I heard the audio quote on ESPN radio. Emmitt's statement was confusing to me. At one point it sounded like Emmitt was saying that Vick was being used to catch the kingpins of the dog fighting world. At another point, it sounded like Emmitt was saying that Vick was, well, "the biggest fish in the whole doggone pond."
In any event, Emmitt observation makes sense - prosecutors certainly could be pressuring Vick to reveal the identities of (and perhaps testify against) the major dogfighting figures (while at the same time making an example out of Vick).
Vick's involvement was stupid. He should not play this year, because the distraction he became involved in is detrimental to his teammates this year. (And potentially financially damaging to the NFL if mishandled)
You're about the only person in this thread who got it right. Emmitt's pointing out that even though Vick may have some guilt, he is a focused target because of his celebrity. The lawyers who are involved are all going to benefit from these events. I think it's more of a prosecution tactic to get Vick to reveal other sources, that may play in down the line. Emmitt has an opinion, and a new angle that most other newspeople have not addressed. It's fine, it's just an opinion.
Vick is not guilty right now, but as of this week, there is enough evidence to prosecute!!! (Hence the indictment!)
That's why all this talk of suspension and the like is now set into motion.
