Is the contract really that bad? They can cut him after '17 with no dead money. Seems like Texans want to do something asap before Clowney hits the market.

If your Houston, it's great! You save 16 million in cash, you save 10 million in cap, you lose a 2nd and 6th round pick but you gain a 4th.

If your Cleveland, you spent 16 million for a guy who probably won't be a very good QB for you (sound familiar?) and you gave up a 4th round pick, all for a 2nd and a 6th. They have to have some kinda plan that I'm just not seeing cause the one I'm seeing.... It sucks!

Yea, the more I think about the more weird that trade looks.............

I guess Cleveland just did Houston a solid because they just really like them.......just weird:huh:

Not surprising. I was shocked that there was any trade talk. No team is giving up much for an aging injury plagued QB that everyone knows is going to be released.

How hard would it be to trade him for a 3rd round pick this year and a conditional 2018 3rd if he plays in 10 games, which becomes a 2018 2nd if he leads the team to a playoff appearance, which becomes a 2018 1st if he leads the team to a super bowl appearance?

Seems reasonable to me.

Cleveland is thinking they are going to suck with him or without him, so might as well try to parlay the inevitable into a draft pick. Like I said, Texans/Browns could have cut him after next year with nothing on the books so IMO this trade was more than about unloading a contract. This trade shows the Texans were not willing to sacrifice another year. Their defense is ready to win now and Clowney is a FA in '18. They definitely want Romo.

Listening to Jerry the biggest liar in history? hahaha, that's funny. I would not listen to anything the media has to say about Jones unless it's confirmed.

Wow some you guys are something else.

Why the hell is there a rush to get this done?

You're letting the media whip you into a frenzy.

There could be another Teddy Bridgewater situation in the next few months. Just RELAX.
Im not sure, but when was the last time there was a Bridgewater situation and a team with no backup and so desperate with new stadium and all like Minny was?

15 years?
20?

I have already expressed my disgust with the most inept GM in the sport, way over it.

It is already clear and very apparent this whole scenario has been fumbled and mishandled.

Just ready for this team to move on.

The last 48 hours has been grueling and it will be worse the longer it draws out with people thinking that eventually these other teams supposedly interested will change their minds.

Yeah I couldn't possibly hate Jerry any more than I already did but I have developed a new found hate for Romo. To see him put before the team infuriates me.

This offseason has been completely botched by an inept front office. There's no other way to say it.

If that's the case, I think you could have done it a bit better, actually gained a player that might help you and not spent 16 million. If Cleveland is thinking at all, they are not moving the needle much IMO.

You likely wouldn't be trading for Romo's current contract. You likely could negotiate a restructure. Tennessee did that when they initiated a trade with the Eagles last year.

Regardless when Mike Glennon gets $15MM a year, Romo's $14MM ain't so bad.
Unless he plays 1-2 games and is done.
People have that fear and for good reason

So you hate Romo for getting injured and told he can't compete for his job.
Thats all his fault.
He did tell Jerry no rush to release him this week.
Thats his fault too, I guess.

They have 100 mil in space that will not spend totally.
So they bought a 2nd round pick with a fraction of it.

I wasn't asking for your approval.

I hate Romo for thinking he can pick and choose where he wants to play. He's under contract. Bleep him.

The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to find a trade partner for veteran quarterback Tony Romo, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Possible interested teams in Romo appear unwilling to take on the 36-year-old's contract or overpay for a quarterback who has started four games during the past two seasons because of injuries, sources told Schefter.

Sources also told Schefter that the Cowboys are unwilling to trade Romo to a city in which he does not want to play. Teams interested in Romo believe the Cowboys will eventually release the four-time Pro Bowler, and are willing to wait until that happens before pursuing him as a free agent, sources said.

I get it but still, that's a lot of money to pay for a 2nd round pick. I feel like they could have done the same thing and at least acquired a player that could end up contributing.

Think about it, a team with the history of Cleveland and QBs. How bad must it look to their fan base that they made this deal? IDK.

I've come over to the side that says hold him until the contract is guaranteed and cut him just before. Do-right philosophy sounds great, we can all dream it makes prospects' hearts' throb at the idea of being here. It's all business and all money. If their hearts' throb it's because they know they're coming into a situation where they have advantage on a corny FO ideal.

I don't care if Romo never speaks to a Cowboy exec again. If the teams that "want" him can't part with picks then their seasons can die on the vine for all I care.

He will eventually be released or retire. No one wants to give up anything for him, nor pay him much.

Not true at all. They just don't want a contract with these terms:
14/19/20 mil for next 3 yrs
And
draft picks

Houston or Denver might change their mind and belly up...or Romo will sign in free agency. No way he retires.

Denver already declared they want him...but will pay a more modest base salary w/lots of incentives for playing time and performance.

I agree 100%. It's like this is their first time in doing this. They are just awful!

I think Fuzzy is right. I think Romo's agent is colluding with the Broncos so they don't give up any resources. I hope I'm wrong, but something seems funny style about this situation.
