Hold him until an ACL goes out for a team in training camp.

Not going to happen. If Jerry is willing to consider Romo's preference when it comes to a trade partner, he's not going to sandbag Tony's chances on the free agent market by holding the guy until teams have already decided on their starting QB.

At this pointo I keep him and just cut him after the draft. It is clear we don't need the space to sign anyone, so just say WTH, and do a wait and see.
Exactly the patriots didn't trade Bledsoe until April 22nd. There is a shortage of qbs in the NFL. Let the Bozos try win with what they got. Screw them, the deserve to get screwed. Just keep Tony Romo and watch the Bozos blow another season. They deserve what happens to them.

no team is going to trade for tony they know he will be released his time in dallas is done he no longer wants to be here and they don't want him here so just get it over with and move on
He shouldn't get to decide that. Romo has one healthy season since signing that contract and two seasons that he didnt play. Now we are expected to just release him when he signed a 100 mil dollar deal and we got one good season out of it.

Jerry has ruined this franchise in a plethora of ways, but I still REFUSE to believe he is dumb enough to hand over Romo on a silver platter to his in-state "rival" without any compensation.

I REFUSE to live in a world where Sam Bradford can garner a 1st rd pick but we can't even get a mid-rd pick for Romo.

Either the league is colluding against us or we have the worst negotiators in the world.
I think a little bit of both. I'm a conspiracy believer especially when it has to do with the Cowboys and I also have seen some bad negotiations when it comes to trades, i.e., Joey Galloway

Does Dallas even have the cap room to trade him? They'd have to absorb all guaranteed money this year I believe.

Jerry opened his mouth about releasing him, kind of lose your trade value at that point. I say we should just keep him as a back up insurance. Not sure if Romo would be willing but at the end of the day his agent can work with Jerry on finding a suitable trading partner.

Jerry hate in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
I'm a pretty big fan of hating on Jerry, in fact I spent most of my adult life doing it. But in this case I can't bring myself to do it. I feel it's a classy move on Jerry's part to dismiss any teams/trades that Romo doesn't want to go to. I feel Romo has earned that respect with what he's done for the franchise over the past 10 years. And last year in particular, Romo did us all a favor by being a classy guy with Dak taking over. I can't imagine how much of a mess and a pain in the butt he could have been if he would have been a distraction when he got healthy. Man it was a distraction all by itself and Romo kept silent. If Romo would have demanded his job back through the media or shot off at the mouth when he was healthy then that could have derailed the season.

So I feel since Romo was the ultimate team player last year with helping Dak, supporting Dak, keeping quiet when healthy then as a return on the favor we should only trade him to a team that he wants to play for. He didn't do anything to ruin our regular season last year so I feel grateful that Jerry isn't ruining Romo's offseason.
Just my 2 cents, but I'm proud of Jerry on this one.

Amen. It is obvious what will happen.

We just don't do trades at all.

The last time I remember a player we traded was Antonio Bryant. I think we may have traded a tight end at some point.

They traded Akin Ayodele and Anthony Fasano to the Dolphins in 2008. They traded Sean Lissemore to the Chargers for a late pick in, IIRC, 2013.

I agree. They would have been stupid not to IMO and for the life of me, I can not understand why Cleveland would do that.

Because Cleveland got a second round pick just for using 16 million of 102 million of free cap space that they were never going to be able to spend, while being locked into the need to spend to 89% of the salary cap for a five year spread. Houston screwed up in giving away prime draft capital in exchange for dumping salary. It forces them back into the free agent market, and their chances of signing someone to another poor contract is much greater than if they draft a guy.

I keep reading this, but it's not cheap if you're also giving up draft picks knowing full well Romo may not make it through a single season.

For a team trading for him, it's in effect a one year, 14 million contract, with two team options at 19 million and 20 million. No guaranteed money. For a quarterback with a pulse, you aren't going to find a better contract to take on.

He hasnt "done his time" because he us still under contract. That is part of his obligation that he is being paid for and signed on for

Since there isnt much of a market, I've been saying that he is very valuable to us so let's keep him as back up

Problem solved
He signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys. He can either except it (if he's with Dallas) or retire.
If he stays, his 2017 cap hit to Dallas is the highest in the entire league at 24 mil
His salary is "only" 14 mil, or >10x what Dak makes. That would be weird.

He did not sign on to play with Cleveland, for example. They can trade him and his contract, but if he tells Cleveland he doesnt want be there, they arent trading for a 37 year old, often injured vet who doesnt want to be there. A Jerry would never even have to try to force it...it just wouldnt happen.

Everyone sitting on their couches knows nothing. There are approximately 5-10 people in this world that know what's going on. Jerry and 3-4 GMs of NFL franchises, plus some scouts/analysts. This is way too much hoopla for a 5th round pick and a QB who I love but I'm absolutely, totally, heartbreakingly done with.

Ah yes, those trades were like mic drops that sent ripples across the league leaving GMs quaking in their boots

When you make moves so devastatingly unfair to the rest of the league, you can understand why they don't happen very often.

Maybe enough time has passed where the league wont see it coming and the Cowboys will soon be rolling in the booty claimed from the next, unsuspecting sucker
