I can tell you the reason the running game has been working with Rush is that he can take a snap from under center. Dak is horrible at that…..
How many times has Rush taken a snap under Center?

Looks like he has been in shotgun mode just as much as Dak has.

Rush is willing to do so, plus he doesn't check out of the run as often as Dak did. Multiple people around the team confirmed that this year.

This is literally the only way you can win with a QB like Dak. Look at what the Ravens did with Dilfer. That is what you need for Dak. Dak is incapable of carrying this offense in any meaningful way you would expect. We can dispel with this notion that he is somehow on par with Mahomes, Burrow or Allen and actually recongize what we have, a below average QB who should not be expected to be leaned on when the need arises.

I actually have no problem with your take. We all know Dak isn't elite but I'm confused by one of your statements. You said Dak is below average, correct? I have two quick questions, hopefully you can bring some clarity to me.

1. How does a below average quarterback maintain a top 10 position his whole career, become All Pro and an MVP candidate in the NFL?

2. If it's so easy for below average quarterbacks to consistently be in the top 10 for multiple seasons, become All Pro and MVP candidates, who are the other below average quarterbacks to have done these things?

Please give us some of the names of other below average quarterbacks who have done the things previously listed, since it's apparently easy to accomplish.

I'll patiently wait.....

That's the tough thing to swallow. If you're highest paid at your position, you need to be "that guy" every week, every game.

There are "highest paid" players at each position in the NFL that aren't the best at their particular positions. People act like they've never seen this happen before.

If you look at the top 10 highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. They're all not the top 10 BEST quarterbacks in the NFL. It's called "that's what the market dictates".

1. Dak Prescott has largely lived the charmed existence of playing in one of if not the worst division in football. Much of his vaunted stats people tout to list him that high in QB rankings is based on lot of these empty stats amassed by beating up on weak competition. His weaknesses are amplified anytime he is expected to step up and do more, a lot like Dilfer. The fact that he is ranked the way he is only serves to highlight the dearth of above average qbs in the league.

2. Most recently I’d say 2022 runner up Jalen Hurts. Same as Dak but blessed with a team that isn’t run by a complete ******. Much of mvp related stuff is based on pure stats, enjoy a season where you get a lot of minnows on your schedule and put together a nice run. You saw that with Hurts and you saw that with Dak.

First of all, I respect the hell out of you for breaking down your opinion of a below average quarterback. We may have to agree to disagree, but i truly respect intelligent dialog.

With that said, Dak and Hurts aren't the only quarterbacks to have played against what you consider "weak competition". There are other quarterbacks who've have played in the same division as Dak and Hurts and played against the same teams that Dallas and Philly has.... if it were that easy, then you would see "below average" quarterbacks be top 10, All Pro and MVP candidates all the time, correct?

But that isn't the case.

Stupid premise, Ed.

Of course Mike is capable of doing that. The question is, would Jerry and Dak stand for that? The answer is obviously no. Dak has tremendous latitude and influence here as the Franchise QB and Jerry Favorite. They're the ones determining this, not the head coach.
The real question is can Jerry build that team.

Can he build a team that Dak only has to throw the ball 25 times a game for 225 yards, like they did for Troy?

I don't believe he can.

The offense has been dumbed down for Dak practically every year. It's WAY past time for the highest paid player in the history to step up. We already know a dominant OL and running game is the answer. Yet, sadly, Jerry doesn't seem to prioritize that.
Paying Dak $60 mill a year was ridiculous, but in Dak's defense I will say that the last two seasons the Cowboys had the #1 ranked offense in the NFL and Dak did lead the NFL in TD passes.

Again, not defending Dak here, just saying that when we did have a really good oline and a good RB (like Pollard), Dak did produce and put up MVP type numbers.

Dak is nowhere near worth $60 a year, but you dont lead the NFL in TD passes if you are scrub either.

Dak is not really good, nor is he really bad, as with most things in life the truth lies in the middle. If you give Dak a good oline and a good RB, he can put up MVP type numbers. If his oline is bad and you give him trash RBs, then the results are not going to look very good. He has to have good surrounding talent to produce, he cant carry a team by himself. This is something the Cowboys should have already known by year 9.

Reduce Daks role or get more weapons around him? See it’s how the author writes the story. Ed not known for his brains.

Good read.

However, Cap Boy will never pay the resources needed to surround Dak with the proper offensive talent.

McCarthy claimed to be committing to the run heading into the offseason and Jerry backed him up by letting Pollard walk, signing Zeke, and not drafting a single running back.

And he wants no parts of it at all because he needs to see the defense still to be successful in year 10 lol
