I very much hope he’s wrong about that.

But even if it was just a second round pick, it still makes the Jones boys look like idiots.

Give away Amari Cooper for nothing and then invest another premium pick on yet another big-money receiver to fill the void that THEY CREATED.

They don't look like idiots to me. They added the defensive tackle that they needed and it only cost them a 6th round pick. They have the Cowboys at the top of the NFC and they should be even better or just as good next year. They built a good team. I don't understand your way of thinking. The team is good and has a good shot of getting better as the season goes on.

It likely takes a first to make the Texans open to taking on a good amount of his salary. In order to make the Texans ok with that you likely had to over pay them. Claypool went for a 2nd.

So if you offer a 2nd for cooks the only way that deal gets done is if cooks waives or alters his guarantee money, the cowboys are ok paying him $18m or the Texans eat some of that deal- which was never happening for a “fair value deal” to get them to take money we needed to over pay.

People keep comparing this to the cooper deal (which I was against) the difference is Jerry and Stephen got personal in the amari deal. They wanted him gone. They didn’t want him representing the cowboys any longer or on the team. Stubborn? Yes. Petty? Absolutely.

Just the fact that they tried makes them look bad.
The fact that they are good makes people that are critical look bad. Didn't you think that the team wouldn't be good this year and that they had no chance when they lost the first game and lost Dak and had Rush as the backup qb? Now they sit at 4th in the power rankings, lead the league in sacks, and the 49 points they scored last week is the most by any NFL team.

Then maybe you should look at where the team is and where they are going. All of those good young players that they have don't grow on trees. They certainly should be one of the top teams in the league going forward.

That doesn’t mean that the Cooper deal wasn’t a mistake. The team is having success DESPITE that decision, not BECAUSE of it.

My fandom doesn’t blind me to their mistakes.

I can be happy at 6-2. That doesn’t mean I have to think that everything is perfect. It’s not. If Cooper were still here, there’s a good chance that Dallas is 8-0 with a more potent offense. How would THAT look?

We’ll cross that bridge when (or if) we come to it won’t we?

I’ve heard this story for over 25 years now. I’m not getting suckered again.

I generally agree, but their trade compensation they wanted was for Houston to eat his salary, making him way cheaper than Cooper the next two years

A good point. But it’s also a second round pick that could give you a good young player at a four year bargain.

None of it looks good when you only got a fifth rounder for Cooper and you’re now scrambling to replace him.

The Amari Cooper trade situation was made personal,.. not business, imo.

- Maybe it was something about his persona did not mince well with management, and perhaps even some coaching staff.
Remember the incident where Cooper (and Randall Cobb) were both
on the sideline during a critical Philly win or go home finale ?

- The non-vaccine missed games also likely played a factor as well as both Jerry and Michael Irvin voiced their disappointment about that.
My biggest gripe on Amari is he does not show up against the better coverage CBs in the NFL when he needed to. (and same watch dog eye on Lamb on that as well)

" Availability " ?
Amari really did not miss many games. Maybe practice was another matter, but he grunted it out on game day time.
i still some personal issues between the two parties factor in basically getting nuthin for Cooper - a far cry than what we gave up for him from the Radas trade.

And that is what is sad. Unless the other players hated him or something. yes he was always nicked up but he always tried to play even when he should have sat, but were always told that is what coaches want them to do, gut it out. I mean look at Randy, nothing but personal issues and health issues his entire career but they tried to keep him. Just sad because i know this team is better with him than without even if he's nothing more than a decoy so the others can get 1 on 1 looks.

As far as not showing up vs better CB's. That is partly on the OC and QB. Dak isn't going to force things into double coverage much, that's partly why his INT's are so low and the coaches don't always do a good job of moving players around to create those 1 on 1 matchups. he was just one of those guys who could go off at any moment and give them some juice at times.

Lol, watch and enjoy the ride. I don't see how anybody could not enjoy this season. This team is really good. Worst scenario is 12 or 13 wins and they could possibly win more than that and advance in the playoffs.

6 and 2 looks good and they didn't want Cooper anymore.

How would you know that Cooper was a mistake? You are talking about a guy that would refuse to practice and wouldn't give 100 percent in playoff games.

no the bad deal for cooper was a result of ownership making it personal. The cooper deal was always bad - it didn’t make the team better off a 12-5 year. They should have built off that. The fact it was a 5 th rounder was even more ridiculous

No, you’re talking about that. Saying things that aren’t true so you can feel better about a player no longer here.

Always great wearing a star, never as good without it.

I agree it was always a bad deal. I was trying to say that the trade being for personal reasons shouldn't let them off the hook.
