Twitter: Earl out here teasing us

If Seattle would take a third then I think this deal would already be done. It's my understanding they are the ones holding it up.

They want another trade partner to up the ante, but nobody has shown up.

There's no great need for them to hurry. When camp starts, it should get more interesting because it will be a daily topic and distraction at every press conference.

Do you want to play good defense against good offenses this year or not? Because it entirely depends on whether Thomas is here or not.

I find this to be an extreme and reckless position. One unsupported and unsupportable by facts.

Kris Richard is pushing hard for it.

I have seen nor heard any direct references to this being true either. If you have any direct evidence of this being true, I'd be very interested to read it?

Seattle would much rather have a 3rd or 4th in 10 months than a 3rd or 4th in 22 months. Especially with Thomas being a distraction in the meantime. Not that he wouldn't play, but the entire Seattle fan base and organization now knows how he wants out of there, and that is a cloud that hangs over a city and team.

And yet he we are on July 17th?

I understand that this is one that you're gung-ho about and I can appreciate that. But I also think that you're making quite a few assumptions here that I don't see being supported.

I agree with you that it's true that a 3rd round pick for 2019 is more valuable than a possible comp pick in 2020. The pick from the Cowboys would be guaranteed, while any comp pick would be conditional and subject to being wiped out entirely if the Seahawks were to make a big signing themselves. To say nothing of the fact that Seattle would save $8.5 million for today and the future as well, ideal for what is clearly a rebuilding team.

I'm not sure exactly where the roadblock is - or if there is more than one.

As much as Seattle might be holding it up, Thomas' own contract demands could be keeping it from happening as well. I wouldn't want to see the Cowboys approaching this with a blank check.

Earl Thomas is Sean Lee 10 yards deeper. There isn't a safety on this team that can read offenses like Thomas, who could get guys in position like Lee does up front.

Richard and Thomas have been together a long time. They communicate almost every day. I'm not comfortable telling you why I know this; you're going to have to trust me.

This season entirely depends on running the ball better than anybody and playing much better defense. If LVE can play, I do think the front 7 has improved nicely. I like the secondary, too, but it DESPERATELY needs a general back there right now. They are way too green without one.

Sports report on CBS Sports Radio mentioned Earl Thomas using Instagram to get either an extension or trade from Seahawks.

I gladly concede that he would be an asset. A coach on the field who knows Richard's defense nearly as well as the coach himself. But that doesn't make him worth $13 million a year and a 3rd round pick more than Xavier Woods.

You'll have to forgive my skepticism.

I agree with the overall sentiment, Thomas would help quite a bit. But what I do not agree with is any talk of a "pay whatever", "acquire at all costs" mindset. There have to be limits.

I think it happens soon. They’re not extending him and he knows it. This was to facilitate a trade asap

I know most outside observers are certain that Seattle won't be good this year, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to want to move ET. I don't understand it given their other off-season moves. Nevertheless, that's where it stands.

I think one thing being overlooked is Earl's impact on Seatlle's own picks. We all saw last season what one win can do to a team's draft position (Still bitter over Week 17 win over Phi). Whether Seattle admits it or calls it "retooling" or "rebuilding", it's in their best interest to improve their own 2019 draft stock. Earl can be the difference between a pick in the mid teens or a top 10. That, in my opinion, is more impactful than quibbling over 2019.2020 3rd/4th.

I don't agree with much of anything the Seahawks are doing or saying lately. Everything looks to be wrong. Trades, draft, free agency, coaching. They've only gotten worse.

Richard Sherman recently made similar comments and I agree with him. They managed to screw up a potential dynasty and I think their time is running out.

That's another good point.

I hear you, but I will say they've earned a little latitude. I remember thinking the same thing during the 2012 off-season when they drafted Bruce Irvin in the first round and thinking they had no clue. Turns out they knew a little bit.

I'm writing them off.

Not only did they lose a bunch of players, they didn't Little in free agency and got significantly worse in their coaching ranks. Meanwhile, two other teams in their own division are ascending.

The wheels are falling off in Seattle and their run is over.

I honestly dont believe he thinks he will wear a seahawks uniform this season and at this point just wants to be somewhere different.

Does ETs contract stipulate he has final say in a trade?

I'm just wondering if the Seahawks have the authority to trade him to a team of their choosing. If not, Dallas has all the leverage here.
