and then we only lost by eight points on the road to the Rams did they go on to win the Super bowl or no they got to the Super bowl....

Anyway we all have a different way of looking at this all I know now is we have the lions in front of us and that's all I'm thinking about right now..

The 2023 team was largely a paper tiger. They feasted on bottom tier teams and had a losing record against teams with winning records. They were dominated by physical, running teams. Injuries and team makeup were a problem. The defense was built from before the season to play from ahead.

I totally get that, i'm just trying to give you the flip side of the coin, so to speak,

this team has not arrived yet, it's headed in the right direction, but it might be a little too little too late, we're still vulnerable in some areas especially on the back end..... We may have improved a little bit in the center of our defense, which is great, but I still have watched teams like it just two games ago the Eagles got up 21 points on us by throwing the football, And as good as we've been getting pressure ,we're still not getting to the quarterback on a regular basis, and getting those sacks we need to actually stop the play cold, because if you give any time to a player who's a pocket passer like Goff , he will find the guys, he's still they still have talent on that team regardless if they're a little wounded right now..

I know it's been different since the bye week but you're acting like the Cowboys haven't lost the teams they were supposed to beat even before the bye week I mean somehow you're trying to make this year better than it seems just because of recency bias yes it feel good to win three games in a row it's been a great last 12 games or so but that doesn't mean this team is better than 2023 I haven't seen that yet They earned that division title they took it away from the Eagles the Eagles started the season I believe undefeated10-0.. Cowboys beat them late in that year and we took the division so you could call them paper Tigers all you want It was a better team than we are right now the record said it they won the division so where it stands we may got our butts kicked in that playoff game against Green Bay it still was a better team...

But I do understand what you're saying since the bye week it looks like a more physical team they look more focused they look more hungry they look like they're playing more together from top to bottom but that does not mean they have arrived so I want to make sure you understand that...

Exactly, and, like I said, when we went up against a team that could run the ball, we got smashed. We were a team built to play with a lead. Get up early and feast. This year, we can play with a lead and we can play from behind. We are also much more physical than we were in 2023. That's massive in the playoffs. You have to be able to play from behind in the postseason. Frankly, in 2023, it was a matter of time until we got demolished. This year, we look like a team that can compete if we get in. Especially if we win the division.

The last 3 games have been a vast improvement, especially the games against the Iggs and Chiefs. But that hasn't been the team identity for the entire season and it would be foolish to say otherwise. The team was a massive dumpster fire. It's been a good 3 game stretch, but they could easily revert back to dumpster fire mode at any moment.

Oh, I understand. I don’t count this game as an absolute win. But neither do I count it as an absolute loss. For sure, they can’t make a living falling behind early.

They certainly could, but I think the last three weeks have shown a grit in the Cowboys that it's been a long time since we've had. You win a few like that, and it gives a confidence and an attitude.

It avoids the need to rely on an onsides kick which is an extremely low % play with the current rules. That’s the benefit of taking the 1.

I’d rather put it on my D to get a stop and my O to score and get a 2 to tie vs missing the 2 early and having to get an onsides.

It doesn't avoid the need for an onside kick, it just takes away any chances of even attempting one if you do need it.

The need for the 2, and for your defense to get a stop is there either way. Delaying it only increases the chance at a loss.

In either situation, a failed 2 pt attempt means you need an onside kick. Going for it earlier gives you that knowledge with more time so you can play knowing what you need.
