The problem is that YOU want it done now. Jerry is in a pissing contest with Houston and Denver. Jerry has the right to say forget it, Romo stays

not only that, the value of romo goes down if he does not work out with the team.
houston knows that.
they need him sooner than later, and before training camp...

You keep him past June 1st you don't get to split the hit.

I won't mention the incredible damage that comes when he is still around, not allowed to compete for the job.

I can't think of a time in NFL history where a team held on to any player, much less your former franchise quarterback, throughout the duration of the offseason solely to get a trade with zero intention on keeping him.

Yes you're screwing over Romo, that's not even the biggest part of the equation...you are sending a clear message to the rest of the players around the league and in your locker room how we do business. We hold players against their will that have no value hoping harm on another teams player so we can work out a deal.

I never said they should release him or even do so now. I have always thought they would release him, but I agree, I see no reason to release him right now. I would hold on to Romo through the draft at the very least. Maybe a team gets desperate or loses their QB dream guy in the draft to another team.

Since there is no cap advantage at all by releasing him before June 1st, there's no reason to release him until then. If they release him now but designate him a June 1st release, his cap hit doesn't change until then, so if it were me, I'd keep him on the roster until then, if for no other reason, some team gets desperate or antsy for whatever reason.

yep, it is really the personal relationship that could override this.
houston announcing the trade was just strange.

We're not holding on to him for a few months. He will be home by the end of March.
Why do you believe this?

I think the Texans' interest adds a new wrinkle to this situation.

That's a little too close to home for the Jones family.

Meanwhile, Houston had to reduce its offensive playbook to one page.

Teams don't want to "over pay" for Romo yet Mike Glennon is now making 15 mil a year....

But Jones WILL NOT screw Romo. If that is not clear to you, I don't know what to tell you.

It is almost you think someone else is in control in this situation.

Broncos and/or Texans are panicking ~ hence they feed the Schefter's and Rapoport's of the NFL media world a bunch of denials and non-interest.
Impatience front offices, coaches on the hot seat, and/or GM's who believe they can get a quality year or two out of Romo, will privately seek trade offers.
Hold on to Romo as long as you can, Jerry.

Make Glennon a lot older and ruin his back and know he can play one or two years tops. Then it is on the same level of thought.

The thing is Romo only wants to play for the Texans or Broncos. And those are the teams that don't want to trade for him. I bet we already had picks handed over to us from other teams but Romo said no.
And I also believe that the Texans and the Broncos know about this fact that Romo is not willing to accept a trade to any other team.

That's correct.

He biggest problem is Romo is dictating the terms.

It's humanly decent of our FO to allow this, but pretty business stupid.

Personally I'm torn and why I wouldn't be a successful GM.

Jerry has ruined this franchise in a plethora of ways, but I still REFUSE to believe he is dumb enough to hand over Romo on a silver platter to his in-state "rival" without any compensation.

I REFUSE to live in a world where Sam Bradford can garner a 1st rd pick but we can't even get a mid-rd pick for Romo.

Either the league is colluding against us or we have the worst negotiators in the world.

I never once another team would be dumb enough to trade for that contract. Don't blame Jerry, he simply has zero leverage

His contract is not as prohibitive as many seem to believe @Teague31. He would be owed $14mil guaranteed in 2017 and the final two years (2018 $19.5mil and 2019 $20.5mil) would be team option years where they can release him with no ramifications since the money isn't guaranteed. I know others have discussed this matter just pointing it out.

As I've said ad nauseum, teams won't trade for him since he only will play for certain teams which eliminates bad teams. The teams he wants to play for would be in win now mode and would not want to give up assets needed to go with Romo to win the Super Bowl. Also, Dallas has a 24mil cap number on their backup QB, what GM in their right mind wouldn't just wait for his release. No backup will be carried at that number no matter what HOFer Jerry Jones thinks.

I swear, some fans adore Tony Romo so much they check their brains at the door and refuse to acknowledge reality or what would strictly be common sense from someone not as emotionally committed.

That's okay, then they have a lot in common with our owner/GM who has totally botched the entire process.

Not true or Romo would already be in Houston

This is being handled all wrong. Give Romo the right to negotiate with a team he wants to go including compensation and renegotiated contract. If he can't come back with some sort of compensation package we will trade him to the highest bidder. That is about as gentlemanly as i would get.

I'm just ranting. It's nothing you said. It's just bizarre to me how many people think we should just hold him until July or August betting on another teams starting quarterback to go down.
