It's stuff like this that makes me wish we would have just drafted Randy Moss over Greg Ellis, take some of the drama that came with Randy Moss and be over with it.

I find Greg Ellis to be a fraud. His gripes against the team in recent years were solely due to money and the fact that Dallas signed him to a fair deal but then Ellis later regretted because Jevon Kearse and Grant Wistrom got monster deals that they simply weren't worth and Ellis felt he should've been overpaid as well. That's all that crap was, but Ellis posed it off like he was the good guy, hard working veteran that just wanted to win.

People talk about Owens being a problem, but I honestly believe this team has more of a chance of going into the postseason and doing something with Ellis being gone than Owens being gone. Teammates in general seemed to love Owens, teammates in general seemed to roll their eyes when they heard Ellis griping. And Owens had been part of teams that had postseason success, Ellis has never won a postseason game. Not to say it's all their credit of fault, but to me it sort of gives you an idea that one player...regardless if you like him or not is a 'winner' and the other whether you like him or not is a 'loser.' I was seriously bummed out by Owens being released, but I feel better now that Ellis has been released because Owens' complaints (if he really had any) were kept private unlike Ellis' complaints. So kicking out one guy while keeping another guy for acting worse would have sent the wrong message. At least the right message had been sent.

The thing about Ware is that he played a great majority of the snaps, particularly on 3rd down. And he's a guy that is beloved by his teammates, coaches, and front office execs BECAUSE OF HIS ATTITUDE. It also helps he's a phenomenal player. Greg Ellis is just a coward and a 'you know what' stirrer and I would like to see Colombo or Flozell put him on his arse.

Perfect explanation of why this team goes el foldo every December. Greg Ellis was loved and respected. Greg Ellis was a team leader who the D looked up to.

With the help of Pro Football Focus' play-by-play participation charts (which aren't 100 percent accurate and include some non-official plays, but are a good starting point), I think I've identified the 29 plays Ware missed last season. Other than a few last-play-of-the-game plays, I've confirmed most of them by looking at my game tapes.

Ware missed one play when he was shaken up in the first Commanders game (checked for concussion), three plays when he was shaken up against the Giants (stinger) and the last 13 defensive plays after hurting his knee against Seattle. That leaves 12 plays when he could have been on the field but was not. They are --

One play in Game 2 against Philadelphia -- With 3:39 left in the second quarter, Ware was replaced by Burnett in the dime defense. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field.

Five plays in Game 3 against Green Bay -- With a 27-9 lead and 3:43 left in the game, Ware was replaced by Hatcher for four plays in the dime defense. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field. On the last play of the game, Ware was replaced by Hatcher. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field.

One play in Game 5 against Cincinnati -- On the last play of the game, Ware was replaced by Spencer. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field.

Two plays in Game 11 against San Francisco -- On the third and fourth plays of the game, Ware was replaced by Spencer. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field.

Three plays in Game 14 against New York -- With 7:50 left in the third quarter, Ware came out for two plays and was replaced by Ellis on second and third downs. When the next possession started, they both were on the field. And on the last play of the game, Ware was replaced by Spencer. Ellis was already on the field and stayed on the field.

So when, exactly, could Ware possibly have been "hiding" from the coaches in order to get Ellis playing time?

Ellis must have meant preseason.:laugh2:

Page 4 and you guys still dont know why?

They said the reason why is because Ellis was such a leader and the guys wanted him on the field.

They were all looking for Ellis's leadership but Ellis said he felt like he couldn't be a Leader to his full extent because he wasn't getting as many snaps.

No matter how much you guys hate Ellis the guys on our team loved him and cared about him a lot.

Ware only did this out of respect towards Greg because he, and others felt like Greg deserved to be on the field more than he was.

He was a leader on this team and a heck of a Cowboy while he was here.

Did you happen to miss the post above yours? Ellis is a headcase and was making this crap up.. there's solid proof right there.

I can't believe how many people on here just hate the guy.

Albeit he did cry over his contract but its not like he didn't give this team his all.

The players knew it too. Thats why they have so much respect for Greg.

And word on the street is he did a lot of things for charity while he was here too.

But Cowboy fan absolutely hates him.

It may have only been an instance.

I doubt very seriously he was wasn't telling the truth.

Demarcus Ware doesn't need to take shelter for an entire quarter to get his point across.

How is griping about his contract and griping about playing time that much different from Owens griping about not getting the ball?

He did virtually everything that Owens was accused of except Owens did not want out of Dallas.

To me you have to treat Ellis just like you did Owens.

No disrespect to Ellis, unlike many here I like him a great deal and thought he was a valuable part of this defense for many years. But any down in which Ware was not on the field was a missed opportunity. If it were me, he's simply an every down player.

The idea that he hid so Ellis could get more playing time is quite ridiculous.

Owens was disrputive during the season and Ellis leading up to camp. Off season is the time if you have complaints to says something.

I like Greg Ellis. I actually sided with him in some of his labor disputes because he made valid points.

However, if he's priding himself on his leadership, it's fair to point out that, under his guidance and direction, the Cowboys have seen a decade of December swoons.

I just listened to that. And it such whiney bs.

Basically Ellis' point is that if he was on the field, we would have never lost a game and would have won many Super Bowls.

What bull.

Of course, he was on the field for years and that was not the case.

So for him to blame it all on him not being on the field goes to show just how detached from reality he is.

Moreover, I am seriously disputing how much of a valuable locker room leader he is when he sounds like he was creating an Us v. Them mentality between the players and the coaches.

I love me some TO but TO picked the worst times to file his complaints.

Ellis took care of his business in the offseason for almost all of his "instances".

I think of Ellis almost like I think of TO.

He may whine about the lack of opportunities, and may be a headache when someone puts a microphone in front of him, but he isn't a liar.

I believe him that this happened on at least one instance (maybe just one play). It sounds like he is pointing at the week 8 Giants game as the game that it went down like that. Maybe he is suggesting that Ware may have sat out with his "stinger" longer than was necessary.

He also recounts a conversation with Ware in which Ware tries to get him into the game and Ellis refusing, telling Demarcus to not mess around with the coaching decisions with his contract coming up.

I don't see Ellis as a guy who just makes up stories out of thin air. Exaggerate maybe. But I don't doubt conversation like that happened. Especially given what we know about Ware. I can't believe that I am the only one who can see him doing something like this?

If you recall, when Ellis was drafted, his college coach said he was such a character guy that the college coach would trust Ellis to baby sit his kids.

Maybe the real meaning was that Ellis was so paranoid he would have the police at the coach's house all night that the coach wouldn't need to worry about anything negative happening.

Ellis was a good player. Steady, consistent. But not a great player.

Guys like that who have egos will never get the dollars they think they deserve.

However, hang twenty sacks in a year Greggo and watch how Jerry would have paid you a King's Ransom.

Great post. I thought that whole interview was completly self centered when asked what was wrong with the team. His answers were all about him and if he was on the field none of this would have happened. I knew Ellis whined but this interview just sealed it for anyone that was just in denial about it.
