ESPN: Cowboys not expected to trade QB Tony Romo

I wasn't asking for your approval.

I hate Romo for thinking he can pick and choose where he wants to play. He's under contract. Bleep him.
Hes under contract to play for the Dallas Cowboys

Part of all this stress around here are people with different ideas on how many teams want a 37 year old, 3 year 54 mil, QB who has missed nearly the last two seasons with various injuries.

I think the market is slim.

I also think ALL players--but especially ones who have played so long and injured so badly--can always call it day if they are forced to play somewhere that will get them killed as badly or worse.
Hes done his time and had a right to say no

Im not sure, but when was the last time there was a Bridgewater situation and a team with no backup and so desperate with new stadium and all like Minny was?

15 years?
20?
JC, that's a good point. That was a very unique situation. Maybe a little more time will show these teams how dire their QB situation is currently.

At the end of the day, you cannot give this guy away for free. This is asinine that we're even debating this. Especially with how weak the QB position is currently in the league. This would set a bad precedent IMO for future trades involving this front office.

Jerry has ruined this franchise in a plethora of ways, but I still REFUSE to believe he is dumb enough to hand over Romo on a silver platter to his in-state "rival" without any compensation.

I REFUSE to live in a world where Sam Bradford can garner a 1st rd pick but we can't even get a mid-rd pick for Romo.

Either the league is colluding against us or we have the worst negotiators in the world.

The thing that stops teams from trading for Romo is his age and prior injuries. We may get something if we wait well into the season, but we're going to have to hold on to Romo for a while before we get a team to bite.

If your Houston, it's great! You save 16 million in cash, you save 10 million in cap, you lose a 2nd and 6th round pick but you gain a 4th.

If your Cleveland, you spent 16 million for a guy who probably won't be a very good QB for you (sound familiar?) and you gave up a 4th round pick, all for a 2nd and a 6th. They have to have some kinda plan that I'm just not seeing cause the one I'm seeing.... It sucks!

haha, yeah I'm sure they're really rejoicing out there in Houston.

The fact that you're saying 16m is some kind of difficult pill for a team that was over 100m under the cap and now has 11 picks in the next two drafts doesn't really make much sense.

Til something actually happens, I'll believe none of this. How many more times they gonna flip flop with the "Romo getting Released". "Romo getting traded", "Romo getting released" reports garbage? Til one of them is eventually right?

He hasnt "done his time" because he us still under contract. That is part of his obligation that he is being paid for and signed on for

Since there isnt much of a market, I've been saying that he is very valuable to us so let's keep him as back up

Problem solved

We just don't do trades at all.

And we haven't been able to do many without Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells helping Jones by brokering them.

Otherwise you get laughably one-sided trades like Joey Galloway, James McKnight and Roy Williams.

It truly is mind boggling that any GM worth his salt could rip him off ten times over and not even break a sweat.

I am curious why more don't take advantage of him. Maybe they feel sorry for him or fear his wrath since he carries a lot of clout as an owner.

Hall of Fame though. Gold jacket.

At this pointo I keep him and just cut him after the draft. It is clear we don't need the space to sign anyone, so just say WTH, and do a wait and see.

I think Fuzzy is right. I think Romo's agent is colluding with the Broncos so they don't give up any resources. I hope I'm wrong, but something seems funny style about this situation.

I really doubt Romo and his agent are worried about the Broncos having to send, say, a 3rd round pick to Dallas.

I'd also like to think Romo would be above something like that.

And if they are pulling a stunt like that, then screw Romo. Hold onto him for as long as you want. The Cowboys don't owe him anything but what he's owed on his contract.

Of course. It has to be something nefarious.

Can't be our dunce GM who has proven time and again he couldn't pull off a trade to save his life.

Or our saintly QB.

Must be his evil lawyer agent in collusion with the Broncos. Has to be.

There is definitely some disinformation being bandied about in the media about what the Cowboys will do with Romo. If the plan was to release him then Jerry would go ahead and do so because he understand there is no way he will ever get a trade offer as long as the rumors persist of his imminent release. I believe Jerry intends to trade Romo but the erroneous rumors of Romo's release prevented serious offers from being made. So now we wait. Jerry needs to get a handle on the rumors. If Jerry lets the rumors of Romo's release persist he'll never get a serious offer in trade. Let it be know to everyone that if there are no trade partners, Romo will be the Cowboys backup QB another season. Jerry needs to sell that message... even if it isn't true.

no team is going to trade for tony they know he will be released his time in dallas is done he no longer wants to be here and they don't want him here so just get it over with and move on

That's probably why trading has stopped.

We could've easily thrown picks at Richardson last season when we were talking about it. Jerry openly dangled our first round pick for AP in 2014.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ability to do trades was stripped from Jones after Roy Williams.
