Wolverine, you just can't talk about BP and completely dismiss what he did before he was with the Cowboys.

I mean, do we dismiss what Bledsoe did before he became a Cowboy? Nope. Key? Glenn? Glover? Rivera? What somebody is right now is a combination of their entire life until now. Not what has happened in the last 3 years.

Do you fools even realize how long Cowher has been with his team?

OMG.

Let BP coach one team and build it in his preference for 15 years.

It kills me how fickle this board is on everything.

Pitt would have 8-9 superbowls by now if Tuna coached them the past decade, including a W over the 'boys.

Disagree. If Parcells was coaching the Steelers, he'd still have Bradshaw at QB and Jack Lambert in at LB.

Pure genius Wolverine.

Even if Parcells was the Football Hand of God and got the Cowboys to the NFC championship all 3 years he was here (completely ignoring the pile of crap he inherited), the score would be:

Cowher 8 division Championships with the Steelers
Parcells 3 division Championships with the Cowboys.

Cowher 5 Championship games with the Steelers.
Parcells 3 Championship games with the Cowboys.

Clearly, by whatever metric you could possibly measure it by, Cowher is the superior coach.

Nice analysis, Norman Einstein.

:spanking: ouch.......

What do yuo not get about these numbers:

Parcells: 3 SB appearences, 2 SB wins

Cowher: 1 SB appearence, no SB wins, 3 title game losses at home

Parcells was, is, and always will be the better coach.

Switzer: 1 SB appearance, 1 SB win. According to your arguement that makes Switzer better than Cowher. You can't simply take one factor into account and say that coach is better than another because of it. If you are arguing from a historical standpoint then you have a valid arguement because Parcells is the better coach. If you are arguing who is better right now you don't.

I'm not jumping on the knee jerk bus here and saying I'd take Cowher over Parcells, I'm willing to give Parcells a 4th year to see what he can do. Something has to be said though for Cowher, he has had his team in the playoffs 10 of his 14 years including his first 6 as a head coach. Parcells on the other hand has been a head coach for 18 years and has only produced 9 playoff teams.

Cowher took over a good Pittsburgh team from Noll. Parcells turned around four really bad teams.

I have always liked Cowher and nothing against BP, but Cowher has done a great job with management that continually lets their top FA's go.

I just think he is a great coach - I have for a long time. There are things about BP that bug me and I can't say that about Cowher - although I don't know as much about him as I do BP so that is probably not fair.

It is a close call and I am not fickle because I wanted BP to stay and I would not want a coaching change at this time, but over the long haul I would take Cowher.

I am back.
Right now. 2006. I would rather have Cowher.
He has more enery and emotion and his teams consistently compete.
True he hasn't one the big one but Parcells has lost a step.

Simple question...

If Cowher were the Dallas Cowboys head coach for 14 years and only once had them in the superbowl and NEVER won a Super Bowl... would you fire him? Would you allow him to last 14 years with making it to the playoffs almost every year but only once making it past the Conference Championship?

And you don't think for a second that Cowher hasn't had to remake that team? He certainly don't have the same roster of players now as when he took over from Noll. He has proven he can build a team himself and make it a winner. Cowher has only failed to make the playoffs once in the last 5 seasons and has his team 1 game away from a superbowl for a second consecutive season. In Parcells last 10 years of coaching (4 in New England, 3in New York & 3 in Dallas) Parcells has only produced 3 playoff wins compared to 4 playoff losses.

Like I said in my earlier post, I'm not saying I'd take Cowher over Parcells, but the gap between these coaches is nowhere near as far apart as some are making it out to be. Just like players usually have a set amount of time to show teams they can be an asset to that team so to do coaches and I think after next season BP will have had enough time to show whether he is truly a great coach or simply one living on past glory.

The fact that Cowher always has his team in the playoffs and a Super Bowl contender is good nuff for me.

Parcells 3 years 1 playoff game. That is 33%

I am pretty sure that Cowhers Steelers have a much higher percent for the playoffs then what Parcells has given the Cowboys.

Fact..Cowher is a better coach NOW then Parcells is.

only satisfied with playoff victories

sorry, I want a ring, I'll take Parcells instead of the choke-artist

btw, what is the point of this poll?

we've never been in the position to hire Cowher, and we'll never be in that position, esp. when Bill is only going to be here for 5 years
